SLAPP was the App, which was completely different, they had a really cool idea there too and unfortunately the timing didn't work out for them.

It's kind of hard to keep up with all the stuff that gets posted on here and Instagram. I've actually thought about the idea of starting a website like this, but at as a passion probject rather than a money-making venture to compete with NS which would inevitably fail, imo. Insulting this community/website is not going to help your case. Also NS isnt dead and I'm tired of hearing that. Everyone is aware that traffic dropped off after Instagram took off in regard to ski content. But this website is still the best place for random like-minded skiers to talk, argue, criticize, support each other, and give advice.

14455378:Farmville420 said:Real talk tho [tag=38820]@eheath[/tag] is there a reason that you need an NS account to post / comment. I see videos with tens of thousands of views just getting 100 or 200 thumbs up, I feel like if we had the ability to sign in with google/Facebook etc. and create accounts on the fly the user base would get way bigger. Or just post anonymously, always wondered why the account was required
14455439:eheath said:If someone doesn't want to type a username, password and email, im not sure you're gonna get them to register in any other way. Users doesn't really define the page views, we don't get "less" page views because someone can't make an account, the answer is that there is no benefit either way, NS has always been a site with accounts so thats the way it is now.
FB used to be a way to register, but it seems like that got removed.

Don't underestimate how lazy people are, no one wants to type-in 3 fields, it's much easier to get them to click on a single button.
Then once you have their contact, you can touch them again to bring them back/increase engagement, etc. so there's generally value to a one click signup flow, that's why you see it everywhere these days. But every audience is different, I'm sure if NS removed the FB button they had their reasons.
14455030:WabbleDee said:I don’t think you understand. This is a dead forum that offers no benefits to people who post in-depth content, nor is it remotely close to the type of website I described.
Writers and posters would be paid for content and it would offer a lot more all around. Let it goooo
No one accidentally finds Newschoolers when looking for ski content man. It doesn’t show up for any common or uncommon skiing questions when typed into Google. it’s an obscure forum that didn’t do enough during its prime to stay relevant.

14455456:eheath said:While I'm not involved with NS at all anymore, they have plenty of campaigns and strategies about gaining members etc getting more clicks isn't always the goal either, so I can't really speak on their current strats etc.
The way NS works now and has for awhile is that most of the core audience traffic comes from social media ref and then the money maker is the google traffic, the former likely has an account and the latter makes it like 2-3 pages in and leaves so I think NS' current system is fine.
Would ns videos/articles have a couple more comments with a one click sign up? Sure, but that low level engagement isn't generating traffic, if someone is so lazy they can't fill out 3 lines, maybe we don't want them on NS, know what im saying? If NS had an anon comment feature, we'd be deleting numerous posts a day, it would get very abused.

IDK if you're trolling at this point, but NS is literally a freestyle skiing content website lol the forums are about 5% of the page views.

evan took from the ski industry and left it with cancer.
content creators should have gotten paid from the beginning, you should have never taken a dime, you cant even ski.
you need to log off, get a job, go on a diet, get out of your moms basement, and stay out of skiing.

14456858:Christian_Bale said:Makes sense, unfortunately. It's easy to find a popular video on NS cuz it's either on the homepage or it's near the top of the video section. However, for YouTube, if you're not subscribed then u won't see the video come up in your feed. And most people on Instagram can't be bothered to click the link in bio..for example I just posted a video a few days ago and it got way more views, comments, upvotes/likes on NS than on YouTube.
