does anyone lock up their skis to the racks, just got some jp juliens and would be super pissed if someone jacked em, thinkin about gettin some kinda lock. just curious to see if you guys use em

never have used locks and probably never will.

i havent heard of anything skis or w/e getting snatched so i dont see teh point

The handy thing about skis is you have two of them. If you take on JP vs. Julien and put it on one rack, and take the other JP vs. Julien and put it on a different rack a good distance from the first rack, you greatly minimize the chances of them getting stolen.

i always lock my shit man, people are assholes unfortunately and have no respect for each other. definitely invest in at least a burton/dakine basic lock. it's small and fits in your pocket and will deter most from trying to jack your stuff.

Those Ski Key locks are good if your hill has the racks that take them. Otherwise split them up.

i remember hearing someone actually got there skis stolen a while back after having split them up. someone actually took one and then searched for the other and found it.

but really...10 bucks for a lock that will almost gurantee you have your skis after you come back to them seems like a deal to me. my hill has cameras and i always just set my skis up right next to wear a camera is pointing

When you lock your skis with that can you tighten(and lock) it down so that there is not 3ft of cable avalible, for a thief to loosen and just slide your skis out?

it tightens automatically. but yea, it's ratcheting, so you can pull it as tight as you want, then it won't slide back out

Put the cable through the brakes and then the only way to get them out is to cut the cable or take off the brakes.

same. i used to think my shit would never get stolen. now i use a lock everytime i ski, the sketchy people wearing sneakers, crappy $20 boots in one hand, $20 jackets, and jeans just sitting on the benches, watching everyone ski in and out are not good. i can't trust people like them.

i dont lock my stuff at my home mountain, but thats cuz we have our own rack and everyone knows there is a camera on it so they would be dumb to take anything, but everywhere else i go its locked

well i had a snowboard stolen once. and my friend had his skis stolen.... but i still dont lock my shit up. its a pain to get skis remounted to fit your boots so most people wont steal skis.

I really don't think a camera would help, because they could just be wearing a ski mask, bandana, etc, and take a pair of skis. They wouldn't stick out of the croud either.

I like having a mid-mountain lodge, cuz then if someone tries to jack your skis, they have to ski down the whole mountain with them, which would look hella sketchy.

i use these

i either use ski check or one of those little kryptonite locks. i would be so pissed if my skis got jacked so im going to try to not let that happen

ye ski clocks are a good idea if u think ur in a doey ski resort i tend just to split them up, my mate put his skis down while he went to get a drink out is rusac that was like 10 metes away and when he got back they were gone, it was wierd, on a small glacier and they were the only pair of nordicas there went looking but didnt even see any one skiing down to the lift on them or holding them, never saw them again

ya i will this year because i got new gear. 2 years ago, some one jacked my friends brand new seth pistols and it sucked because he used his insurance to cover it, causing his insurance bill to go up.

no its not really common, but it does happen. id rather not take a chance of someone taking my skis. if i bring one of my older pairs i dont really bother but its not a bad habit to get into, specially because then you dont have to worry about it.

a few years ago when I snowboarded I tried using a lock, I used it for like two days before I got sick of carrying it around and using it. doesn't hurt any to use it though so if you want to you might as well.

my home hill is terrible for getting your skis and boards stolen....if you dont lock them up and they look nice, they wont be there for more than 5 minutes.

locks can get picked, wires can get cut, people can search for split up skis, if they want em bad enought cuz people are cheap assholes. so your safest bet is to ski all day and you wont have to worry about getting them stolen, unless someone comes to your house/hotel then youve got a big problem. and you should think about witness protection/bodygaurd/packing heat. (notice sarcasim in last sentence.)

Yeah, but at some smaller mountains where there are fewer people and less racks, you can probably spot out a pair of skis easily.

It depends where you are. I like locking 'em up just in case, but that's just me.

yea well down in wanaka you dont lock up your house or anything but its like as you move further north it gets worse. auckland and shit are pretty bad i geuss.

ya but if you saw someone with a paper clip or wire cutters next to someones skis wouldnt you be like "um excuse me wtf are you doing?"
