Line is stupid (seriously)

Line is stupid. I bought a pair of skogens last year. They needed to be warrantied so i brought them in to the trusty old alpine shop and they were supposed to warranty them. But Line being so ill prepared suddenly ran out of skis. Thats right ran out of skis. There are no more skis in their wearhouse. Or at least thats what they told the alpine shop. So Line said i would get an in-store credit. And now im probably gonna end up with $100 for use only in the alpine shop.

Line is handmade?! Hahahaha. Yeah, right.

Lots of companies run out of stock. Volkl has sold out of the Explsoiv's and Gotama's completely, until next summer. I've heard that K2 is sold out of Maden's.

That's why you don't warranty a ski right before the season starts.

i know they used to be, but i thought they were produced with machines now

it could be a giant hit to a company as small as line to overstock, which may explain something

backorders/out of supplies happens in any business.. cmon u guys have never been to Mcdonald's and they're out of chicken sandwiches. i cant name how many times thats happened to me.

Yeah they ran out of skis because they didn't want to make too many, like someone said up there. Hell, I don't even get skis until they make more (which they are doing so hold tight), so don't think it's just you. It's actually good because that means they're selling fast and more money can go into new shit like it went into their binding project.

Hey tweaker, relax, companies do not want to sit upon a pile of old product and worry about who will buy it off of them. In your case, they forcasted how many Skogan's they would sell and they met that number. Good for them. They will help you out in whatever way they can. Don't worry and they are not stupid for selling. We are fast running out of Made'N AKs and Pistols. It happens when a product is desired.

F-that I would be pissed if they wouldn’t give me a warranty ski. You paid all that money, to get that crappy service. Ya they make forecasts on how many skis they sell, so they can make forecast on how many they will rma. They should then keep a few pairs for warranty repair, especially this early in the year.

ElGato:

Perhaps the fact that Line is run by a 34 year old with no business experience and is a small, immature company provides some insight as to why they may not have waranteed skis readily available.

Then again, if you're willing to buy skis from a startup company perhaps you deserve it. This could happen to a larger company, but the probability is much smaller.

This is why corporations rule. There a thousand other reasons why they DO NOT rule. But keep in mind: there is a reason why huge ski companies dominate the market.

what we all should learn from this is that line has already sold out of there 05 product...how can that be a bad thing for a ski company?

you see, the problem is, all you guys do is hype yourself and argue, while smuggs just makes sweet beanies, and doesnt even pretend to be a company.

well i guess a lot of people like line skis seeing that they ran out so they cant be that stupid

^It's not a bad thing. No one said selling a lot of skis is bad. What sucks is that because the company is disorganized and can't accurately predict it's sales, the same loyal customers get FUCKED and don't get warrantees, like our victim who posted this thread.

just call line up and tell them your problems they should sort it out if they dont tell them to get nicked and go buy 4frnt.

Just becase they sold all there skis dont mean shit. They could have made like 100 of them, who realy knows!

The sad part is that someone got screwd over!

And now becase this post I will probibly ever buy a pair of line skis!

running out of product as far as the ware house is concerned means a lot of people did their jobs...

damn they are sold outta all of em? i heard they were outta skogens but i didnt think all of em. the local shop here has like 3-4pais of skogens/pollards/nicks left

ElGato,

You're on crack if you think LINE's are handmade. They come out of the Karhu factory in Canada, remember it's a CAP ski! In fact, all of you who want Motherships can go on the Karhu website, buy a pair of Karhu Jak's, and you'll be getting EXACTLY the same ski, just for $200.00 less! Don't believe me? Look it up on the website...

every company runs out of skis, rossi ran out last year, it happens to all companies, this sport is not a big enough market place to overproduce.

^^differant torsions stiffness and forward flex. not the same ski. same dimensions, similar construction diff ski. i know a kid who rides the karhu 'skogen' and he says it actually differant than the skogen. remember, they have differant purposes, so theyre not the same ski. just because its the same manufacturer and similar construction, doesnt mean same ski

you guys need to take a finance class, there is something called the sustainable growth rate, which takes into account how the company financed its current operating activities(debt or equity) and determines the maximum amount of growth the company can handle. thats right people too much growth is a bad thing, because you run into cash flow problems down the road. line is playing their cards right by controlling growth and staying in business. I agree that it sucks you haven't gotten your boards replaced and if i were you i would get in touch with my local rep rather than coming on here and ripping the company

or they could be the exact opposite of stupid. it seems to me that if they have sold out of EVERY SKI that tells me that they are doing something right. am i wrong?

I'd just like to set the record straight on a few of these issues.

1.) We are sold out on Pro Models, Chronics, Mothership Tis, and all but 182 Mothership Flites.

2.) We still have some other skis in stock

3.) I'm sure customer service informed your shop that we are sold out of Skogens and didn't have any other skogens to replace them with. Since Skogens are $550 and 1260s are $350, you'd probably be more pissed if we gave you those.

4.) If you're only getting $100 in credit from your shop, they are screwing you, not us because we would credit your shop the full amount of the ski and you could then use that to purchase something else that you wanted

5.) We have no balsa wood in our skis, only Maple and Aspen

6.) Are skis are as handmade as you can get. We use a wet-lay up process where a factory worker puts every piece of the ski together like a puzzle, then puts the mold into the press by hand, takes it out by hand, cuts the excess material off the ski by hand, and finishes by hand (using machines). Our skis do not travel on an assembly line, and I'd like to meet the person who can press a ski in their hands. Of course we have to use some machinery, but the process is done by hand.

7.) Jason isn't 34, and he has more business experience than 99% of this site. We have to forecast the quantity of skis that will sell based on last years numbers, and all of our skis are produced the summer before they are delivered to your shop. That means that we will be buying materials and ordering the skis from our factory in Feb, before we've even collected orders from our dealers. We can only be so accurate, and we always plan on producing extra skis for re-orders and warranty issues. The fact is we produced 20% more skis than we had orders for last spring. Can we be blamed if there was a greater than expected demand for our product?

8.) If we could simply run up and pump out another couple hudnred skis we would, but unfortuantely raw materials have to come from several suppliers around the world and these materials travel by boat. If we ordered materials now, we wouldn't even have them to START producing skis until December, which means we'd finish production in January and have them at your shops by mid January. Of cousre by then, you'd all bitch that the season is over and you'd want to buy them for less than it cost us to make them.

What should we do?

Thanks for listening
