Well just wanted to know who is liberal, and who is conservative. Explain your points of view and tell me why, i am a liberal because people deserve the same rights ( same sex marrage), and that if the americans don't follow with the kyoto protical all the snow will melt. that means no snow for skiing !!! No, I'm a liberal because I just disagree with nearly all the beliefs of your average conservative, as well as the policy of the republican party as a whole. Social, economic, foreign policy... you name it, I probably disagree with it. I also dislike libertarianism.

I'm conservative.

I am pro-life. I believe in smaller government (not getting it right now though, grrrrrrrr, oh and dont mention the war when it comes to spending because our nations fiscal problems go far beyond that, it all comes from decades and decades of supporting crappy programs with our taxes and giving hundreds of millions to craphole countries and the UN). I believe that every liberal program will eventually fail (programs like socialized health care in Canada, GB, etc. are already failing, and Social Security). Anyone who doesn't believe Social Security is in danger of tanking is a moron. Clinton talked about it all the time in the late 90's, Gore and Bush talked about it in the 2000 campaign. When SS started there were 50 working people for every ONE person on SS. Now the ratio is about 3/1 and it will get even smaller as the baby-boom generation hits retirement.

I believe that everyone deserves tax cuts. And I don't believe that because someone makes 200gs a year they should be dumping nearly 40% of their income back into the government. I believe that businesses deserve tax breaks because it loosens up their reserves and allows them to further research/develop products, create jobs, etc. I believe that morons like Kenneth Lay should be in jail. I know that the goons at Tyco, ENRON, and WorldCom pulled all this shit while Clinton was in office and it was the Bush admin that actually nailed these guys but everyone blames Bush. I also believe that Michael Moore is a greed monger that capitalizes on National Tragedis and he is a lying hypocrit. Al Franken is a moron. Janine Garofolo is full of hate, and Noam Chomsky and all democraticunderground.com (with the exception of a few) are whack job conspiracy theorists that have drank a little too much kool aid in their day.

ps. doesn't being a 'conservative' in this day and age just give off a great impression? seriously, i hate that word. i'd bet many more young people would vote PC if they werent about to be labeled as 'conservatives' after the fact. and politicians think putting 'progressive' in there beforehand helps in the slightest fashion...

my political ideoligies run fairly parallel to those of Graves. i am liberal when it comes to the environment, excepting some issues such as ANWR. conservative on many other fronts, mainly social issues. i by no means support current fiscal policies in america, i dont know how anyone could. i think there are a lot more educated young adults who are conservative, while many liberal beleifs are the product of youthful ignorance and idealism.

and on a side note, i detest ann coulter, the author of the book in jd's post. i went to a banquet at which she spoke and walked out, she is overly-radical and pretty far out on her own little liberal-hating limb. i think she appalled the entire audience of conservative republicans. meh....

in teh Canadian government, I would say Conservatives want to stay the same and Liberals want change. I think both parties jus twant to enforce their policies. Conservatives want to change liberal policies and liberals want t ochange conservatve policies, both parties either want change or to maintain how things are, depending on who is in power.

Canadian government is different, in the states you vote for the person to be in office, but our government is run by many many many different people. So in canada you vote for the party as a whole, not just the person. And if you think that social benifits like free heath care are wrong then your an idiot. If i needed a heart transplant and i want at the top of the list, no matter how much money i would have i would get the heart. But in the states you would just die.

I am a moderate. I try not to match myself with a strict political ideology. I have beliefs that are both "liberal" and "conservative," it just depends on the issue.

I dont believe in excessive drinking, smoking or sleeping around. I am prolife and see Homosexuality as either a genitic defect or psychological disorder since it goes against natural logic of reproduction. I am tolerant of it, but see embracing it as a moral embarrassment to our society. I hate how many of the liberals at my college get so radical about their rights being oppressed and how they should get their fair shot at everything.

Why one or the other? In my opinion, anyone who leans to an extreme is making a mistake. Nothing I've found in this life goes well when done to the extreme.

I think residing in the middle with a set of established, open minded values and morals and making decisions based on circumstances is better than bickering over party lines.

But that's just me....

^Yeah, I wasn't implying that one should not make decisions or take a stand on an issue. That's completely counter productive. But then again, is productivity a good thing? Depends on your definition of good. And there you have the ultimate dilemma. But by taking a stand on a definition of good and bad you can eliminate some of the complexities of those quality judgments.

I can't believe that there are so many young people who are conservatives on this site. Holy crap, do none of you realize that tax-cuts help rich (generally older people) much more than you? A tax cut of 1% on your tiny 1000$ a year salary saves you 10$ a year. It saves your parents on their 100 000$ a year salary 1000$. They are making a killing compared to you. - You could beg and make 10$ in an hour.

The effects of tax cuts on you is that you have to pay for services. This is fine now that your parents are paying for your health care but once you get out on your own, how far will your 10$ get you??? NO WHERE, maybe a couple doughnuts. The rich people don't give a shit because they save 1000$ which more than covers the service costs but your 10$ don't.

So who the fuck are you guys kidding by being conservatives, you are just shooting yourselves in the foot. You are just puppets for your parents, who benefit from your vote. You don't. - Maybe now, but when you are 23, paying university tuition, your parents might loan you some cash; but the handouts will stop eventually.

in response to mattman, a conservative viewpoint does not necessarily reflect a gullible, naive political countenance, but the opposite on many issues. just as being liberal can reflect both the faces of ignorance and open-mindedness. the problem is when people label themselves with one political ideaology and follow it to the grave, regardless of the merits of separate issues. i dont beleive in being partyline liberal of conservative. the issues are too diverse for such generic address.
