How can you be conservative at such a young age? That's like sex without the foreplay. You're gettin the job done, but both of you wanted to get your unit licked.

My point is: I think a lot of young people inherent the beliefs of their parents and form their opinions based on their parents. Not that parents don't have anything good to ffer--exactly the opposite.

My beef is that people just regurgitate their parents' ideas and opinions. Attempt to think for yourself. That doesn't mean you'll be a liberal if you were a conservative, however, USING YOUR BRAIN to come to your OWN conclusions is far better than just repeating your parents' ideas.

Someone wiser than myself once said something to this effect:

If you're not a communist when you're young, you have no heart. If you're still a communist when you're 50, you have no brain.

Now, in light of the latter statement, I still don't think you have be a conservative, close minded dick face when you're 50. The point of the passage is this: you change as you get older and you become less idealistic.

Idealism is great as long as you check it against reality.

I really like the quote, but this is how I view it.

When you are young, money is not the most important issue to you, unless you are poor, in which case you are going to be liberal either way. As you get older and start making tens of thousands a year, the real world hits you. Money becomes the biggest issue in your life. Conservatives are very good at saving rich people money. So the idealistic student gets hit with some big taxes and says, fuck this, fuck the poor people, I am in this for ME. Then they are the crass 50 year old.

That wasn't too well put together, so don't be an idiot and pick it apart, there were some good points.

Conservatives are just ME people. You could argue that its natural selection, the strongest survive, but it isn't the strongest or smartest usually, its the trickiest and sneakiest.

I am not asking any conservative to change their beliefs, because government needs stingy old men who care for nothing but money. I am just saying that many conservatives need to take a walk in someone elses shoes. Imagine what it would be like to be living on the streets before you say you want to cut social secutiy or welfare. Imagine what it would be like you you were dirt poor and your child needed a heart transplant before saying universal health care is bad. Just think.

Anyone on the lower half of the economic scale in any country suffers from conservatism because the tax breaks you get are smaller than the breaks people on the upper half of the scale are getting, yet you pay the same amount for services as they do.

If you are telling me that you make more than 40 000$ a year, then go ahead and be a conservative. But most kids aren't. I make 0$ because I don't work, and consequently there is no reason for me to vote conservative, tax breaks make no difference and service cuts HURT me.

In addition, you're signature implies that you enjoy marijuana, while your response to Jessbuff implies that you disagree with his liberal stance, thus that you are more conservative than him. The point of my post was to point out that you change as you get older, but you need to keep the fire alive inside of you and not fall into the ultra conservative trap, which, as you nicely pointed out, fucks over some people. Conservative people should have empathy (and many do, I'm trying to lump all conservatives together) and it is a very self-centered, close minded approach. However, extreme liberalism presents the same quantity and severity of problems.

I'm a moderate, a social democrat. I'm not telling anyone they should or shouldn't be. I'm stating my "party" because it seems that you were addressing me as a conservative, which I am NOT.

My bottom line: collaborate, empathize, think for yourself, and question authority.

I think that it is silly to classify yourself as one or the other because surely one side cannot have every stand that you belive in. For president i think people should vote for who they feel is the better candidate not strictly which party. Independent voter is the way to go. I would probably be classified as more conservative but i keep and open mind.

i find that most of my professors in school are a buch of botards that have nurse their tenure system and have a altered sense of reality. Many of mine have rarely worked in the real world for a good chunk of their lives.

 
J.D., arguing that people in political science classes are real educated is kinda weak. Last poly sci class I had was full of 'capitalism is great in theory' idiots. I was one of the only right wing people in the class. Poly sci classes are always full of unrealistic, ideologically driven leftists. In fact poly sci is one of the only places these people can later get a job...

As far as whoever it was who said that people just regurgitate their parent's political beliefs, I'd argue thta much more people latch on to what the 'cool' party is, which in the States would be the democrats. It seems thta hating on Republicans and George W is a huge passtime for some people, many of whom aren't even really educated about what they rant about...

in today's world there simply needs to be a balance between conservatism and liberalism. This would lead to a perfect world but is absolutely impossible. That is, because strongly leftist liberals have an idea of an ideal world where its all about peace and love, but they do not really take in account that human nature made our specy wanting power and money (for "evil" persons in theory but at some point this applys to everyone) . Conservatives are more about traditions and keeping things the way they have always been, for the hell of it, and freely express and show their will to have a lot of power and money for their class. They're sellfish in other words, but if everyone was born in rich redneck families im sure most people would be conservatives too because of not having to go through trouble that poor people endure, and its hard to give up good things for others... Oh well, you just dont choose in which conditions you were born so it all depends. I am a liberal but I try to take into account the conditions of every political party and put myself in their situation to see how they think and understand it...

Im kind of a moderate I guess. I got both ways on things. I just hate the Liberals that are so pro enviroment. There have been things proposed here in bozeman to ban all hiking and skiing in a certain mountain range to preserve it. Now tell me where the logic in that is.

no. being liberal simply for money reasons is not a valid argument. and why are educators primarily left wing? hmm lets think about it. and, university staff are not the only educated people out there. take a look at the political standpoint of those in business, legal, medical, technical, etc. professions, and you will find that there are many, many well educated people out there who stand in the middle and the right.
