Let's go Canucks!!!!!!!

Yeah, playoffs baby.

Luongo and the Sedins complemented by one of the best defensive cores in the NHL bring the Canucks back to the playoffs after last year's absence.

Best PK in the league, stingy defense all lead me to believe that the Canucks will win in 6.

THoughts

yeah....like Ottawa has any chance of making the finals.

Fucking french pussy's.....play like sally's once all the other teams step up the intensity in the playoffs.

the french are better than both of you. If the Canucks are more french than the senators, they are therefore better.

Go canucks go! Kick the stars' asses wednesday!

Your logic is bang on; after all, Montreal had an amazing season... oh wait, they're golfing.

I did not intend for this thread to go all Ottawa Vs. Vancouver, after all, I wanted to save that drama for the finals. But JD, I do have one nagging question. How many playoff rounds have the Canucks won since, oh, the 95-96 season? Please, worry about giving the heimlich to your own set of chokers before you go on about ours.

i dont think it was the canucks choking as much as it was their goalies letting in goals from centre and other momentum/confidence crushing goals

Well first of all, you should be taking shots at the Red Wings not the Canucks, because until this year that's who I've been backing. But that's not the good part about this... A sens fan wanting to compare playoff history? I'm laughing on the inside. And the outside. Nice cutoff there, just after the 94 finals run! That's like starting in 94 and talking about the Habs' woes... except even less fair, because the Habs get to play in the eastern fucking conference and don't have to deal with the 90's Forsberg-Sakic-Hejduk-Tanguay-Blake-Deadmarsh-Foote-Roy Avs every year (last time we played them their 1st power play unit made more than our entire roster) not to mention the Red Wings. The Senators get to play the Leafs. How did that work out again? Have the senators ever been to the finals? Let me see if I can remember...

Senators playoff history:

1997: 7th seed. Eliminated in round 1. Get used to it.

1998: 8th seed. Out in 2nd round.

1999: Northeast division title! Swept 4-0 in round 1.

2000: 2nd seed. Eliminated in round 1. By the leafs.

2001: 2nd seed. 2 division titles in a row… swept 4-0 by the Maple Leafs in the first round!

2002: 3rd seed. Eliminated the pathetic flyers in round 1, then lost again. To the leafs.

2003: Highlight of Ottawa’s franchise! President’s trophy! Top team in the league! 1st seed for the playoffs! Lost to the Devils in round 3.

2004: Fourth straight series loss to the leafs. That’s not even a rivalry.

2006: #1 Seed! Happy days are here again! Lost 4-1 in the 2nd round.

Wow, looks like you guys have a history of getting top seeds and home ice advantage and then falling apart in the east. The EAST. And you think you stand a chance against the WEST? By the way, I didn't mean 6 games against the Canucks, the Wings, the Sharks or anyone else in the finals. I meant 6 games in the playoffs. Welcome to your first round exit, there's still some stuff here from all the other times you visited.

I think the most embarassing thing is losing to the leafs all those damn times, especially when you were way ahead in points and should've killed them. The entire country was relying on your team to shut those pricks up, and you failed us all. 4 times in a row.

Respect is earned.

Sorry. It's hard to make a record of failure like that one any more concise.

Why is it that everyone in this fucking country thinks they're a fucking NHL general manager?

You aren't a GM, shut the fuck up.

In that entire timeline, the Canucks won a playoff series. 4-3 against the Blues. And fans from the west stop making noise about this west-east thing? You can't keep talking shit on the other conference when they somehow manage to win the cup each year.

They win the cup because they have an easy time of it getting through every year. If the NHL cross-bracketed teams, 1 west v 8 east, 2 west v 7 east, etc, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sabres ended up being the only east team to make round 2. Look at the matchups. It's pathetically lopsided. Imagine if the Wings got to play Dublewicz's Islanders, or the Canucks got the Rangers instead of the Stars. There are very few sure things going into these playoffs, but here's one: whoever gets out of the west this year is going to be beat to hell. I can't say that about the East.

I'll say this right now: The Canucks would be better off playing any eastern playoff team than the Stars, except for Buffalo. Even the Devils.

copy and pasted from nhl.com

East is East and West is West. But when the two play each other, there’s no question that the West is the best.

San Jose’s visit to Carolina Saturday night will be the 150th and last inter-conference game of the season, the second under the current format that sees teams play just 10 out-of- conference games during an 82-game schedule. Just as they did last season, Western teams have gotten the best of their Eastern rivals. In fact, they’re even more dominant than they were in 2005-06.

With one game remaining, the West leads the series, 82-47-20, while Eastern teams are 67-63-19. That’s even better than last season, the first under the new inter-conference format, when the West went 79-52-19 to 71-62-17 for the East. The Chicago Blackhawks (3-5-2) and Columbus Blue Jackets (4-6-0) were the only teams from the West that got less than half of the 20 points available in inter-conference play.

As they were last season, the Sharks and Vancouver Canucks have been the best of the West. San Jose is 8-1-0 going into its game against Carolina, and can match its 9-1-0 record of last season with a victory. Vancouver was 9-1-0 last season and went 8-1-1 this season. The Canucks also are the only team to go undefeated at home in both seasons; the Sharks were 5-0-0 at the HP Pavilion last season and 4-1-0 this season.

With the Canucks leading the way, the Northwest Division has been the best in the NHL this season at 29-14-7, including a 19-5-1 mark in home games. Those games came against the Southeast Conference, which has a league-worst 16-24-9 mark. Southeast teams went just 6-13-6 on the road and are the only division with a sub-.500 mark at home (10-11-3).

Just enough? -- Snagging a few extra points against the other conference might not sound like much, but it can make the difference between winning and losing a division — or whether a team makes the playoffs. Vancouver’s one-point lead over Minnesota in the Northwest Division stems from the fact that the Canucks got 17 points against the East to 12 for the Wild. In the Central, Detroit has one more point against the West than Nashville, but the Predators have a one-point lead because they got 15 points against the East to 13 for the Wings.

In the East, the defending Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes have more points against Eastern teams than any of the teams they’re competing against in the race for the last three playoff berths. But the ‘Canes have just seven points against the West, less than Tampa Bay (11), the New York Rangers (12) and Islanders (11), Montreal (14) and Toronto (10) — a big reason they’re barely hanging on to the eighth and final playoff berth as they try to avoid becoming the first defending champion since New Jersey in 1996 to miss the playoffs one season after winning the Cup.

Offense or defense -- The West’s dominance of the East would appear to be largely attributable to its defense. Of the nine teams that enter the weekend having allowed less than 200 goals, only two (New Jersey and the Rangers) are from the East. Also, of the 137 shutouts this season, Western teams have 84, with every team having at least three — a total seven Eastern teams haven’t managed. Take out New Jersey’s league-leading 12 shutouts and the other 14 Eastern teams have managed just 41. Seven Western teams have six or more shutouts, compared with just two in the East.

ah, so I'm not the only one thinking that...

Jesus titty fucking christ, what a rich boy image hockey has when you look around, everyone talking so much about leagues, teams, strategies and whatnot, when it all comes down to the fact that the better players will simply win/make their team win because of their individual and team skills...

No need to go into details, support one team, put down all others. Hockey needs team-bashing songs like soccer has, and more rowdyness!

Apparently, only one of you bothered to read what I had to say, so I'm gonna quote myself in hopes that you read it now.

You are NOT a GM or coach. You are NOT behind the bench or in the boardroom for a multitude of reasons. Therefore, SHUT THE FUCK UP.

oddly enough the viewers of ESPN, participants in fantasy leagues, betters... and people in this thread... dont care and enjoy it anyway.

Ignoring whiny non-fans who could just as easily not come into this thread as bitch about a sport they have no interest in... all I can say is HOLY SHIT WHAT A GAME!

Yeah... it's one of those things where it's amazing, but you don't exactly want another one right away. Tiring just to watch.

Fucking ridiculous game. I was dying waiting the the new OT periods to start. 15 minutes felt like forever. And the fucks behind me were so drunk there was no chance to grab a little catnap.

Fucking amazing play by both teams, especially the goalies. I don't know how they lasted that long, I was in the stands and I was exhausted. Great to see Naslund had a good game. For christ's sake he was hitting people and playing defence! Awesome!

TV. So H-Core. I bet its right up there with those poor 7 Canuck players who were still at the arena this morning at 3am having 1/2-1L of fluids pushed through them via IV.

That's exactly it, you almost feel bad getting tired as they move into the AM. Apparently some of the Stars players needed stretchers, and everyone was on IV drips. Reminds me of the 5ot game a couple years ago where Giguere lost 12 pounds in one night or something ridiculous like that.

Holy shit I thought that game was never going to end... but I called the Sedins ending it as soon as OT started... and they sure did.

I've found a new source of entertainment when I want to take a break from exam prep: The Dallas Stars official forums!

http://boards.dallasstars.com/

The best part is that their wwebsite has a section called "hockey 101" so that fans can learn the basic rules before they go to a game. Apparently this is necessary in Dallas.

Uhhhhh.....i watched the whole game and it was long but worth it. Made it to a bar for last call and the final OT....i live in Colorado now so no one knew why my boys and I were so excited.

Think this was a good first game for the Canucks?

Or will the fatigue and loss of Cooke/Burrows hurt the nucks?

whend it end, i watched til like 1230 ... then wound up sleeping through the class i went to bed to get up for anyway.

Damn straight Nolan, damn straight!

Shop jobs DO NOT make for ski industry status, other than "bitch" level..ahhaha! I was so stoked I got to crash your Sha-Lin Noodle experience today, like I always seem to. One day I might have more than just the tea...mmm tea....

That game was fucked, in that I went for dinner, where the game was on, went out after, where the game wasn't on (thank god), and then got home, when I figured the game would be over, only to find it STILL on TV. Craaazzzzyyy shit yo. 2 and 1/3 games, or very near that.

Yeah, watching it on TV was super fucking tiring, right up there with playing in the game itself.

Update for the Andrew.

The good news: News 1130 reports that Cooke is only day-to-day, and Burrows has no problem, he'll play game 2, it was just a precautionary measure to take him out in case he had a concussion.

The bad news: Kesler out a MONTH with a broken finger which apparently requires some sort of medical procedure to fix. It's a finger. I don't get it.

Ohhhh what a relief... we can sure use his energy and kick he gives every time he steps onto the ice.

But damn that sucks about Kesler.

That's what I assumed would happen, but apparently not. It might be some sort of nerve damage? I'm not a doctor. But unless they're doing it to fuck with the opposition, they wouldn't say he's out unless he was out. On the other hand, St Louis came back from a similar injury in under a week after the docs predicted 3-4 weeks, that was earlier this year.

Nathan Smith and Jannik Hansen have been recalled from the Moose. I hope Hansen plays, he's a threat. If he weighed another 20 pounds he'd be a 2nd liner.

Kesler had surgery this morning at 6am, 7 of the Canucks players were on IV fluids til 3am at the arena. Most of them had average weight loss of 5-8Ibs.

Oh Brian you're so cute!

Vancouver has the WORST bandwagon fans in the NHL. The WORST. No one except the 18000-some odd people in GM place give a shit during the regular season, then the Canucks miraculously make the playoffs, and BAM! everyone is a goddamn hockey fan, flags are on cars, and it's "wear your jersey to work" day.

Give it up.
