Last year to hit Chad's Gap and Pyramid

Just thought I'd let you all know that if you've ever dreamed of hitting

Chad's Gap or Pyramid Gap, it sounds like this is the last year that

you'll be able to do so. Alta will be putting a lift up grizzly gulch

next summer. Just got back from a very interesting meeting with the 7

central wasatch GMs........

MASSIVE LAND GRAB going down all brought about by the canyons pushing

for a lift connecting them to solitude and snowbird expanding into mary

ellen gulch. kiss 50% of the backcountry in the wasatch goodbye.

don't like what you hear???!?!

call or email your local representatives and tell them that you don't support

H.R. 3452 - Wasatch Range Recreation Access Enhancement Act

here is the info for the utah congressman

actual sources of what?Quit updating your soy blog and wake up and write your congressmen.

Sure the haters doin the chicken little lifts in grizzly ski is fallin look at me thing but the

bullshit sillysolitaliwhacker ganjola legislation to give away our right to our public lands is goin on.

d B ass and buddy boner want to disnify the LCC and would love white pine.

wake up don't let the rich buy their way into pie in the sky bullshit pipe dreams.

Just a quick google of the bill brings this up:

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h112-3452

"To provide for the sale of approximately 30 acres of Federal land in

Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in Salt Lake County, Utah, to permit

the establishment of a minimally invasive transportation alternative

for skiers, called "SkiLink", to connect two ski resorts in the Wasatch

Mountains, and for other purposes."

I doubt that most people here on NS really do any serious touring out of Grizzly, but i could be wrong. So another lift is going in, well i just see it a way that the resort will spread out all the people. Its not like everyone will suddenly say, "hey fuck skiing wildcat lets just ski grizzly" just won't happen. it is a bummer that there are a bunch of lifts being created in the backcountry and expanding of the resorts. My advise is to call your congressman and not demand they stop but give them some facts and well thought out reasons why most people don't want this.

The hater is another crybaby pouser who doesn't even really tour he is just playin OMG the lifts are being built my sad can't tour more than 2k in well known spots that are crowded cause other can't find anything new to ski it's so crowded whiners.

Fuckin grizzly gulch = lame south facing wankers from alta cat skiing good till the sun comes out

marginal blue square crap. put lifts in it

put lifts up flag so candy asses like the hater have to come in from the bottom pof silver days cardiff on their mdf

trecker 18 din binders on bdizzle mega fatties.

It's okay Hater the world needs mouthpiece pousers too brah.

I am going to throw the biggest fit if they continue this stupid push to put a lift up Flag. Stupid fucking idea.

dude!?!?! really!? do you fucking know me? no. have i met you? nope.

but do i know who you are? you betcha.

sorry, i'm being proactive and getting the word out.

and I doubt most newschoolers care about the loss of bear trap fork and mill d north fork to the "SkiLink" environmental savior gondola....... BUT you know what they do care about??? grizzly gulch and its gap jumps! and you know what's going to be directly effected by that bullshit legislation being pushed through congress???? grizzly gulch! that's the first place alta will expand and you're being naive if you don't think all the ski resorts will push for expansion once the can and sellitdude connect.

you are also being naive to think that house bill 3452 and senate bill 1883 won't set a precedent stripping SL county watershed and the FS of its authority concerning the cottonwood canyons.

SFB, why don't you call your boss at ski utah and talk to them about the interconnect???? I'm sure any of those guys will tell you that its all but a done deal........

if you want sources just sit on your hands and wait till its too late. this shit is happening behind close doors till the last final steps are needed to avoid the public outcry that is pending

I'm not hating, just asking here...but how does the new gondola from the canyons to solitude cause any side/backcountry near the canyons to be lost?

STFU get out of the pen and go ski somethin new and quit running around withersloogin your chicken little head off.

Grizzley gulch is some of the lamest terrain in the wasatch and you probably know it. The fact that people pay to snow cat that crap amazes me.

As does the ohhh it's so crowed whiners like you

L6_sized.jpg

wahh the sheeps pen is so crowded

wahhhh the lifts will be everywhere

wahhhh my mdf's weigh so much I can't get out of the pen

wahhh no chads gap

wahhhhhhhhhhhhhmbalance

"waahhhh" is what the dudes were saying when me and my friends smoked them on day wreckers on all the preseason tours I've done this year.

If you want, we can all "get out of the pen" and invade all the lines you ski.

Or, you can be thankful that we only care about Grizz. You have to realize there are two types of BC skiing out there. People like you who want to tour 3 hours to farm wiggle turns, then the younger generation who wants to get out of the park and go hit jumps into deep snow. There's no problem with either.

The thread creator is claiming this and I'm still trying to figure out how, if anyone can answer that I'd appreciate it.

Here's just a little blurb from a petition going around- pretty much, the gondola is going to run through a bunch of popular Wasatch backcountry areas. Stupid fucking idea.

"The proposed tram would bisect public land, disrupting primitive backcountry area. The area surrounding the tram, while not in-bounds to the ski area, would effectively become such, as skiers could ski in that terrain and then ride the lift back to the resort."

If you want to sign a petition against it, here's the link-

http://www.change.org/petitions/us-congress-stop-the-sale-of-forest-service-land-to-ski-area-developers

Sorry for the dub post, but I just realized what op said.

And although some of the Wasatch backcountry WILL be interrupted, I really really don't think that it's 50% of it...

Thanks. I get that's the lift itself is going in the backcountry, but I didn't understand the claims that more skiers will be in bear trap and mill d north. I see that those particular claims are baseless...

I'm kind of torn on this issue, I see one side where the population of the wasatch front is rising and the wasatch mtns will need to develop a little more to meet the needs of that population growth. I also would hate to be riding wasatch crest in the summer or skinning up the monitors and have the views ruined by a new gondola, ski around lift towers, etc...

anyone know if they would have to control the area under the gondola at all in case they had a lift evac and a thousand gapers in the bc?

you don't think more resort skiers will choose to hike up and out of the 9990 gate and ski into bear trap or mill d when they don't have to hike back up into the area because there will now be a lift at solitude that will bring them back to the PC side??? that's a pretty naive viewpoint..........

this lift will essentially makes that area in bounds

ok I should re-state that to 50% of the backcountry of the central wasatch. the area of the wasatch surrounding SLC and PC.

I'm also going to differ between backcountry and sidecountry because

they are very different. sidecountry areas see much more traffic, so if

adding a lift creates a new easier accessed sidecountry area, I

consider that a lose of backcountry. I don't necessarily consider the

experience of skiing rocky point or wolvy (sidecountry) the same as

skiing the needle (backcountry) and i think this is fair.

let me show you.......

Canyons to Solitude: this knocks out bear trap fork, mill d north fork,

usa bowl, etc...... that's all now sidecountry, but this will be skied

even more than now because you don't have to hike out.

Snowbird mary ellen gulch expansion: obviously you lose mary ellen, not a

super big deal as its difficult to get in there, but now that lift will

probably make access super easy into white pine.

Now these two events will probably result in....

PCMR to brighton: loss of 10420, guardsman area.

brighton into snake creek drainage (just this week they revealed this, do you think that's coincidence or because all of the other resorts are lining up in hopes that hr3452 and S1883 get passed???)

Alta expands into grizzly (a sure bet regardless). bye bye chads.

solitude expands into silver fork and to the top of grizzly/fantasy

ridge (probably a sure bet regardless). increasing ease of access into

days fork and silver fork.

Alta also has shown interest in putting a lift up flagstaff. That would

knock out emma ridge, days, cardiff, superior, monte cristo......

So that's a loss of bear trap, mill d north, usa bowl, 10420, guardsman,

grizzly gulch, emma ridge, silver, days, cardiff forks, superior s.

face, monte cristo south side, white pine, mary ellen gulch, snake creek..... I'd

estimate that's about 50% of the central wasatch. sure you'll still be

able to walk up days/silver/cardiff from BCC but now you're competing

with a lift and helicopters (remember that's a prime heli zone).

and before you tell me how awesome this will be, just remember that you

can hike all these areas anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours as it

currently is..... pretty amazing access already and these areas are

already crowded with backcountry skiers and most of the land is PUBLIC,

forest service land and serves as a protected watershed for a million+

people.

I don't believe there is any need to expand ski areas to encompass a growing population. if you want to ski fresh snow and not deal with lift lines than HIKE! Simple as that........

Plus that's where the ski industry is headed. Every binding company will have a touring binding out by next year. Most ski companies are making their own skins. Touring in America is increasing ten fold. In europe, tons of the skiing population has already embraced touring.

I was in silver fork last weekend and there was at least 50 people in that drainage alone! I passed another 15-20 people in grizzly gulch as we exited, the wasatch backcountry is crowded! and that's a good thing, to me it signals that more lifts aren't needed as the public (whose most of these lands belong to) already is using these areas, if you put a lift in you are going to limit those public lands to be used by the small fraction of people that can afford to pay for a lift ticket

You are so woefully misinformed it's sad.you're almost doing a diservice by spouting off about shit you have little to no clue about

but soli aint expandin into silly fork fs shut that pipe dream down

You and your mdf trecker duke brahs east coast joeys may not be able to acess cardif from donut but i sure as hell can and if the shut down s facin flag access fine less I cant do the extra 5 miles to gain that vert aint gonna be in there great. Same with days silver and mineral non of these will be lost just some easy access your crying about. Whaahhhhh there is no safe easy south facing acess to broads and millb

probably why it doesn't ever get skied out

ever been I doubts it all bluffy fluffy chickken little aliasss

there are maybe a dozen skin makers and 100's of ski manufactuers were did you pull that bullshit out of?

10420 cereal people skin to that from guardsmen???

aint much difference tween side slack or backcountry both kill ya pretty quick little easier for als and the pros to bailya out but been skiin em all.

Pay for passes??????

BWWWAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

when it finally snows you should do nebo, bells, box elder or gbnp and quit your wahhh it's so crowded whinnin

and git sum where you will see none one

You want credibility sites? Save Our Canyons is about as credible as it gets. I am not sure about the ski lift going up flag, but if the SKiLINK proposed by the Canyons goes through, Flag will go down as well as Superior.

The following are Save Our Canyons sites.

www.saveourcanyons.org

There will be a public awareness event this week. S.O.C. will be presenting the facts since good ol Orrin Hatch and Rob Bishop shot gunned this through congress instead of letting their constituency know. Follow S.O.C.'s facebook for updates on organizing.

Please, tell me what I'm misinformed about. My opinions? Or, that there is more than one type of "backcountry" skier? Or the part about trekkers?

Aside from that, I don't think I stated any facts, or any information at all that could make me "misinformed"

Haha the part about types of backcountry skiers. Ya all younger kids go out and build boaters...hahaAll older dudes go wasatch wiggle in mill creek. Thats where I think you're a complete retard.

What makes you think your special when your skinning by dudes on your day wreckers pre season at Alta to build a jump?

Use your fucking brain. I obviously know it's not strictly jumps, or

strictly wiggle turns. For the sake of comparing this old dude, and the

majority of the people on this site, I think those two categories of

skiers work.

And I don't think I'm special. My trekkers comment was in response to SFB420s multiple references to MFDs (or what he refers to as mdfs).

"wahhhh my mdf's weigh so much I can't get out of the pen"

"You and your mdf trecker duke brahs east coast joeys"

I don't know why it matters so much what you have on your feet. I'd love a Dynafit set up, but don't want to drop another $1000 on a set up. and I've never ONCE bitched about my set up being too heavy.

What makes SFB so special because he uses a light touring set up? everything is two sided man.

lol at all you people so caught up in where each other are skiing and what you're skiing on and how you're getting up the mountain when this discussion is supposed to be about ski resorts expanding into the backcountry.

get a fuckin grip people.

what a joke some people in utah are.

The canyons-solitude tram was shut down by the forest service after they conducted an Environmental Evaluation. I imagine they will do the same in little cottonwood canyon.

it hasn't been shut down. its an active bill in both houses of congress (the US house of representatives and the US senate)

the forest service came out against it, but our US republican congressmen in utah sponsored bills in both the senate and the house to sell PUBLIC lands to a FOREIGN corporation (talisker).

if these bills pass (HR 3452 and S 1883), it will set off a catalyst for a massive land grab.........

PUT DOWN YOUR SPECIAL SAVE OUR CANYONS ARMAGEADOEON ISSUE AND THE HYPE AND GO SKIING OR BECOME BETTER EDUCATED BEFORE LOOKING/SOUNDING STUPID Cardiff upper is not to bad

gettin laid is also a most worthy cause

go for the ones that break trail ;)

I prefer to spend my money on snowmobiles than touring gear. The access is quite a bit more enjoyable, and usually quite a bit faster too... But hey, two each their own.

Why don't you hop off the entitlement high-horse and offer some information yourself? Besides your piss poor grammar and blatant need for self confidence by ripping apart ill-experienced bc skiers on a freestyle oriented forum, do you care to offer up any advice?

I don't think I have ever seen one positive post from you. All I ever read is a tribute to yourself through what you think is superior avy knowledge. Yeah I get a little perturbed when I see people without beacons and overall naivety in the backcountry, but I at least offer a helping hand. There's a lot of people in "the sheep's pen" who think they are god's greatest gift to earth and it really should stop. You are no more special than the active adventure seeker who is doing Superior for the first time.

Now back to the issue,

I think writing congressmen is a good idea. However, without a large volume there will be no result. None of this shit really concerns them unless a loud voice is heard. I know I will for sure be sending in a hand-written letter. Any other ideas? Would be nice if I could still hike Patsy every now and then and get fresh turns!

want my advice pea brain stfu take avvy one and two get your emt or woofer tour for a decade, do all the wbr dog certs and donate as much time and $$$ to the fuac as you can. practice beacon drills often enough to win a comp or two and go to tgr if you want adult discussion of this topic by people who know wtf they're talking about.oh and sup may not be the best 1st tour you probably missed the ussw at the depot but good incident account of the situation on the nw coli of the pheif last april especially in the in over our heads context.

wfiw my 1st tour butler aspens over a decade ago.

WOOOOOW!... old man donated his hard earned money and won a beacon finding contest or two..solid work! ...fuck going to tgr for "adult discussion..by people who know wtf they're talking about"...every time i look at the wasatch conditions thread I see you and all your super pro avy knowledge circle jerkin buddies talking shit to each other for who has less in bounds POV footy, who's wayyy to core to tour in LCC, and who can farm the pussiest graded slopes in silver fork..sorry a few of us are slowly making the transition to backcountry and have only been here for a couple years..I unfortunately haven't been graced the decades you have been to spend hiking through the butler aspens with my thumb up my ass...don't worry old man I'll burn by you on day wreckers on my way up to raymonds and make sure to give you the bird as I pass you're gracefully laid 8s that you most likely took a picture of and posted to tgr to let all your super knowledgeable sweet adult friends get a chubby over.

from one stubborn person to the next..please shut the fuck up and leave a forum where nobody gives a fuck what you say, and of course...have a nice day! : )

TGR is hit or miss. There are some real jackasses in the Wasatch thread, but Ive met/become friends with some good mags over there who helped a brotha out when I was new to the area last year. You learn who to ignore and who to pay attention to, but there are some guys who know more than I probably ever will when it comes to snowpack. Getting my Level 11 thru UAC next week though, at least.

thank you heff. that needed to be done.

but anyways, aside from this old doucher trying to act like he's better than us, OR the gear conversation, OR the kids saying that everyone else is being stupid, all of us, old or young have to care about the expansion of the resorts in the Wasatch. no matter what your viewpoint is on wilderness and the backcountry, this is a classic example of a CORPORATION - TALISKER paying off OUR LEGISLATORS to go around our backs and not use a democratic process to purchase this substantial piece of Utah real estate .

SO EMAIL/ CALL/ and BITCH until our voices are heard.

Bwaaah you won the ohio wally tamrich gargle offand blogged about it???

any time you wanna put a little $$$$ on you smokin me you just step on up their little leauger

blog boy.

have mom sign your wavier though.
