What are you talking about when you say everyone in college. I am entering my 3rd year of university and not one of my friends have ever driven drunk
 
im back from college for the summer... I was at a party tonight at a buddys house that lives about 5 miles from me. I would usually drive home from a party like this considering I was only about 4.5 beers deep, but i called my brother to pick me up, purely because of this thread and what happend to brogan. I hope everyone here can learn a lesson from this at the very least.
I wish we could do more for you brogan, pull through man.

To the topic of drunk driving: I don't know the story behind this accident, but in general I have NO sympathy for drunk drivers. When someone puts only himself in danger I really don't care, since it's their own decision, but fact is, that we all share the roads. "Being in college" or "only doing it this one time" is no fucking excuse. The roads are dangerous and so is alcohol.

I don't wish anyone anything bad and I know we all do crazy stuff when we're drunk, but PLEASE don't drive while intoxicated.
 
obviously she didn't mean literally everyone, and the prevalence of drunk driving varies place to place. but at CU, where Laura (the girl you quoted) and I went (doesn't Brogan also go there now?) it is outrageous how many people drive while fucked up (stoned, drunk, both, or anything else) and how frequently.
 
dude, it was a blanket statement (which i forgot people flip out about on here) based on my personal experiences. lots of kids i know here in boulder and back home where i live in a small town drive drunk like its NBD, and i know more people in breck who have DUIs than don't.

i like how everyone took the very last part of my original post and just ran with it (OMG EVERYONE FREAK OUT,BLANKET STATEMENT! please, let's split more hairs on this website), totally ignoring the original point that was directed at the asshole who hoped the driver in the accident was seriously injured.
 
you kids talking about how none of your friends have ever driven drunk, who have never met anyone who has driven drunk, are very lucky. like laura said, i know tons of people that do/have driven drunk. i went to a school with 17,000 undergrad, and there were DUI's nightly. i know kids that drive drunk on a weekly basis. my friends have DUIs. it's wrong, we try to prevent it, but it happens way more often than you would think. you all swear that you will never get in a car with a drunk driver, but it happens.

her point wasn't that drunk driving is cool. it's that the kid wishing harm upon the chick that was driving is a dickhead.

but, you guys are right: this isn't the place for this discussion. brogan is the man, nicest kid ever, kills so hard, everybody needs to just take minute to be thankful that he's alive, and he's getting better.
 
EXACTLY! Do you think Jon would like to read all these posts of people argueing and making judgements. We really don't even know the details of what happened anyway.

All that matters is that Jon has a full recovery, one day at a time. Lets just keep this thread upbeat and positive in support of Brogans recovery.
 
had the chance to meet brogan in boston a few years ago before he and my bud were heading up to IF3. very chill/modest about how DOPE of a skiier he really is. ++VIBES to him.

he'll afterbang the shit out of his surgery without a doubt.
 
I am really sad to see that a lot of people are not paying respect as they should and turning this thread into a fight about drunk driving. I guess the first comment I made didn't go through.
No one was there the night of the accident, you cant really take a stand because you have no idea what happen . The point of this thread is not to try and figure it out neither, or if there was some rite or wrong.
For those who knew the victims, pay respect and send vibes, thats all we can do .
People are coming up with a ton of stories and it gets twisted. In fact, I will clear that out rite now, that has nothing to do with Cu boulder because the accident happened in Pa.
Did any of you even ask themselves why no one really told the exact causes of the accident ,Jon has several good friends on ns you know , They probably want to leave the family and Brogan some privacy.
Please stay respectful to him and also to the driver of the car. Again , the people who know what happen are the people that were in the car and sadly they are not here to tell us about it.
Also, when this argument first started I messaged 3 mods about it, the comment saying > and so on, should've been deleted rite away. On the 3 of you , only 1 stepped up and emailed me back and said it wasn't a big deal.
Maybe its time to actually do your job instead of banning people for saying gay,dicks or get out of the kitchen, its some serious matter here.
Ns never seems to disappoint me more everyday.

 
Also for those who are interested in his progress. This is the last update we got :
hi everyone! jon is really progressing. the best news is he left the hospital and has moved to a rehabilitation facility. this is where all the hard work is going to take place for jon... jon is going to be in therapy all day, every day. except for meals and times of rest, he is going to be working on the injuries he has incurred from the accident. he is trying...every day he is trying but this really is going to be the most difficult part. i'm asking that you don't drift away from sending hope, love and messages. this is when jon is going to need you the most. when he gets well enough to start reading again, i know all of this will matter to him. i realize it is easy to go on each day, as jon will, and maybe send fewer thoughts but please don't. even if a memory comes to you in your day, and you want to share it here, this would be good for jon to read and remember. your support has been overwhelming. i've never seen such a great group of 1020 friends in my life!
Thanks to Angela who has been feeding us with updates everyday ! I hope this clears up this convo and leaves u in good thoughts ! Keep on sending vibes people ! Its def woeking !
 
Thank you for posting the update, as well as your previous post regarding privacy/++Vibes etc. Totally agree with you.

I'm happy to see Jon is making progress, but it sounds like he has a long road ahead of him. This is going to be difficult for him, poor guy. Man, how life can change in the blink of an eye. He is always in my prayers for continued healing. Bless him.
 
no thread of this caliber on newschoolers has ever stayed 100% on topic. people will form and voice their opinions no matter what. the overall integrity of this thread hasn't been ruined, and ultimately, everyone is hoping for the best.
 
When the first person posted about what happend in the accident ( which was completely stupid ) I think , > was enough. I messaged 3 mods and only one got back to me and said it wasnt a big deal. I really question the idea of having moderators if they cant do their job correctly.
 
His quick progress impresses me mary, he is doing so well. As Angela said, thats gonna be the hardest part. He will start working on the injuries he had from the accident and slowly go back to regular life.Thats when he is going to need the most vibes. Dont drift away from sending all these vibes. I am sure it has helped him. Hes been going through this like a champion. I think he is now a very good role model to anyone who has been severally injured and also an inspiration. +++VIBES

I think she points out an important moral discrepancy in this situation.

If the NS mods delete profane language to prevent offending people should they also delete comments that could hurt people?

Don't misunderstand me, I think debate over controversial and emotionally charged topics is very important. However a thread designed for supporting a fellow rider and their family is NOT the place for these opinions.

May I ask those who disagree, do you think it is appropriate to kick a man when he is down? Should you cause additional emotional pain to a man already in pain? Is this the right thing to do?
 
I do agree with you in the sense that hurting people is hurting people regardless. But in the end, I view it as healthy discussion. you learn more from having very opposing thoughts than having similar ones.

It's an e-mail account I have started, and will monitor.The point of it is to give all of newschoolers.com somewhere they can send there e-mails supporting him, without bombarding his family with letters and e-mails. Then after a certain amount of time has passed, I will compile all the e-mails into a single booklet of well wishes, and they will be delivered to him by way of a close friend of his.

i think its ironic that you bitch about the thread getting off topic and about privacy and shit but then you go off on a tangent about how the mods are doing a bad job and about how there shouldnt be any mods cause someone had the nerve to let ns knowing what actually happened...

AND TALKING ABOUT THE DRUNK DRIVING, SOME OF THE HICKS AT MY SCHOOL WILL SIT IN THE STUDENT PARKING LOT, DRINKING BEERS AND VODKA, AND THEN DRIVE HOME
