I've just realized...

how freestyle skiing has become almost 100% looks.

We post endless pages on what we are going to wear, and hate on one and another,

but the soul purpose of skiing is to simply have fun.

I think maybe some of us have lost that, but hopefully no one forgets that everyday of skiing is the best day of your life, no matter what you're wearing or doing.

Just have fun and shred!

haha that's one of the reasons why i refuse to post any pics of my outerwear. you wanna see what i'm gonna wear this season? you can come shred with me then. i'll see how your g-suit squares up against my skills.

I do like trying to have some cool outerwear, but i still ski for the fun of it. And i could care less what others are wearing ill shred with anyone.

Agree 100%.

Lets also not forget that people dress the way that they do on the mountain to enhance that fun in some way. So when the hater brings the hate, they're essentially telling the hated that their way of having fun is somehow less valid.

I guess. But clothing is used to define a group.

You can tell who's a skater by looking at the brand of clothes or shoes they wear. Same with snowboarders, wakeboarders, mountain bikers, motocross, etc etc.

Yeah its dumb that we're superficial enough to base our sport around clothing. There are still people out there who do it purely for fun, and the style is just a side effect.

Oh and word to the wise, don't base all of your views on a website, check out some movies and people who ride big mountain and back country, most of the kids on here are mainly park. There's a definete style associated with each of the catagories.

honey, does this mean we aren't going to paint snowflakes on eachothers finger nails any more?

+k

Ill admit it- I like to look good on the mountain, but not if it gets in the way of skiing

Ill endure massive amounts of hate to have fun skiing

i honestly don't give a fuck what people wear, i'd probably be a trend-whore too if i didn't think my money was better spent elsewhere.

i give a fuck whether or not people can back up their claims about how good they are though. you wouldn't believe how many times i've met kids decked out in sick gear, asked them if they ski or board, heard them brag about how great they are, then gone to the hill with them and ended up completely dissapointed with the fact that they think blue runs are sketchy. people buy all this sick stuff just because the pros have it, as if wearing the gear is going to make them pro as well. sure, it's great for the gear industry in terms of profit, but it's not great for the image of skiing as a whole.

Thanks for this post, it shows I'm not alone thinking this..

So much more emphasis has been placed upon how you look going down the ski hill rather than whats really important - the actual SKIING.

I agree to an extent that having some sick outerwear is a good thing, but when people start hating on each other because they don't like the color of a certain pair of pants things get out of control.

Find the balance here guys.

yup hot lunch is the future of skiing, people dressing how they want and skiing how they want, not worrying about having the newest oakley gear that simon dumont wears, doing the most technical stuff you can. its all about just skiing however the hell you feel.

yeah everyone on ns doesnt give a fuck about skiing they just go to see what people will wear so they look good while they are freezing their asses off during the whole winter to look cool, yeah your thread makes a lot of sens, just stop fuckin hating on people who wanna loook good on the slopes, if you dont ok i dont hate on you but dont hate on the other people! comon dude

banff/golden area. PM me if you're ever headed out this way yo, even if you want to knock me off my high horse, i'd still like to ski with somebody from the NS community sometime.

snowboarding eh?

the future of skiing is whatever the hell the masses do. most skiers probably wont go hesh and mess around like in hot lunch. i dunno what the rest of this site does when they ride, but i pretty much mess around wherever i go and jib random stuff, its not new. its not the future. my bad for being a debbie downer.

and teh whole outerwear thing and people being way too meticulous about the way they look, well thats just how it is. if your havin fun skiing why not look good? if you need to look good in order to have fun then so be it, it dont matter.

/bah

haha yea, that was fun, im pretty bad, but whatever im just SOO stoked to ski. idk, i think i like outerwear and stuff bcuz i love skiing that much. but im definitely pretty positive and dont hate

I personally have fun while looking good. I am not going to wear what i wore when i was five. It doesnt matter if skiing has evolved into looks its what it is, a sport. Look at soccer. You dont go out without cleats and in jeans...honestly...Skiing you go out looking the way you want and it just so happens that freestyle skiing involves wearing garb that is "steezy" persay...Football for example has evolved into pads cleats and helmets...Freestyle skiing has evolved into baggy clothes and after bang. LIVE WITH IT!

i dont know, i think people are starting to realize that doing quad flipping 1440's and 450 on triple switchup, 1080 off's really arent that cool. ive noticed alot more people starting to just fuck around and cruize the park rather than treat it like x games training. look at snowboarding, they are way more about being creative and fun now than they used to be.

i don't know if freeskiing is even about baggy yet. sure henrik and twall wear baggy stuff, but guys like pep and most bc skiers are still rocking outerwear that fits properly.

on a side note, last night i saw a fitted g-suit and it looked just as good as a baggy one. not hating on the baggy style, just throwin that out there.

wow i love this site'

it hasnt changed in 4 years everyone still hates on everyone cause they are a noob. hahah dont you have anything better to do all day? its pathetic.

but yea this is a cool site and all just stop the hatee

I'd actually love to ski with you too. I'll let you know if I'm ever heading that way...Let me know if you ever come over to quebec (more precisely avila) we'll shred!

some skiers, I wont name names just to avoid upsetting fragile ear-ed nsers, would not look nearly as good if they didnt have EXTREMELY baggy clothes. if you gave them normal fitting clothes, they would still have all the tricks, but most of their style is in their clothes. the bagginess hides alot of flailing. truth

You cannot be worried about the way you look when you spend all your money trying to ski all summer long on glaciers and in the southern hemisphere, and travel, and ski new places, and meet your skiing buddies all over the world...

I'd rather pass on a flashy new outfit and use the money to buy a plane ticket to Japan and visit a friend.

Besides, the first rule of style is not caring what other people think. If you worry to much about how you're gonna look, you're probably gonna look like you're trying to hard.

well for me, the way you dress is just another way to express your self when your on the lift or in the lift line

Are you kidding me??? Super hesh brahs with tight pants, dreamcatchers, leather jackets and sunglasses is the newest stupid ass style. You think suddenly those guys collectively were like, "screw fashion, I just wanna ski." Its a trend just like purple, gangsta, and brown have been. Hot Lunch is good for direction of skiing for its laid back, have fun skiing but not for its I'm a dirty hippy with throwback 80s clothes.
