I haven't read it, but I intend to. However, in the meantime, I'd like to challenge Skipimp_'s claim that evoking contemplation is 'what makes a good book'. There, in fact, such a thing as art for art's sake, and although I'm a thinker on the whole, as far as art's concerned, I have to say that there's something to be said for aesthetics. Art doesn't have to, nay, shouldn't have any deep meaning. That's education. It doesn't reflect life, we take life from it. Going against these principles ruins great art. Anyways, sorry for my little tirade, I know it has nothing to do with the whole discussion. I'd like to post the entire aesthetic argument, but it's long and would hijack the thread.
