Is Tahoe on track to have another horrible season?

Current weather and forecasts point towards yes, this year will be another horrible season in Tahoe.Bums me out, I'm 6 hours away.

lol west coast. everybody knows Virginia is where it's at.

just kidding, fuck Virginia and our three month season

Well,Colorado has been dumped on,

Wyoming has been dumped on,

Washington has been dumped on,

Oregon has been dumped on,

and California has had one snow storm this year.

The 14 day outlook forecasts no more than 5 inches. So, November man, by December 9th, Lake Tahoe ski resorts will have less than 6 inches on the ground. That to me is a terrible status and outlook. Something is happening with the weather patterns, not sure what, but Tahoe had the driest January-May in 2013 in over 100 years. 2 years ago on Valentines Day Squaw Valley reported a 9 inch base.

had high hopes in sep-oct now come nov 26 and mt rose is opening a bunny hill tomorrow, i think we are in for another shitty season.

What? If anything Heavenly people are in luck since they have the greatest snowmaking ability. Every resort in Tahoe does pretty similar besides Kirkwood. Right now no resort is doing well regardless.

We have had snow on the ground 3 times so far. It takes one, only one big tahoe storm to get the same or more than most mountains on the planet. Looks like next Monday we might have a chance for one of those events. Our pattern is looking good so far, one storm a week plus or minus 3 days. hopefully its not a bummer year but so far so good.

You know somethings wrong with the weather when northern minnesota is getting more snowfall than the west coast.

I still prefer it more spread out though. I know its just opinion but I feel like I still get less skiing/value out of my pass when it all dumps in one month instead of throughout the season.

last year we got dumped on early season then we all know what ended up happening. I'm fine with it being dry now as long as it actually starts snowing once we really get into the winter months

14 day outlook?

really?

chances that a 14 day snow forecast is true is about as high as winning the lottery...

just chill man

the eastern alps were green till last thursday

a couple of my friends went climbing in shirts and shorts that day

4 days later I was skiing waist deep pow

WELL at least you're not getting a total of 5 inches of rain over the next 2 to 3 days. Like others have said:

Dude, it's November

I just moved out of Tahoe after living there for 4 years. Sucks to say, but I definitely think that there has been a serious change in weather patterns over the last couple of years and Tahoe is no longer under that umbrella of deep storms. I guess we'll see though.

Well NOAA prediction this year is for a polarized winter. It will either have a strong La Nina influence, or a strong El Nino influence, and nothing in between.

Sounds like a coin flip should settle this.

the NOAA report they posted said there will be neither el nino or la nina this year... making the winter fairly unpredictable, montana is likely to get more snow than normal and new mexico is likely to get less and those were basically the only forecasts made, and yes tahoe isnt looking hot right now but we all know that two weeks from now it could dump 20 feet so im not writing it off yet

Live the fucking Tahoe bum life and don't even worry if its gonna snow or not. If it snows..go skiing. If it doesnt... fuck it go skate.

my two cents... which none of you give a fuck about.

spent the last two seasons in tahoe and they were by far the worst snow seasons of my life.

granted maybe I got unlucky but if was living in tahoe id gtfo asap!

The storm towards the end of this weekend better deliver, otherwise I gotta start re-evaluating things here in Hood, might have to move back to CO.

Today last year I was skiing Kwood top to bottom in sloppy wet powder. But last year I had to leave Taho around mid January so I was fortunate to enjoy the wonderful December. This year I don't have to travel for work mid Jan-late Feb I'll be here all year unless I run out of money again (its happened before) and need to get back to my moms basement outside Boston.

Also I can't afford my pass for at least another 7/8 days. I'll take a shitty pre Christmas season if we can have a good Jan-Feb-March. I don't have my car or real skis either just some 8 ish year old atomics from a pawn shop I grabbed for 20 bucks so Im gonna fuck them up on rails and in trees and not care.

You can tell I was planning on a slow starting season, you don't have to be Nostradamus to know that it won't be a good early season like last year.

Once January hits I will be crying if the snow sucks and mountains aren't 100% open but for now who cares? I just want a killer Jan-March with a nice base to ski into April.

Lolz, "ski the east"

One storm can produce your entire season.

Precipitation in California right now is more than a fucking good season, it's getting serious. 2013 was the driest year in SF recorded history (I think it goes back 140 yearsish?)

I don't understand the bottom part. Its a good season even though there hasn't been any rain/snow?

I'm going down Reno area to look at colleges. Is it worth paying to go skiing and bring down all my ski gear? Or just spend money else were when I'm down there.

I was stating the drought in Northern California is bigger than skiing.

To previous poster.

It's worth renting a mountain bike it's that bad.

Moved out of Tahoe this past summer. Not feeling bad about it yet, looks like its shaping up to be another shitty winter.

Oh okay, I definitely agree man. It's crazy. I keep wondering how long this drought will last because we have to be in some kind of pattern. 3 years in a row.

Eh, its saved me from buying a pass. Been getting some golf in with the warm weather actually.

Im more pissed that Liftopia is so pathetic in Tahoe. No good deals for anything decent on there. New England every mountain has a nice price break here they are determined to fuck you hard can't even get a day at rose for 40 bucks or nstar for 60 despite the awful snow.

Honestly not worth it as of now. Boreal is the cheapest and a good place for park rats but it's still 40 bucks for a very limited mountain

on record for the worst drought in california history. ya boreal is by far the best. season pass well worth the 200 ( summer price)

HAH so bachy is getting hammered and i drove up for the storm. I needed to get out of buttholesnowtahoe but god damn is this depressing

Spent the last two season in Tahoe and...it's still great here. I haven't seen any of the legendary storms that roll through this way and I'm not too concerned about it. The East Coaster in me quietly remembers, "It'll come." Then I go ski epic parks at Boreal and Northstar or shred around Squaw and drink beer at the Chammy after. There's still 10-12 ski areas here I've never been to.

In other words, I'm fine. Thanks for asking, Pete. Hope Oregon is treating you well.

I'm going to Utah monday and it's 50/50 if I come back or not. 3 winters of this shit is enough.

I really love Tahoe and I've been waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting but it's getting to be enough is enough. Soul crushing, indeed.

come ski alta. got dumped on yesterday. some wind loaded areas were torso deep. hopefully getting another foot this weekend.
