Irrelevant states

My last intention is to hurt anybody's feeling's but sometimes I hear about a state and just realize how much it lacks a media presence and how irrelevant it is to everyday American culture, I know this will probably turn into which state has the lowest presence on this website but which states do you find to be irrelevant? For me I thought of West Virginia and Arkansas

In my opinion an irrelevant state is identified by not having a universally known landmark or concept.

For example. Without Lake Tahoe or gambling, Nevada would be irrelevant. Without the Rockies or legal weed, Colorado would be irrelevant. Without Portland and the hipster movement, Oregon would be irrelevant.

Individuals who live in irrelevant states can often list multiple things that "make them relevant" but to anyone who has never been there or cared, those things aren't know.

Keep in mind relevance is very time and culture subjective, so someone of a later generation might disagree and say that a state is relevant because of X event that happened 20 years ago. But if there is no landmark or permanent relevant item to that state, it dies. For example, in 20 years, legal weed will not be something of relevance for CO and WA.

Connecticut? The United States wouldn't exist without Connecticut. Nor would New York City and cheeseburgers.

Idaho?

Sawtooth Mountains, Selway-Bitterroot, Frank Church, Hell's Canyon, Snake/Clearwater/Salmon Rivers, Kootenai mountains up north, the list goes on. Plus a powerhouse for agriculture, timber and paper, and hydroelectric power.

So this is my opinion post perfectly at play. You from Idaho? I've never been. I don't know what any of that shit is. I think Idaho and I think Boise and potatoes. Neither of which are important enough to me to make it a relevant state.

Some of you may be thinking "CaptainObvious.......you seem to have a very hard opinion about this". No, not a hard opinion. It's VERY subjective and I think about this very concept All. The. Time

Arkansas and Kentucky. Maybe Alabama and Mississippi as well. Kansas, nebraska.

Kentucky? nah bourbon is amazing.

I'm thinking Ohio, Indiana, Vermont, New Hampshire, Georgia and Mississippi.

Now there are some states I dislike but are still relevant. I dislike North Dakota but they have oil so they're super relevant.

I sorta forgot the Oklahoma was a State until I was picturing the U.S. Oklahoma, Dakotas, Nebraska, New Hampshire.

Noone cares about oil anymore the scaremongering about its scarcity has worn off and there is plenty of it around. Some places in the middle east oil/gas cheaper than drinking water. Anywhere dependent on it for their economy is hurting right now.

Ohio wins this contest for me because it sucks so much ass and isn't irrelevant due to size/population but rather just being a shitty horrible place with dickhead cops.

South Dakota would win in the general sense of the thread because Montana, Wyoming, ND, Iowa, and Minnesota the states it borders all have much much much more going on in comparison.

As much I would like to agree with you oil is still very much in demand. The reason oil is so cheap is because the middle east is trying to put North Dakota out of business by flooding the market with cheap oil. It's a long play but we're talking global economic moves here. Seems very relevant to me.

This place has some nice things, but over all, with everything considered, this state blows. I give it a D-

You're correct to an extent.

But for the next 5 or so years oil scaremongering and oil being such a seemingly scarce and in demand commodity will be a thing of the past. Places extremely reliant on it will go through a semi depression between now and 2025 or so. But that will change eventually and there will be a 2008 like gas scare where prices go up and everyone wants to drill left and right.

Boston is a city, not a state

Well obviously, but the terrible drivers from Boston don't just stay in one city. They're all over MA. Trust me, as someone who lives there and who's driven in Kansas.

Seriously what the fuck does Deleware and Maryland even do???

Well I'm from Maryland... and it pretty much does nothing but is still pretty cool. Theres a reason I moved to Colorado haha. Irrelevant to me is pretty much the midwest and deep south. The west is dope and the east is dope.

Yes. Idaho is irrelevant. Please don't come.

But in all reality Idaho is easily the most underrated state.

-Skiing includes: Sun Valley, Targhee (in Wyoming but only accessible from Idaho), Pebble creek is awesome when it's open lol, and Schweitzer is good as well from what I hear, I've never been tho cause it's too far north. There's so many backcountry skiing here as well around the Sun Valley area in the sawtooths, over by targhee, and the pebble creek backcountry is insane as well.

-We have the salmon river which is amazing for rafting.

-fishing is amazing. So many lakes and rivers. We have the largest amount of rivers in the us with over 3,000 miles

-were part of Yellowstone

-here in Pocatello were 2 hours away from alta, snowbird, PC, Jackson, Sun Valley, Targhee and more

-we have the largest wilderness areas in the lower 48 and 2nd in all of the U.S. (Behind Alaska)

But yeah we're pretty irrelevant

Ohio is so shitty honestly, can't say I've ever been a fan of that state, and Indiana to me seems like a wasteland of bullshit and poverty haha. Like Gary?! Who the fuck would wanna live in Gary Indiana?

I agree with you about Delaware...

But are you stupid? Im not even from Maryland and I recognize it as probably one of the most relevant states in the US.

Washing D.C., Baltimore, the Naval Academy? Any of that sound familiar?

You say obviously, yet you got it wrong.

It is possible to be from Massachusetts but not Boston specifically and still be a bad driver. I know plenty of them.

D.C. technically isn't part of Maryland...

If you're going to be a dick, at least get your facts right.

Kentucky is pretty relevant; underrated, but relevant.

-Kentucky Derby

-KFC

-Red River Gorge, home to some of the best rock climbing in the US

- Mammoth Cave, Largest cave system in the world

-Thunder Over Louisville, the worlds largest fireworks display

-Bourbon capital of the world

-Cumberland falls, also called the Niagara Falls of the south, is the only place in the western hemisphere you can witness a moonbow

The kentucky derby is whatever.

KFC is meh. The $5 fillup deals they just launched moved them up in my book, but they're no bojangles, or even popeyes.

And yeah, there's some cool stuff there, but it's one of those states I don't really care if I ever go back to.

Im well aware... but thats not the point. For the sake of the argument, which state would you like it to be a part of?
