iRivers may have been doing this for years, but battery life on the new iPods is 20 hrs vs iRiver's 16, iPods are cheaper, and i have no fucking idea what you mean by plug&play.
Seriously, though, i know some kids that refuse to use iPods cause its apple...they make up bullshit excuses like these and refuse to see the truth. This fat kid in my history class hauls around a 40 GB toshiba gigabeat ($399 at costco) which is huge (7.6 cubic inches, about 70% larger than iPod) and he swears by it. He also rages about the Macs at school all day, so hes a fucking tool.
For the record, i'd like to quote iPod Battery FAQ- an independent site about iPod batteries.
"Q: Why didn't Apple use better batteries?
A: Apple uses the best lithium ion battery technology available from leading battery manufacturers. This is the best, most cost effective battery technology available given the requirements of the device. The lithium ion batteries that Apple uses are no different than the lithium ion batteries used by any other manufacturer, on products from portable music players, to laptops, to wireless phones. The battery should last most normal users the life of the product (several years)."
So why do iPod users go through their 300-500 charge cycles faster than anyone else? Maybe cause the iPod is enjoyable to use?
Sorry, I just had to rant.
