IPad Killer?

Nothing ever brings down the Apple products. There were so many iPhone killers that didn't do shit. Why would a tablet be any different?

Exactly it is being developed by HTC who has really been trying to take down the iphone with no success. I think it will do well with the people who are sworn against apple but it will not even put a dent in the sales of the ipad.

The fact that it is being made by HTC is nice, as they seem to be making the best touch screens phones now besides Apple and the Droids, but if you have to subscribe to a data plan that would be bad.

because the only people that bought the ipad are the ones sworn TO apple, and bought it because of thee little fruit on the back of it.

I hate how when ever apple comes out with the iphone the ipod the ipad. anyone that tries to make something for the same area of the market makes it try to look like the apple product just shittier. Thats one of the big reasons apples always winning these things their products look fantastic. even down to the software. So becasue of patents, when other companies try to recreate it just looks like shittier verson. this tablet their coming out with is gonna look like a cheap knock off. Like even the keyboard in the OS looks the same. Do they not realize if they want to do Apple their gonna have to think of something new not just redo what they've done? that's what I feel like they've been doing for the past 6 years just redoing but worse.

On the other hand maybe their trying to make something that looks like it acts like it so they can hit the customers who can't afford apple products but still want something like it. Still, their just gonna look like the little annoying sibling that follows apple around if they don't step their game up. The droid series starts to do it but the style and design doesn't look nearly as elegant and clean as the iphone 4

really? because they sold 3 million iPads in the first 80 days after their launch, and they've been projected to sell a total of between 7 and 13 million in the first year

I don't know if you know but that was just a sketch of the device. Probably not what it will actually look like.
Also while this is still speculation the hardware thats on this thing totally blows Apple out of the water.
Who said that all these products are shittier anyway? I'd say that Apple products are just 3x more expensive than any other product with about 1/3 of the functionality. More expensive does not mean a better product.
Anyways we'll have to wait on more details before we can really pass judgement

i'd say that apple products do tend to work better. there's also just something about the look and feel of it. having tried/talked to people about quite a few touch screen phones, i have yet to find one that runs as smoothly as an iPhone. obviously any electronics can break, but i feel like iPhones don't glitch out like a lot of other touch screens. and i think branding does have a lot to do with it. people are willing to pay the extra money for apple because, for the most part, you know they're going to work. it's just easer than researching and reading reviews and gambling on a similar product

the iphone has been killed- many a time- its just that dumbasses continue to buy it-shit the fucking nokia n96 had more features than the iphone 4 and its a 3 year old phone
and this is a google product- wich means its going to kick the shit out of anything on the market- even their browser destroys all others
but i do love my mbp- its just the iphone and ipad that are retarded ideas

check out this thing

dual 7 inch multitouch screens, runs windows 7, looks sick

toshiba_w100_1.jpg

as for the chrome tablet, it has potential, just look at how android overtook the iphone so quickly

I simply would like to politely disagree with you here then. Mostly because of the fact I do not see a valid argument in your statement that "apple products just tend to work better"

too bad it just sold out :(

there are many phones out there that "kill" the iphone. the term "iphone killer" is pretty outdated nowadays.

in my opinion, the dell streakk owns the ipad. once it gets froyo, it will take over.

samsung is also coming out with their own 7-inch tablet which looks very promising.

and dont forget RIM's attempt with their blackpad.

lol digimon wasnt that bad it had nothing on pokemon cards and video games but I watched that shit when i was younger pokemon digimon and dragon ball Z fuckin prime after school line up

now yu-gi-oh thats where shit got fucked

true, but google did some damage with droid, nothing will knock down an apple product, unless another company comes along and gets more creative than apple. I still love google products and apple products, but google is the bow and arrow as apple is the crossbow

Only reason the google and droid products did damage was due to the the phone carrier restriction for AT&T. People didn't want to switch and cancel their agreement, so they just settled for 2nd best

This. Once Apple opens the iPhone to other carriers you will see the market share increase pretty drastically I think.

It is pretty funny how people talk about apple fanboys when the apple haters are probably even more blinded. Apple makes some good products and some shitty products just like every company. Why does it have to be a religious war? One product doesn't need to "kill" the other. Competition helps both products improve in the long run.

Agreed. Same goes for computers. Apple destroys other computers in certain media fields, while Windows is leading. The reason for the price tag is because people are willing to pay that hefty price tag for the machine that can do it best.

For the price of my MacBook Pro, I could have the most tricked out computer, although I don't because I need the way it handles all photography. The 8gb ram I have makes up for all

Until people realize that the iPhone drops calls like its job. Number one concern of iPhone users is that it drops too many calls. Remind me again but isn't that supposed to be the iPhones primary use? calling people?
Anyways I think it all boils down to preference. Apple holds its legacy on products that are "sleek, shiny, and easy to use". This is what does it for the typical computer/smart phone user. While some apples products may be "creative" in their design this certainly does not transfer over to benefits the user's creativity. Steve Jobs has tried to push his own moral standards and restrictions on apple products.
However "other" computers have far more raw power and functionality. I think the reason that many people on here are apple fans are that they are media-rich users. This is one thing that Apple does well over Windows and open source platforms.
I guess the thing that pisses me off most is that Apple is the "popular" brand now and thus their product has to be better than the competitions and is the "must have".

Yeah I understand your position. It bothers me too when people buy a product because of hype or marketing when they really could get something more suited for them and in some cases for less money.

It is like when I worked in the ski shop rich guys would come in with the Ski magazine buyers guide and would only be interested the top picks even though those skis were completely wrong for their type of skiing and location. People fail to recognize that buying a lot of consumer goods is a PERSONAL decision and one isn't better then the other, it depends what YOU need. But that will never go away I don't think.

As far as your statement of "Remind me again but isn't that supposed to be the iPhones primary use? calling people?". No, the primary use of the iPhone is not for calling people, at least for the majority of consumers. As an example I have owned my Palm Pre now for a month and a bit and I haven't made or answered a single call, yet I am using my phone every day.

Honestly I don't think that the Iphone was designed for it's primary use to be calls.

People don't call anymore.

Ok I understand what you're saying about how calling people is not the primary use of the iPhone.
However I still do have a problem with the fact that Phone is in the name and they can't even get that to work right

The only thing I'll say that has surpassed Apple in any possible way is Android. And that is just slightly. Obviously this tablet thing is going to suck nuts

Spoken like a person who has never owned an Android phone.

As someone who owned and used nothing but an iPhone for 3 years - having recently switched to an Android phone, there is no competition. It is literally MILES ahead of the iPhone, not to mention ATT can suck my cock for charging $50/mo more for less on my plan.

I'll make no argument that Apple didn't have the best phone on the market for several years, because they absolutely did - but times have changed, it's 2010, and competitors have had almost 4 years to develop products to compete, and they finally have. Any owner of an Evo, Droid X, Droid 2, etc., will attest that they are much better phones. With the caliber of the other phones on the market now, just being Apple branded doesn't make it better.

Unless, of course, you only have half a brain and have to trade capability for mouth breather ease-of-use.

Haha looks like someone is butthurt because they own a droid and not an iPhone. Honestly, until someone makes a smartphone that is ruggedized/military grade, I really don't give a shit about them. I'll stick with my samsung rugby 2.

haha I don't even own a smartphone but I know enough about them to attest that the Android operating system is miles ahead of whatever apple is producing.
Oh and look at the post above yours for validation

a lot of people don't like apple products (ex. billek), so they saw the droid and thought "OMFGZZ LOOK ANOTHER SHINY PRODUCT THAT DOESS SAMEZ THINGZ WITH AA SLIGHTTT INCONVIENCE, DO WANT"

get owned- and nokia has the best os anyway- too bad American cell networks arent hsdpa enabled

Unless your talking about the iPhone 4, don't jump to conclusions. I purchased an iPhone on day 1 when it was release and upgraded to the 3gs and loved it. I paid $10 a month for a service plan through at&t through the family plan along with the $20 media package. Never any complaints whatsoever.

In February, my family switched to verizon so I had to drop the iPhone. I picked up the Droid and had it for two weeks before sending it back. The phone was a pain in the neck to use, the chrome finish around the edges chipped within a few days, and it weighed a brick. I picked up the Eris at that point and had it for about a week before returning it due to how slow it was, battery life, and the flow. Then I had an HTC HD2 for most of the summer and it was pretty nice, strong build, and awesome screen, but it had bad freezing errors and battery life, I went through two of them. About three weeks ago, I got the Droid X before it's release and it was smooth and all, but the ease of use wasn't there and it was having major freezing errors and dropped calls like a mother.

Nevertheless, I just settled with a Blackberry Bold 9700 as it's a reliable phone and haven't had any issues or complaints since. Good email use and does the job.

sounds like you break pones pretty easily then- ive had the g1- the orgional android based phone- for 2 years with no issues
user error maybe?
I think so

It hurts to say but I kinda like alot of the Apple products. BUT there's tons of shitty Apple products I wouldnt buy..

Steve Jobs is a moron.

Their devices are brutally locked up and you cant do what you want on your own phone/laptop. I mean like if you bought a phone, you've paid for it to be your phone but its more like lending it from Apple since you cant do what ya want to. And for the record, I recently got myself an iphone........bah

Doubtful that it's a user issue. User's cant cause errors unless their pushing their machine. In this case then, I'd have shown that these phones didn't have what it takes? All of my issues on my phones were well documented cases of flaws in the phones, I just tend to not like dealing with my phones freezing daily and dropping calls.

cool, a new product I will never use or care about thats going to kill another product I will never use and don't care about.

You realize that moron is one of the most successful geniuses behind the consumer technology revolution right? Do you have any idea what the guy has on his resume?

Yea I've never really spent much time on either, just messed around with friend's phones and in stores. From that experience I'm just gonna say that the iPhone was more pleasant to use (not commenting on the Droid vs iPhone technology differences). But as I said, unless someone makes a smartphone that I can take biking/skiing/hiking and abuse the shit out of, I won't even consider one.

I skii'd with my iphone for 3 years and abused the hell out of it and nothing ever broke, just dont drop it on something hard and you're good
