OK , some = allot. fill me in on the dirt on whistler please. what are the good bars, what are the bad ones. good food? good cheap food. what do you think the top 5 jobs are in the town, what about at the resort. Are there any schools nearby or relatively nearby. whats the average rent for a room things like that, just give me some random info too, anything good or bad you have to say. your help is much appreciated, Jea Im going to make this post in a few more regionals , the person who helps me out the most will win a longboard deck. PM's are good too, thanks Nick

well the rent's gone up to ridiculous prices thanks to 2010. Unless you're loaded, considering rent, season passes, tickets etc., I'd think your best bet might be to work at ski school or something and live at HOUSE, the employee accomodation. I hear the prices aren't too bad there, you can check it out here:

I don't go there much I just stick to the north shore mtns. usually, mostly beacause of the insane lift ticket price. 80$ + food = ~$100. I'd rather spend that money on 3 days of skiing on grouse or seymour.

Can't complain with 200$ season passes at grouse.

My plan is to move up to Whistler in 2011 or 12 and hopefully get some cheap housing left over from the olympics

the best school nearby is whistler high, tons of teens. and definitely go with ski school and live in staff housing, solid plan!! see you soon mate!

if you're willing to share a room for the season you can pay between 400-600$

if not you're looking at much more.

at the moment finding housing is nearly impossible which is what im currently dealing with. my lease is running up at the end of october and i've been looking for over a month for long term housing over the winter season and I have found absolutely nothing. finding a place to live is a full time job if your employer doesnt provide staff housing.

my employer ( a hotel) does have staff housing but they're full. yay..

so im going to be homeless soon unless by some miracle i find a place to live.

the pique (local newspaper) and the question (another local newspaper) have a lot of ads for housing but the landlords receive phone calls immediately and usually the place is taken by the time you get through to them.

try to hook yourself up with a job that will cover your pass cuz if you dont its 1600$

or a place that provides a spirit pass which is 1100$

my fave bar depends on whats going on that night. wednesday nights bills is 'the place to be' but it's mad packed and full of tourists...but still a good time.

maxx fish is pretty much awesome on any night, in my opinion.

i hate garfs but i love garfs when they have shows (i saw dl incognito there)

tommy's is sweet too when they have good shows/djs. its also good on mondays cuz its 80s night and its fun to dress up.

merlins is a pub in upper village and you can get a pint of beer and a burger with fries for 10$.. everyday all day. they also have 10$ pitchers..everyday all day. and have a wicked nice patio at the bottom of blackcomb mountain.

samurai sushi is in nester's and creekside and they have a specialy for 9.75$ everyday which provides a full equipped sushi fusion meal. mmm so good. if you just want some rolls or something you can get two full 6 piece servings for 8$ (my fave is the avocado salmon roll)

the brewhouse has the worst homemade beer ever, and its 17.50$ for a pitcher, ew. DONT DO IT! haha

in the village square my fav place to kick back and enjoy some beers and fries in amsterdam pub but since they had the hepitits A scare i dont go there anymore haha. instead citta's is sweet with their 14$ sake margarita pitchers.

moguls is the spot to go for coffee and loitering...but there are numerous coffee shops around that are just as good.

the best cheap sandwhiches in town are at portobellos in upper village. 5$ gets you a fully loaded gourmet sandwhich that is to die for.

dont do your groceries in the village, it's over priced. try nester's or creekside.

on saturdays and sundays (in the morning to the afternoon) you can find the farmer's market which allows you to buy local produce and bread and other yummy goodness at low prices. these can be found at creekside and upper village. but show up early in the day or else all the good stuff will be long gone.

thats all i can think of for now...

FYI, $1600 for a pass is with P2P, it's $1533 (w/tax) without. It's what I'll be paying this year, unfortunately. Oh, and those are early bird prices. With regards to the spirit pass, I thought person in Whistler was eligible provided they have proof of employment and residence in Whistler, though I could be wrong. Never done it myself. I only live in Whistler on weekends.

Nesters has great panini's at their deli for about $6 that are quite large, filling, and very delicious.

That sweet deal at Merlin's ends mid-November (just before Blackcomb opens), they had the same deal last year. So take advantage while you can.

And personally I really like Garfs, almost always have a good time there. I don't care much for Maxx Fish, perhaps I'm too old for that place. 80's night at Tommys is awesome, and Bills is also good. GLC can be a good time too.

Sounds like the search for a place to live is worse than ever this year. That sucks for all you guys up there. Not sure what availability is like in the Alpin/Emerald area, but the bus isn't really that bad. It really only sucks in the evening/night, which could be a problem if that is your work schedule. My cousin lived in Emerald last year (cheap too, $475ish) and worked at the Dublin Gate. He seemed to be able to make it work.

nothing in emerald, alpine, spring creek, or bayshores.

the only way to find a place now is word of mouth or knowing the right people. checking the pique is pretty pointless now.

two of my buddies who have lived here for 5 years are now moving into their cars for the winter.. thats how bad it is.

im stayin in staff housing and working at the ski school. like everyone else has said staff housing is a place to stay, and its cheap. I have heard different things about it good to bad. As far as food goes, i would say find someone with a car and drive to sqamish, because you could make food runs at wal-mart and save tons of money. Thats what im doing at least, cause i have a car. Seasons pass will be pricey, unless you work for the mnt. then its free and there is perks with it as well.
