i wanna go for a backflip the next time i go skiing but im scared of hitting the back of my head on the jump.

have you guys ever hit your head doing backflips?

what do i need to do in order to not hit my head?

thanks in advance.

I've seen it a few times at Woodward. Happens when you freak yourself out and flip before you pop off the lip of the jump.

Let this thread die. There are a trillion threads on backflips right now...

I did that last year on a mini-ish jump. tried twice, both times got around but was landing very forward so third time decided to really huck it and stomp the shit out of it. me being 6'3 didn't help any. Blacked out when my head hit the lip and came to on the ground with a broken collar bone that had to get surgery/metal plate put in. quick season ender right there

pretty much

and for tips i would just wait for the lip pop hard then flip. and u should get it

unfortunately this is so very true...it's a crazy to watch people who can barely make a turn seem more comfortable on rails and in the air...

i always wanna try a backflip til i read one of these posts and it makes me not wanna try one. i need people to be like oh yea its so easyy haha

make sure to pop and not just throw your weight back. if you have the proper technique youll be fine.

thanks guys.

i can do em just fine on water ramps but i was worried because i saw a post about this recently.

does the size of the kicker matter? at least how big does the kicker need to be?

If you can do them on water ramps just find a jump that is identical to the water ramp transition. That's what I would do.

This kid is right though, Im not saying you necessarily suck, I have never seen you ski but I see a lot of kids who spend hundreds of dollars on jiberish, lrg, saga, all the good clothes companies that cant even do a switchup on a rail..

do it off a bigger jump. give yourself the time to rotate without having to huck it so hard you smack your head. a 10-15 footer would work just fine.

I tried a few backies on a jump that was 3.5ft tall, with about a 10ft gap, and you would get like 5ft of air. I would lay it out, spot the landing, and then as soon as I saw it I would land right on my face/head. This happened on almost all my attempts. Any tips?

Tuck, don't lay it out. Also if it's a realllllllly small jump it helps to point your skis up as much as possible

Try a wackflip/ almost flat 3 first if thats your main concern. Both of these tricks are similar to a backflip, and you can use them to work towards a 'straight' backflip.

they are super easy. just don't be 6'3 tryna huck one on a super mini ice jump unless you're spriggs or something. I think they're on par with 3's in difficulty. just make sure you're going to be doing it on a decent setup.
