Im on the phone with this navy guy...WTF!

Watch yourself.

The US Armed Forces are DESPERATE for pretty much ANYONE to join, and will say and do things that are definitely unethical and borderline illegal in order to get you to sign on that dotted line.

The recruitment tactics they use are ridiculous. They'll pretty much flat out lie to you if they think it'll get you to join, in part because there are quotas, and recruiters get paid more if they meet them.

Do whatever you need to do to NOT go to that dinner. And if you do go, don't settle for anything less than $100/person, and DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING.

Unless you feel that time in the armed forces is something you want to do, which is noble and all, but once you sign, game over, you're in.

the army called my cousin and this is how it went:

hello?

hello this is the us army! have you ever considered the military as a career?

uh, no

well why not?

because i hate to run..and i'm kind of fat

oh..

yeah...

well how about--

*click*

she's actually not fat, she just said so to get out of the army.

A top secret sect of the military specializing in black ops contacted me concerning enlistment in a transgalactic fighting force.

just tell people you're thinking of joining a different branch, even if you're not. they won't do anything, cause at least you're in the forces.

"Hi, this is Sarge from the Army, I am wondering what your plans for the future are?"

"um, I was thinking about signing up for the air force, my dad and grandfather were both in it."

"well good for you son, proud to have you in the force"

End of convo

my cousin knows all about the military and he has a perfect recruiter voice, all hard and stuff. so one day we just called all his friends trying to recruit them and asking them such personal questions. like he called this kid who is the biggest pothead and he asked hiim if he ever done any drugs and hes got all scared and shit and is like uh n-no, sir. then were like, "son, are you high right now." and hes just shitting his pants.then we would ask people if they ever had sex and they would actually answer it truthfully then would would keep going farther like have you ever had sex with a guy, or a dog, or a squirrel. and everyone answered real. then we really started pissing some kids off and they got all sketched because we somehow had there cell phone numbers and they had no interest in the military what so ever.

First off, for those that don't know, there is a provision in the No Child Left Behind Act that requires high schools to submit the information of their students to military recruiters. Unless you contact your principal or the like and tell them to take you off the list...

As for the rest... Well, this may be a surprise, but the military has recruiters for individual areas of the country. It is their job to find people that want to join the military. Yes, they call your house and ask if you want to set up a meeting so that you can talk and they can tell you about all the opportunities that the military has to offer. No they are not going to rape you when they come. No they are not going to trick and con you into signing your life away. If you'd talked to him and told him in more certain terms that you didn't want to meet with him and have no interest in joining the military, you wouldn't have this problem. If you didn't want to be a pushover, you shouldn't have agree at all.

Just about two weeks ago the Marine recruiter called my house and we basically had the same conversation, except I said sure, I'll meet with you and talk about a potential future in the Marines. So he comes, we talk for 1-2 hours and he leaves. I made my decision and let him know. He was perfectly honest about everything and no, he didn't even mention signing anything at all. They do not try to force you to join! It's just a waste of their time, they have other things to do...

Just stand up for yourself and tell him "NO!" I wouldnt even want to waste any time having a convo with them personally, send him an email or something and cancel so you dont have to talk to him lol

I also have tremendous respect for members in/of combat(esp wwII vets)

BUT in this war, how can you say a solider is laying his life on the line for your saftey. That is clearly untrue for this war if you ask me.

Purely Puppets.

take bong rips with him at 6!!!. or better when he comes to ur door act all sketch and open the door just a crack and be liek did u come alone? good. ok man u wanna shoot soem h with me

if you fucking dont like it here dont live here and if its not that you dont like it here be proud of the people that stand up for your freedom they put everything on the line for you and bitches like you dont even appreciate it go live in darfur and see how nice it it is to not have a strong military

how the fuck can u say that? its your fuckin coutnry these people are risking their lives for. show some fuckin respect u bitches

you dont hate the people in the army, unless of course they heard about this war and were like "sounds like a great idea, lets go find some wmd's and spread democacy". you hate the government that is sending them there. hell even if someone chooses to go, although retarded. fight the govy not the people. its sad that people either feel that they are needed over there or they are forced to go (not physically)

my gf's dad retired from the army when canada was going over to afhanistan cause he thought it was an unworthy cause and very immoral

you are letting your political views get in the way. when we singed up (military people) we rose our right hand and swore to uphold and defend the constitution of the united states against enemies both foreign and domestic. This is no questions asked. In our country we have civilian leadership of the military. the military does what they are told to do, that is why this country has the greatest army in the world. our foreign policy right now no doubt sucks. no one respects us. that is a result of the policy that the leadership that you (probably mostly your parents, young site) elected into power. dont go blaming our situation in the middle east on the military. And they are defending you whether you chose to acknowledge it or not. we are fighting a war on terror, though it be ambiguous in some aspects, the army navy airforce and marines are out there fighting against people who do not believe in our way of life and more radical ones want you and your family dead (remember 9/11?). just remember that the military is doing their job and that recruiter, as persuasive as he may be, is just doing his job. hate the administartion you elected, not the men and women who sacked up because you wouldnt.

and nantucket was never funny.

Do I sense a Bush-lover?

First off, never once in my post did I mention anything about hating America. I'm disagreeing completely with the use and morality of this so-called war on 'terrorism'.

I'm saying that the U.S. has no need for a fighting army of able men and women, against a threat which is unrecognizeable from any other regular person in that area, and these terrorists which are such a small fraction of the some 7 billion people in the planet, pose no serious threat to mass american lives.

9/11 was an exception of course, but then again, with your morality those planes should have been full of patriots and would-be soldiers to take those bastards down!

Congratulations on siding with the now unpopular government, which, has sacrificed 3494 innocent lives (http://www.icasualties.org/oif/), and wishes to deploy MORE people.

Or think about it this way; Take everyone you know, and take about 1/3 of all the people all those people know, and you have roughly the amount of soldiers that have died in Iraq. How would you like all your friends and family dead?

Thats what I was thinking. It wasn't even a recruiter just some guy posing as one to come kid nap you! seriosly.. just reading that gave me that interpretation. don't let him into your house and have your parents home at that time..

something about stating that our government has sacrifices 3494 lives screams stupid to me. Could it be perhaps that those people were not innocent? This may be a surprise, but when you join the military, you might be killed! No one is forced to join the military right now! Also, of course we need a military? What is a better target for terrorists than a nation that can't defend itself? Some of the posts in this thread are just ridiculous... and yes, I think Bush is a better choice than Gore and Kerry. Hate on me all you want, i'm not afraid to take heat for my beliefs...

sounds like a true liberal.

how would you like your friends and family dead? what kind of question is that?

last time i heard, our soldiers volunteered.

you post is so assuming of many things.

a.i did not elect bush into office(recently turned 18)

b.i dont understand how you assume i am a conservative seeing as you claimed i elected "this leadership", when my previous post was anything but a rw idea.

c.im not blaming anything on the soliders, like i said before, they are puppets/pawns for a vicious government.

d.who gives a rats ass if "i didnt sack up." why would i risk my life and life of others for something i am totally against?

but anyways

Like i said...i have tremendous respect for the soliders...i guess more than anything, i was saying the foreign policy sucks. anyone solider has my respect(minus the racist/brutal nuts we often hear about). i meant this war is in no way benefiting us or saving our lives. fact, 15 of the 19 hijackers were from saudi arabia...so you cannot go and use 9-11 as an example to justify this war(afghan that is)(along with 100 other things) afghanistan was just the us's foot in the door to get to iraq.

Ohhhhh I get it nowww... So you're saying that the soldiers volunteered to die...

It all makes sense! Our military is suicidal! Thanks for clearing that up that justifies their deaths suddenly.

No. I believe many soldiers joined the military with these things in mind:

1. College. The military offers the whole $60,000 or whatever it is now for college after 4 years of service. This would be especially appealing for the slackers, procrastinators, and highschool or college drop-outs(like my brother).

2. Money. Obviously this is a large incentive, because its relatively easy to increase your wages in the military by progressing through the ranks.

I don't believe the soldiers joined simply for the 'red white and blue,' but for reasons more economical and educational.

You also said in your post that if we didn't have a powerful army, then we would be an easy target. Again, I disagree. Suppose we had a branch of the military called something like... Militia. Or homeland security. Or coast guard. Or border patrol. Or the right to bear arms.

=O No! Not a DEFENSIVE army! That wouldn't protect us! We gotta bring democracy to them, dammit!

No. We do NOT need a giant offensive army. We need to get the hell out of a country that already hates us enough.

you are a very patriotic person, aren't you?

so are you one of those guys who would cut off his trigger finger to get out of a draft?

it's a public service. you can't stop somone from joining the armed forces. so what if the fucker gets huge. the more the merrier.
