So as the title explains i am going to the University of Montana!!!! its going to be tight and i was just wondering a few things. First wat are the best dorms to try to get into? Second is a 100mm waist ski good for the conditions out there? Third are there many newschoolers out there? Thanks a lot.

I lived in Duniway, it had small rooms, but I had a cool roomie and met a BUNCH of people. I would say Craig is probably the best dorms and usually has the coolest people in it.

The two tall dorms arent that good, one of them is Aber, can't remember if other one is Jesse?

Yea a fatter ski is probably better out here. There are some decent parks too if you are willing to drive a bit. Snowbowl is a blast on a good pow day. If you come to Missoula for school though, you should def plan some trips to Big Sky/ Moonlight and Whiteshish over the winter, save up some money so you can travel too and you will have an absolute blast.

thanks a lot. i tried to get into Craig but im not sure yet. as for CrazyA, we will have to get together some time and ski. im worried about only skiing with a bunch of idiots that dont know wat skiing is all about. i need some newschoolers out there!!!

for sure we will get together and ski man. I hope you don't mind backcountry and cliffs. And yeah I already got a dorm room... I'm in Jesse.

Ya not a lot of newschoolers at U of M. I go to the University and its badass if you meet the right people to ride with.

Come on Dever. You know better than this.

LT is very underrated. And Big Mtn (as it is properly known) has some sick stuff.

Everyone coming to UM next year...

when you figure it out, tell me what summer Orientation you're going to go to. I'm one of the winners that runs them and it would be fun to meet you.

Also, if you have any questions, let me know. I've been here for 4 years, have had 4 majors, 3 minors and skied my life away. I've lived in 2 dorm rooms, 2 apartments, 2 houses, and 2 sororities (don't ask how that happens). I'm in a billion student groups and am having a really hard time with this whole "graduating" thing. Basically, I love it here and know a TON of random information.

i am really excited to live closer to snow its going to be tight but i dont think i will have my car next year because i cant afford it. Will it still be easy to get out skiing if i dont own a car? I figured that because skiing is so close to campus that it wouldnt be very hard but i still didnt know if it was a big thing, like i could just grab a ride with different people. and does snowbowl have a park at all?

Snowbowl doesn't really have a park but there are some good backcountry stuff you can find in the mountains around campus, Lolo specifically. Alex Buecking is working his ass off to start more parks in Montana, so hopefully soon we'll start seeing the fruits of his labor. He's a former UM student, formerly Rogge's roommate, now living in Bozeman. He's doing good things.

If you don't have a car, it shouldn't be too hard to get up to the mountain. There are tons of other skiers you'll meet, especially if you use the contacts you find on NS. Finding guys to ski with is a LOT easier than finding girls, so you're in luck. Worse comes to worse, all you need is to get to the mouth of the canyon up to Snowbowl and you can thumb up super easily (not that I condone hitchhiking).

some one will always pick ya up if you stand on the road with your thumb up to go to the bowl. Losttrail is 2 hours away and has a pretty fun and good park. thats the closets park skiing i think

if you know how to ski well snowbowl has no need for a park.

the place is sooo underrated, so half assed when it comes to anything, and soo the most fun mountain ever. no one gives a fuck, the bar is filled with people you know, and the terrain is good and steep.

and since it's like that you can find snow for weeks after a storm, launch all sorts of stuff, and have a good time in general.

if you want park lost trail is close enough. but man you're missing out on the best thing in montana

craig was my first choice, but i will be in aber 308. should be sick!

im so glad that i know of some NS's who will be out there.

yeah I'll be a freshman next year. I'm in Jesse. But yeah, so next season I'll have to shred with some of you guys

i have connections haha. no i know like half of the park crew. and they came to the last comps and took tolls on what the kids want next year...so judging on what everyone told them to add, it should turn out good.

well, bigger jumps, no roller coaster rail, quarter pipe, bigger park, no gaper runs hah, better jibs, allowing only freestylers in the park, better judges in comps, you know whatever people want

Yea I told them to make bootier jumps that give you more hangtime. I told them I thought the shark fin is stupid. Setup more flat rails/boxes in a line. Make the jibs/jumps progressive.

yeah it would be dope if they just had two or three big jumps with good speed. i hope they don't do a quarter pipe, that would be a waste of time and energy.

I WANT TO SKI SOME PARK! if there is no park near me i will build my own! i might need some help because im semi lazy but really i need some kickers so ya its manditory

i was planning on MSU but i got money to the UofM and its better for my major. but i know it would be sick to go there and ride bridger all day long!

i will be more than happy to build a booter anywhere. put up a rail someplace, but im not that great at park, but i will hit just about anything.

well i do want to ride park so im not sure what your getting at. i know briders park is pretty weak if thats what your saying but i just like to get a little in every time i ride. just like two or three laps would be fine with me. but more would be good too

Ok, a couple of things here.

Missoula has the sickest skateparks in Montana right now. One outdoor concrete one that is huge and two indoor parks. When I went to college there, they had one indoor, now you have three parks you lucky SOB's. You guys better start up boarding or blading because its always something you can do for free in that town if you are bored and aren't motivated to go try and ski. You can seriously ride a bike anywhere you want in that town.

The winter break at U of M is like a month and a couple weeks long, so you can either go home and ride your home mountain over christmas and just ride all the park you really want if they have a park back home. Or after christmas with the family, you can do some traveling or come back to Montana and go up to Whitefish or Big Sky or even Lost trail. Im not sure exactly what all Snowbowl does for a park, I haven't been there in a few years. I know that there are alot of jibbers in Missoula (mostly snowboarders) so if you just ask around to find out where the good jibs are you will find something nearby. It also depends on how much snow they get in MIssoula. there are places within like 5 miles of town that you could build booters up on some of the hills if you are motivated enough and there is enough snow.

Its a great school and a great town.

^I love the town of missoula, I have family there. And I don't think getting motivated will really be an issue

i mean, do NOT ride park at bridger. its NOT worth it. if your at bridger, the ridge stuff slays, but if you want a variety, with some park laps, go to Big Sky. they have everything.
