supposedly snowbowl owner just signed a contract to have a sponsored park. at least 3 weekends. moving around 'til they find the spot.

Having a car, if you can pull it off, is very helpful to going skiing more rather than less.
 
im a junior in highschool this year but me and my friends build the freestyle team park, you can join the team and hit all our jumps we have a big jumphill
 
how do you know your roomie already? yea i was lucky and had a good roomie. I forgot that Miller hall is a badass dorm too, so check that out if you havent.
 
they actually told me who he was about 4 months ago. it was so early and it still kinda is but ya he is a d bag
 
i emailed mine about a month ago with no response yet. its so hard to just say hi in an email for the first time whatever and it not be weird. i hope he responds and is actually cool and skies.
 
my roommate is from South Dakota... and he snowboards a bit.. he doesn't seem horrible. But k2steez if you need someone to ride with hit me up man. I'll be on the hill everyday i can

Boys, you gotta realize there won't be much park action without driving. but for most people, an hour or 2 to the hill is standard. Lost trail, and big mtn, offer up the best of both worlds, big mtn is probably the most legit hill in montana. it might not have the vert of big sky or snowbowl, but it's by far the best mix.

lost trail just has awesome snow, and a small park. it's too flat to ski if it really dumps except in a few select locations, but the vibe is pretty mellow, and it's cheap as hell.

I really had no problem skiing the bowl all season last winter, and rarely felt like skiing elsewhere. I never once had to dig a booter all season, and was able to find plenty of natural terrain to jib.

If you're going to bring only one pair of skis with you get a pair between 90-110, depending on what you'd rather ski. bigger for back country, and steeps, narrower for park. but get something with rocker to make up for it when it does snow.

after one season at the bowl i found myself wanting a pair of all mountain non twins as well. I'm going with some atomic savage tis this season because the end of jan thru feb can really suck. use that part of the year to rock park, or in my case, learn how to rip everything in shitty conditions so when the snow comes back the rest of the season you can just go off.

and lastly, everynone else. Let's get a real newschoolers party this year. preferably right before premier season starts.

so let's start thinking about locations, and make it a gong show.

yo man i am a missoula native of 20 years and snowbowl native of 13 and have been fortunate enough to call it my home hil,, i attend the univeristiy and am glad to see some more NS comming our way.Please feel free to message me anytime you want to ride or go check out what the surrounding areas have to offer, i am always up for skiing with new people who share the same passion, and like that guy said way easier to find ski homies than hot chicks to hang with!! so message me and ill show you what missoula gots
 
I'm considering transferring from University of Vermont (I'm a junior) to UM, but I don't know if I want to trade off the like 10 mountains all under an hour from where I live. But I'm still looking into it...
 
Left out variety. Should have said good variety of skiing. I live in Great Falls btw which is pretty much equidistant from Bozeman and Missoula.
 
Never skied over there though. Snowbowl looks decent but everyone says its super crowded. Lost Trail looks super sick though.
 
haha crowded? I have never waited more than 3 minutes for a chair ride, and thats on the weekend. weekdays the place is dead. the fight for first chair is usually between about 4 people.
lost trail is fun, but sort of a mellow pitch. the locals there know how to rip though, and if you follow them around it's easy to find sick shit to slash.
you have to work a hair harder at the bowl (hike) but if you ski bridger then you like hiking.
 
well amigo, you have a place to stay, and i promise you will get drunk, party your face off, and shred all you want if you ever head missoula way.

Wildlife biology.... not many schools offer it as a degree major. UVM has an awesome wildlife program but I am sick of UVM.... so I'm looking for somewhere new.
 
well I went to orientation and all, and i got a chance to go look at snowbowl... it looks like a pretty decent local hill. It's not as big as the resorts I ski at in utah, but it looks decent. I also heard lost trail is good, and big mountain as well. So what i gotta decide is wether or not to get a season pass to snowbowl or not..
 
you won't regret it, but i suggest doing a week day pass, and then traveling on the weekends if you have the money for it. otherwise just get rude at the bowl all the time and chase storms when it's good else where.

I dunno i'm easily amused when I ski

you'll for sure want to make some big mtn trips. but those are best on weekdays too.... untracked snow all day is sooooo regular there.
 
I really wish i knew about UofM about a year ago. i would have been applying like mad probably..

But if anything i'll definitely be trying to get in come springtime... stokeeeed on the possibility. Even with a little bit of a lack of terrain park, i'm definitely not going to cry about it... I can always fly back home to california for christmas and shred park there if i realllly want to.
 
yeah the great dirty is fun if you really want park close by, and super cheap. it's like under 20 bucks for a lift ticket for their first month as well. i need to visit that place more often, maybe i'll feel like some park this season.

u of m's winter break is like 6 weeks too. plenty of time to go anywhere for park skiing. longest winter break i've ever heard of.

you should take a look at MSU too three mountains within 45mins and they all rock no lines and tons of snow i cant count how many days last year i skipped class and got blue bird powder days and it was like having the whole hill to myslef moonlight, bigsky and bridger bowl are all such a great time. anyone who goes to U of M should come over and check it all out and hit me up when you do.
 
I was thisfuckingclose to going to MSU as a freshman out of high school, but my HS gpa was too low for the WUE, and the california instate fees, and budget were much better back then, so i focused on transferring to either San Jose or Sacramento out here.

I checked bozeman out the winter before i graduated, and it was super legit, but kinda a small town - back then i was more interested in a city. Yeah, it had great skiing for sure, but my parents definitely werent going to allow me to go somwhere where i'd be tempted to ski all the time - which i definitely would have haha.

Now, 3 years out of high school, i'm ready to transfer, and the california budget dies out, and Sacramento State recinds me because the budget cuts. The fees go up, and the classes are less available. It would take me like 4 more years to get thru college out here. I'm over it.

SO, i get filled in by a friend on the WUE, and find out that UM has a banger ass program for broadcast journalism, and sweet programs for filmmaking, and marketing/advertising. All three are majors i've considered in the past for sure. So I applied as soon as I could, a few weeks back, and i'm crossin my fingers hardcore. I'm also finding out that Missoula is a fucking sweet ass town, and i'm going to be stoked if i get in this fall/spring.

I will find out in about a week-2 if i'm in.. in which case i'm going to need to rush quickly to find housing, and get everything else in order. I'm aware they do have orientation right before school starts in august, so i should be all set for everything by then.. but its all going to depend on a few factors. If I dont get in this fall, I'm going to just go to JC for another semester, finish an AA, and pad my GPA so I can go into the spring super solid and ready to jet.

Also, i'll be able to work at my current job and get some potentially banger El Nino pow skiing here in california over break if that be the case. So even if i dont come out till february, or whenever, i'll still be set to roll. Regardless of everything, I will be in montana no doubt, by Fall 2010 for sure.
 
AWESOME! montana is such a great place to go to school and ski, good luck on getting into the U of M i hope you do. missoula is a sweet town i have almost moved several times the only thing keeping me in bozeman is bigsky and bridger bowl i just cant leave such amazing skiing, biking and hiking. this winter looks to be a good one and all of NS should come out here and ski such good times.
 
1. you'll probably get in, my gpa was a 2.0 when i transferred. how long ago did you apply? they got back to me in less than 2 weeks... Being pesky and making phone calls also works at u of m, last year i told them i was broke and they found 6 grand in tuition money for me.

2. housing is super easy to find, craigs list is the shit, allthough its fucking hard to find dudes to live with, so expect to live with girls. which is fine. (seriously, i don't think guys use craigslist that much for housing there, you'll see posts like "4 girls looking for dude to even the house out")

3. it's one of the top journalsim schools in the country. good choice.

4. in cali right now as well, fuck i hope el nino happens.
 
yeah.. i know my GPA is good enough.. its just that i applied about a week 1/2 ago, and I'm an out of stateer.. so who knows at this point. I applied about 3 or 4 days after I had found out I was recinded from the CSU's until they have more space opened up for more students, or the budget improves... I wish i was told last january that that was going to happen, i mighta found out about UM back then..

I'm probably going to spend the first semester living on campus if i can, just because its cheaper and I might as well experience it. yeah.. being 22 (come october) in the dorms is gonna be funny, but I'm sure i'll be able to get away with a lot of funny shit because of it, and at least i'll be on campus, so I wont have to use my car to get me anywhere, but maybe work and skiing.

and yeah... they have a bomb ass journo program, and it looks like thier media arts department (what i'm really interested in is actual filmmaking) is pretty sicktor too.

and if el nino happens the one year i fucking leave california i'm going to be pissed off hahaha. I'm definitely going to drive home to tahoe over break if it ends up being a strong effect el nino (which shouldnt be the case with this one right away, since it JUST started brewing about 5 months ago, but still, you cannot predict el ninos for shit)

Any idea on how hard it might be to get classes so late? I think i'd have to take a few prereqs to get into my program (since california JC's had their film stuff cut ages ago.. how does that make sense right?) and I probably need to get a math out of the way, and whatever else montana requires to graduate...
 
The dorms are funny. I always make it a point to befriend kids that live on campus for 1. free cafeteria food 2. dorm mayhem. I've done wall rides on my bike in almost every hall of every dorm, and walking around with a mixed drink in hand while all the underaged kids stare is hilarious. until I make them realize if they aren't dumb they can do it too.
and if you're a transfer student, they usually make you register during transfer orientation. it's not that hard to get in most classes, and the lower level ones are super easier to get in. as far as math you'll just need A math course.
if you don't hear back by the end of the week, just shoot out an email to the registrar people.
 
haha yeah.. how is the food there by the way? I'm not very picky on that shit.. as long as I can stuff my face, its sweet.. but is it at least alright?

Dorm mayhem... after going to a state school in california for a year here, i know all about dorm mayhem haha.. especially where i went to school, because we had coed floors, and the RA on our floor for half a semester let us do whatever we wanted as long as he didnt get in trouble haha. crazyy ass shit went down son. we used to have wars on rival dorm halls and throw smokebombs in their hallways at 3am just to fuck with them... thats always a classic move...

as far as walking around with drinkage - i cant wait to be 22 years old, and in a freshman/soph dorm or something.. haha. that would have to be hilarious times walking around with handles of bacardi all the time like it aint no thing.

and yeah.. i guess transfer orientation is right before school starts right? I'm not worried about getting my classes really... if anything it will be a bilion times easier than it was out here in california.. shits wack out here for classes to begin with. and i'm sure theres room in math courses for me haha. there always seems to be room in math courses.

I checked today and made sure that UofM had everything they needed from me to start evaluating, and they did... so hopefully it will only take them like a week or so to get back to me so i can get the ball rolling on everything else i need to do...

Cant wait to find out. it should be fun.
