I’m getting audited

Hate to hear it. If it's the larger one it'd be your fed....probably.

The people that I know that went through audits said it was stressful, but at the end of the day the people doing the auditing just want to clear it and move on and we're polite enough in doing so. Now to be fair those were friends who worked normal jobs, didn't do illegal shit and just had small discrepancies.

I know some 1099 people who would not do well in an audit. Had coworkers when instructing who would report not only their ski gear, their spouses a kids as business expenses and report s loss every year.

its wack because in both situations the IRS knows exactly how much you owe/how much you should get back, yet they force one to file their own taxes and then slap you with an audit. Its like giving a 5th grader a college math test, they're setting us up for failure.

Lol. They don't know if you're taking the standard deduction or itemizing your deductions. They don't know if you've been divorced or filing jointly. They don't know if you purchased a home and have a mortgage, or if you've have a kid.

Literally all of those things depend what you owe or what you get back.

you dont write off anything unless you make over $100k, you just take the standardized deduction

document your mileage , burning gas, buying brand new vehicle is the best way to beat taxes...... (sad but true)

i know a contractor with a 2500hd, license plate says 0mpg, because its a write off....

imagine defending the IRS, those are all things that give the citizen more money back so of course they want to make that more difficult, you could literally send them a short questionnaire and they could take care of 90% of peoples taxes.

when it comes to reported tax income, they know it all, you're suppose to determine your adjusted income that dictates your final tax bracket, it's all a racket.
 
Sure its an audit and not an assessment? They are very different: an audit is showing all the papertrails and an assessment is running the numbers you supplied to the irs and see if they match.

i get assessed at least 3 times a year and I make about 60K.

You've clearly never filed your own taxes before if you think they can know everything you owe without asking questions about everything you can put against your income to pay the least amount you can.

It's not their job to give you an amount and make you pay it, its your job to fight the system and get back as much of your own money as you can.

bro you are literally forcing yourself to make an argument and its pathetic as fuck. the IRS know exactly how much income you make (unless you dont report it of course) and knows exactly how much you owe/are owed. The IRS gets lobbied to keep it this way so that CPAs can get paid and the government can spend less (albeit, a fraction of the overall budget). This is a fact, not something you can argue. The government should be doing our taxes for us, its backwards as fuck.

I respectfully disagree, the IRS will help you with your filing (within reason). There is also a short form called the 1040ez which is designed for the 90% you described.

you're completely missing the point. doing your taxes is easy as fuck and if its complicated you can probably afford a CPA, its just bullshit that the goverment is pawning off work on private companies and citizens when it should be handled by the goverment, they just don't want to take 1% of budget and put it towards it. The IRS essentially exists to check peoples taxes, why not just do it for us and then we have no problems? just seems like an assbackwards 19th century type of system that could be completely changed by technology and money.

If the government did our taxes for us, how would the wealthy be able to use loopholes to dodge paying their taxes???

On a real note once I get my money up I can assure you I’m never paying this shit again, taxes are insane. $15 from every Colorado resident is $100,000,000 annually. The tax rate here is about 20% of your paycheck, we are talking billions of dollars annually for one state, enough to pay 1 million people 60k a year. And I know for a fact there ain’t 1 million state employees, and I know for a fact teachers don’t make that much, or that the money goes to infrastructure. Kids gotta pay for their own lunches at school, if you start running rough numbers you realize this shit is actual tyranny.

You might want to look up what you're actually paying for, taxes go towards lots of good things too and that shit is expensive, and that's not mentioning the billions we spend on military alone.

the lack of transparency in america, is what caused my lack of faith in our own government. i dont like paying federal taxes currently, because i disagree with our current president, and in the past years how fauci controlled our country with lies and fear during the pandemic. i will pay my taxes, although (brain fart) if you didnt vote for the president elect, you should be exempt from taxes for that presidency term.... lol

the military does use the majority of our budget, the elected president makes decisions for the country.... but IMO, the elected presidents are not elected by the people, but by the world government. pay to play style, (IMO) and trumps insurrection wasnt a shitshow, it was a forfather battle for freedom....

in colorado, there should be transparency over every tax dollar, especially cannabis sales. every tax dollar should fund schooling, and teachers salaries. but instead, politicians use shady funds to get re-elected....

Log on to the system, be asked any if there are changes or under the table money you need to report. Fill out those forms if need be but otherwise you're good. Auditors still have their jobs as nothing really changed for them. Just catch people lying still.
