why the hell does just about everyone hate america? do you realize how good we have it? if you dont like it, LEAVE! go try living in burma, china, north korea. all i ever see on NS is bitching and moaning about how much america sucks. and im so sick of it, i realize we are not perfect, but no one is, we have done so much good in the world!

Its because people are starting to realize, that while its in a robber's interest to steal shit if he can get away with it, and it increases his standard of living, that doesn't make it morally ok.

Supporting a system that systematically steals the earth resources from its poor inhabitants, just to increase your own standard of living through kickbacks, makes you an asshole supporting one of the most basic manifestations of evil that we have in the world today.
 
America is such a great country. Our constitution was so progressive and reasonable for its time period. HOWEVER. At the current state of affairs, we have the worst leader in history, a congress who does shit, bills which destroy our rights, corruption gang banging the citizens left and right and 2 terrible and unjustified wars. If you knew anything about this country, you would realize the government is here to SERVE the people. The majority of our founding fathers hated government, and wanted to provide every mean possible to protect the people from regimes which are currently in office.

I won't disagree that here in America we are very well off and are one of the best places to live on the entire planet. But it comes at a heavy cost, what good comes to people here is sucked from other countries that we are exploiting endlessly. While things are and will continue to be good here, we are a huge burden on the planet, we use too many resources for the size of our population. America is a great place to live but we need to stop using so much of everything. Not everything needs to be so big, ride your bike places, get outside more, don't use so many things that you don't need to use. It doesn't seem like much but any little bit can help

Then Don't Ski. Skiers drive to the mountain for unnecessary recreation, ride gas powered lifts(mostly), drive snowmobiles, leave fluoro carbons in the snow to pollute and poison, etc, etc.

Also you can't ski on K2, Volkl, or use Ride snowboards because they are mad in China. A virtual third world country. Oh ans ski construction is very bad as well using harmful chemicals and glues. We also cut down oxygen producing trees to you as core materials.

Don't bitch if you aren't willing to make changes first yourself.

 
So I can't live near some mountains and ride some gnar fucking powder? I can hike it, and regardless, there are sustainable fuels that would work just fine for lifts and transportation, but they're harder to monopolize so those in charge aren't interested. There are sustainable ways to make skis. A sustainable world doesn't mean living in a cave. We have good technology when correctly applied could give us all great lives.

Especially the ones that work in sweatshops for 10 hours a day for $1.50 that they use to buy food that they used to be able to grow themselves for a fraction of the labor they do now just to stay alive.
 
Except 1.50 is more than many people in those countries make and many of them would do ANYTHING to have such a job in a factory instead of searching through trash for a living. There must be some exploitation of workers in order to make globalization possible. Call me retarded, but its you who haven't looked at both sides of the problem.

Yes the situation is bad, but its nieve to think that taking away our sweatshops and factories is going to solve anything.
 
You're delusional. These people 'want' to work in a factory because this system has destroyed most of the natural wealth of their communities, and the rest is owned by rich corportions. So now they have to either live on the street or work in a factory, but thats not a choice people should have to make, its designed to be like that. And they still end up living in urban ghettos anyway.
 
it seems like some of you have forgotten...hitler was VOTED into power. The people put him where he was, and once he was there, he abused the power terribly. But you have to realize, Germany was so bad at the time that the people wanted to a better, stronger leader, and hitler was that leader. I think he did a good job leading, but only in the way that he united an entire nation that was facing tough times and huge economic problems when he was elected. I am NOT saying that he was amazing, or that he was a good leader later on, but initially he did really well to reunite Germany.

But come on, putting him on the same level as George bush? come on, George Bush may not be well liked or anything, but i would hardly put the two together like that. And in any case, there is a major difference between the two...that being the fact that George Bush will soon be out of office, and not by resignation or anything.

I dont like it when people wont say the pledge in class, its really annoying, theres a whole bunch of russians at my school that are all really proud of themselves, which is fine.. but really you live in america and yet you disrespect by sitting while everyone stands, just get up and pretend to say it like everyone else.. Let's all just make small stpes towards conservation - do what you can.

Here at Queen's we've been having an energy saving challenge to raise awareness and it's really working well. We can go online and see how much energy we've been saving this month in comparison to previous months just by doing simple things such as turning lights off in unused rooms, not using excessive amounts of water, turning computers off at night, taking shorter showers, using light from your windows instead of the electricity... all such small little steps but they actually do make a difference. The winning residence gets to donate the money saved from using less energy to the charity or their choice. We've been promoting (extensively) the consumption of fair trade coffee and educating people about what it is and how else to be conservative; buying more environment friendly foods/packaging, using travel mugs instead of disposable Styrofoam and the likes ( we have even been giving out free travel mugs to everyone interested as well as having a discount at our coffee shops to refill a travel mug instead of a disposable one). We have one coffee house known as the Tea Room, where everything is very environment friendly, biodegradable, fair trade, and even use composting worms for the compost/garbage. Queen's Hillel, a Jewish society began a program (anyone can now participate) where the food made by the cafeterias which is not used [and still in the trays, obviously] is picked up every night and brought around to different homeless shelters as well as in a van station for the homeless not in shelters to come and get a free, hot meal.

These are just some very small steps towards making a better way of living for everyone and raising awareness for those who have no idea.

We are trying, and some people just need to start caring more and maybe doing a little research about topics we aren't too sure of.
 
haha sorry dude there is no such thing as a gas powered lift. In very few cases they run on diesel, but thats only at very remote resorts where its cheaper to do that than run very high voltage lines to the lift. nice try though.
