If you won $3 million, would you give it to your local church?

so im sitting in jiffy lube getting my NYS inspection and as always, cnn is on the tv. the reporter comes on and asks that exact question. my answer was hell no. im not religious, but even if i was, i wouldnt give a church $3 million. the story was about some guy that had a $3 million lottery ticket and without any hesitation, he donated it to his church in NY. the church will get a little over $100k a year until 2028.

heres a link i found on yahoo:

thats pretty cool, i respect the guy because he's so dedicated to his church and what he believes. but for me im not going to a church at the moment so nope

good thing he did it without any hesitation, because if he thought about what he was doing that $3 million would have gone in a very different direction

nope, i'd buy a boat, truck, house on a lake by a mountian, and invest whatever was leftover. then from the dividends I'd give some to some church maybe but not all 3mil.

Hell no. I'd keep a million maybe 2 and retire to the sweet life then give the rest to charity or maybe give $50,000 to random homeless people on the street.

a while back there was a priest around here that won the jackpot and even he didnt give all of it away to the church. I hear he's got a nice house and rolling in a maserati now

at least give it to a legit charity or somthing

fuck i bet hes gonna regret doing this in a few years... or days

absolutely not. although, i'd make a point of illegally parking my brand new Aston Martin in front of a local church... fuck organized religion.

If you wanted to donate it to someone, why not a charity that feeds starving people. There are underfunded diseases. The fact that he donated it "without hesitation" is not a point in favour of the decision; you SHOULD hesitate, and consider who needs that money most. That being said, donating it to a church, which probbaly does do quite a bit for the community, is way, way more generous than 90% of the population would have been, and so the guy clearly deserves a lot of credit. For myself, the answer is no, not to a church, but I've always said that if I came into a whole bunch of unearned money, like winning a couple million, that half of it is going to charity. Probably something involving the aforementioned starving people. But since I don't play the lottery, it's pretty unlikely that that will happen. Whatever, I still give to charities anyway. Just not 3 million dollars.

Why would he want to feed starving people who belive in the wrong god?

And I'm sure the church doesn't do a damn thing for the community except ask for more money every Sunday.

Id give 20k to NS and thats about it. Maybe something for real charity if theres anything left after some time

yeah id give my chruch some but not all of it i would have had to scratch off the silver part i think thats worth 2.5 million and then theother 500 thousand i would split up between church and this heart study that is trying to cure the desise that almost killed my grandmother

actually they used to encourage it. if you commited a sin you had to give a certain ammount of money. that was a while ago though.

that guys a fuckin idiot the last place i would give momney is a church li would prolly keep it and if i had to give it aay id give some poor lil nig a sandwhich i would probably tear down the church and replace i with a slam ball court if i could do wat i really wanted

what a waste, you could do so much with 3 mil. Start a company or invest it or something, that guy is a fucking brainwashed idiot

Only problem with that is all the homeless will buy all the drugs, and that would mean no drugs for anyone else, and they would still be on the streets.

I would keep it and live off of it. Still work though because I doubt these days that 3 mil would be able to support you for the rest of your life, unless your like 50.

Fuck, 100k a year until 2028? You could get your college degree, then just have some easy job that brings in enough money for food and rent and save whatever extra until 2029 (id be 30). That would kick ass. I would keep it.

So basically you're saying you don't know anything about churches? Except, of course, the typical stereotypes and stuff you learn from seeing sound bytes of televangelists.

you are one dumb motherfucker. there is no such thing as believing in the wrong god. and churches do a shit load then just service on sundays. im not religious at all but that was just stupid of you to say.
