Do you think the war in Iraq is a good thing? Are you willing to die for it?

The more I think about it, the more it becomes evident. If George Bush is re-elected, there is probably going to be a draft.

There is no way in hell Bush would ever think of announcing a draft pre-election, or even slightly hinting at one. Members of congress had brought it up because it is probably the only way to make the situation in Iraq 'work' But the bush administration was quick to silence them are reasure everyone that no, there would be no draft. Bush knows announcing a draft would be pre-election political suicide. But after the election, well what are people gonna do? Nothing, we are shit out of luck.

Previously, the draft was a noble call to duty, to defend ones country. Parents and Grandparents were PROUD to see their sons off to WWII, even hanging stars in their windows to commemorate a family member killed in action.

The draft became less palatable during Vietnam, when much like todays conflict in Iraq, the motives were sketchy, and a realistic goal not in clear sight.

Ask your parents, or grand parents if they would be proud of you if you died in Iraq.

Consider this, of all the childeren of the members of Congress, only one is on active duty in Iraq. In essence they said hey lets go to war, but no, not with our kids.

Piece it together, the armed forces are already spread thin, the reservists can't continue on fighting the fight forever. Today it was announced that 3,600 troops that were stationed in the boader region between North and South Korea are being relocated to Iraq. As currently projected US forces are going to be needed on the ground in Iraq until AT LEAST 2006, that is if the conditions in Iraq remain stable, but the developments over the last month and a half seem to point at anything but stabalization.

Do you want to die in Iraq? Do your parents want you to die in Iraq? No? Then you should register to vote, and vote for Kerry.

some good points but i really don't see the draft really happening.

my idea is for everyone to just go fucking ballistic about it and make an online petition somewhere and tell friends, family, animals, strangers, niggers, jews, etc. to sign the petition

I havent really looked into that possibility that much but would congress really approve a draft? I am almost sure no voting aged person in the country really agrees that a draft would be a good thing. All of our parents lived through the veitnam war and I think they would clearly see that a draft is a horrible idea.

Rastafarians believed Ronald Reagan was the Anti-Christ

^There are people ON HERE who have stated in no uncertain terms that they support the prospect of a draft, so I assume there are a few voting people who would be for it.

A draft will not happen. There are plenty of enlistees and enlisted soldiers right now to cover this war for a long time. I know in the Air Force they are cutting airmen out early with a early out program and palace chase which is getting out of active early to go guard. Two of my buddys are doing and early out program at the moment. There are no current stop loss programs going on either.

I have been saying it sine people starting posting about it. THERE WILL NEVER BE A DRAFT AGIAN.

Chris Knight : So, if there's anything I can do for you, or, more to the point, to you, you just let me know.

Susan : Can you hammer a six-inch spike through a board with your penis?

Chris Knight : Not right now.

Susan : A girl's gotta have her standards.

^dude belive me I hope you are right. There should never be another draft.

Hey but check this out: JUST IN:

Powell admits there ARE NO MOBILE labs in iraq, and that no there never were any to begin with. Quote “At the time that I made the presentation, in regards to the wepons labs it reflected the collective judgment, the sound judgment of the intelligence community. But it turned out that the sourcing was inaccurate and wrong and, in some cases, deliberately misleading.

Check out this link for the full report.

Deliberately misleading.... HUMMMMMM so now why did we go to Iraq again?

Bush got one thing right WE BROUGHT THE FIGHT TO THEM! Now, all the poor, impovershed radicals in the middle east that couldn't get their shit together enough to attack the US directly can do the next best thing, blow up our soldiers and civilians all over Iraq!

YAAAAY!!!!!!

Way to go George W bush.

And don't tell me we went to Iraq to fight terrorism in the first place. Not a single terrorist in the 9/11 attacks came from Iraq. They were mainly Saudis. Heaven forbid we do anything to them though, they have 1 trillion dollars invested in OUR stock market, thats probably around 15% of the entire market, and no we don't want them to get cold feet and yank that money now do we? Or worse yet turn off the flow of oil.

LOL, there's actually talks in White House going on reinstating military draft from 70s. Do a search on google and you will find plenty of articles to support my claim-
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=38139

Military Draft is unconstutional because of of Amendment XIII- 'Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Sorry im not 18, but i would like to say something about the draft.

The draft now would be irrational, they have no reason to start it up agian, we have plenty of reserves. So i dont think you guys will have anything to worry about.

When they begin talking about the draft it seems like people finally realize what this war is. Our brothers our going over to die for a war that we didn't need. Am I saying that I would rather have Saddam in power then the current situation? No, but at what cost. So many great people are dieng in this war, people like Pat Tillman, but for every one story you hear there are 200 more you will never hear. The possibility of myself or anyone I am closely in touch with dieng out there makes me sick and that is why I will vote for Kerry. Bush has mislead you and before this is all said and done I believe we may see an impeachment of one or more people in the white house.

.

Voting for Nader is not a good solution. Voting for Nader (Someone who has absolutly NO chance at ever becoming president) takes away needed votes from Kerry, thus getting George W. Bush re-elected.

Think about it twice if you want to vote for Nader, does another 4 years of Bush sound like fun? No, then do the responsible thing and vote for Kerry.

I love how you don't even register yourself for the draft anymore, the government does it for you. When I turned 18 an unexpectntly got my draft card in the mail, I was pretty pissed. Not because I wasn't going to sign up anyway, but because the choice was taken away from me.

SeanHolmz: Why would they talk about reinstating military draft if there's 'plenty' of troopers in Afghanistan & Iraq? That doesnt make any sense at all.

Usa's financial business is fucked. When you have unemployement, you say don't worry, the economy is boomin, we'll survive! Then when more people start getting more jobs AT LAST, you say 'at this rate there will be no more jobs in America! OMG!' and the market falls...once again.

NOW why the hell should a country that can't even handle their OWN LAND well take up on other countries business and be 'the World Police'. Seriously, rebel against your leaders..or you're fucked, and so are WE ALL.

What Jibtech said about the Saudis is true. No 9/11 ists came from Iraq, but a lot cam from Saudi Arabia. The US didn't do anything though because they have the $$$ and the oil. If Bush messed with the Saudis he'd be in an even worse position than he's already in.

As I've posted before, the Bush family relationship with the Saudi Royal Family goes beyond business; they refer to the Prince as 'Bandar Bush'. He was in the White House the day Bush first returned there after 9/11, where the president promised to turn over suspects of being involved with the incident.

Kerry is definetly the way to go, he may not be the best canidate, but if he doesa get in office he will most likley do his best to end the war in Iraq as soon as possible, where as if bush gets elected who knows how long we will be there.

As for voting for nader, Nader has openly said he runs to take votes away from the Democrats...why would you want to vote for someone like that?

On other notes if Bush is reelected you can say good bye to any chances of getting abortions and who knows what other common place things he will take away because 'god tells him too...' or whatever his excuse is. and the saudis have promised they will lower the prices of oil right before the election.

I have also heard that if the draft is reopened that they will make it so noone is exempt meaning if your married or going to college it doesn't matter your going to war anyways.

I know what I have said is not acurate to a T, and lots of it is second hand(but mostly from my PolySci teacher), but this stuff is scary.

^scarier than ACL's?

how do you motivate a troop of kids who just got drafted completely against their will? my friend tom is in the army in iraq right now, and he has always been a bush/military supporter, and even he thinks it's bullshit now. i still doubt a draft will happen, but if it does, what are they going to do to motivate me to fight for a cause i don't believe in? not to mention the fact that i think the man at the top of the chain is a complete fucking idiot.

if i don't make it to canada, i'm milking my hyperthyroid disease for all it's worth. and if that fails, then dishonorable discharge here i come!

I did support bush, but he has gone too far with this war, lets get out of iraq asap, but if we did that, another regime(sp) would set in, and maybe a terrorist regime, but another draft would be unconstitutional.

I support Bush in the war in Iraq, and most of you dont realize the consequences if we pull out. For those that didnt approve of going into Iraq, its too late now, we have to finish what we've started. And yes, i would go to fight in Iraq, and yes it would be an honor to die for your country, wherever you are. To those who dont feel the same, think of the thousands of men and women who gave their lives to make the United States what it is today, and do your part to keep it for your children.

^Bush hasn't gone too far in this war. He knows that you have to finish what you started. Clinton just dropped a few bombs on Iraq to do a little intimidation, or, show the American People he wasn't afraid to take action. Bush knows that no one has finished the job there and backing out would have wasted almost everything that they ever did there.

Draft is still a possibility, but is likely and unlikely for reasons. Likely because we have to spread manpower across such a large area to protect against terrorism. But we don't need the draft like WWII to just throw men into a beach. We have such machinery and operations that most of the drafted people would most likely be for work with helping the soldiers, say communications, engineers, hospital medics, all that.

So if there is a draft, times and war tactics/technology have changed and we dont need men to fight we need men to function and the enlistees are proud to fight.

What evidence do you have that a draft would be initiated? The concept of a draft is ill-suited to both modern warfare and contemporary politics...in short, it doesn't make much sense.

Modern wars are fought by relatively few, well-trained soldiers equipped with the latest technology. Throwing America's schoolboys onto the desert in Iraq isn't gonna help the war much, and it will damage public opinion at home.

Like most 'anti-Bush' (not pro-Kerry) arguments, I find your claims unfounded.

It's actually surprising how close we are to a draft.

Living in the USA, we all get a feeling of invincibility (see the above post), since we do in fact have the most powerful and technologically advanced military in the world. But that doesn't mean anything if we have so many troops deployed to so many different locations in the middle east. Our forces are stretched thinner than they should be, and that does warrant a draft.

The solution to altogether avoiding the draft would have been not to go to war in the first place... or, at least not try to take on so much opposition at the same time. Now that we're stuck with it, though... even Kerry might see a draft as necessary, in order to make sure we still have a strong reserve that isn't committed to the middle east. So don't count on him being a draft-proof alternative to Bush.

He's still the best choice for those with the safety of our nation in mind, though. Even for people who voted for Bush last election... I really don't see how voting for him again can even be an option. Iraq was and still is a total disaster. It's time to swallow your pride, look at the facts, and think about the future of our nation.
