as of now the US is in political turmoil. even if Kerry get elected whats he going to do in iraq? he cant pull our troops out, he cant nuke em, his options are limited. because what the public wants to see done isnt what might be best for the situation Bush has put the country in.

for all those who think we have plenty of reservists and people willing to fight where are your sources? i truely would not trust any gov't website or even a national newspaper. our gov't has been known to give out false information in order to keep the public tame and happy with what they want to be happening. take for instance the supposed 'weapons of mass destruction' Bush never stopped skawking about. our country is in itself a lie and a never ending stream of media bullshit trying to mold the publics minds into what the gov't wants it to be.

I don't know if you noticed but the whole world is overpopulated, not just the U.S. Yes, I have heard a lot of talk about the draft and I am so glad that I didn't enlist in the service. Right now, I am in college, so I doubt I would get drafted. More than likely, the U.S. isn't going to send all of it's college students to fight. Anyone who is just working and doing nothing will probably have to go if the draft is started. It really sounds like it may happen.

And WTF is going on with all of this torture bullshit?! We are wasting so much time and money, when we should be focusing on ending the war. We can deal with that stuff when the war is over, it's not just going to dissappear from the records.

Yeah, i'm not happy with Bush at all, I personally think we need to change our system. It's not all his decision anyway, the senate votes on just about everything that takes place. It's not like Bush is running the whole country by himself. I dont believe that we should even have a president anymore.

Sounds like I should def vote for kerry though. The last thing I want to do is see myself or my friends to Iraq.

First off, I would like to point out that the last just war Americans fought in was at the beaches of Normandy. Since then wars have come down to the dollar. Second, the rumor about a draft, is a rumor. We will know for sure as it gets closer to the election, but if the draft doesent become in effect it wil remain a rumor untill time carrys it away. Personaly, I think (or at least in my area) 18-20 year olds are to caught up in there lives to care about defending their contry.

During WWII there over 8 million in the armed forces by 1946. maybe its just me, but thats a bit higher than 101,000 or whatever it was.

What i'm trying to say is, we are all on this earth together, and out of human stupidity we have become to overpopulated. Too many people means too many different opinions on what is right and what is wrong. It's impossible to keep control over everyone. This world is fragile, and some stupid person or groups of persons could destroy the world quite easily. i.e. a nuclear war, biochemichal warfare, bombing large cities, causing massive pollution.

Life can be easily destroyed all over this earth. The U.S. understands that so we try to keep everyone under control somewhat. So in order to solve this, all of the nations need to work together and help each other out. There is no need to rip on another country for reasons that are not in our control. If Canada WAS attacked for some reason (don't act like it's NEVER going to happen) Who do you think will help them? THE U.S.!!

It just pisses me off how all of these canadians think that they are in the clear and don't have to lend a hand when The US may need help. Don't count on me ever doing anything for your country if you are going to be so ignorant.

I didn´t say that you should start a war with North-Korea. I just said that those troops is needed in Afganistan and North-Korea. North-Korea and Al Qaida are the biggest thread to world peace.

 
for the people that say the americans will not stand for a draft...Americans will not be able to do anything about the draft because the average american does not have the resources to go to the government and get the draft stopped, and the families that do have the resources don't do anything because it is easier for them to just get their kid exempt from the draft, rather than fight a battle against the government.

So yes the americans will not stand for there to be a draft but they will not do anything about, execpt have a couple protests and make a couple of petions...but the government does not care about any of this.

They barly listen to intrest groups and the americans that are affected the most be the draft: poor people/working class. they do not have the funds to support an intrest groups that will get the job done.

According to reports on MSN, the Mahdi militia numbers about 1000 total and there was estimated to be 5000 insurgents in Fallujah in April, causing 100+ US casualties.

Lets say you have 10 000 people, about the number of drunken rowdy males at a Flames playoff game. Armed with nothing more than semi-auto 22's and flaming Alberta whiskey, this rag-tag group could fight a successful guerilla campaign against 150 000 US troops plus tens of thousands of coalition troops, costing $5 bil a MONTH and lasting at least 2 years. Pretty pathetic considering the US spends more on its military per year than every other country COMBINED. The US has a pretty sappy military record anyway, goose-stepping into ww2 when its pretty much over, straight up getting spanked and crying home from vietnam and now crumbling to a bunch of fig-eaters with AK's and grenades. Bush should change the US national anthem to Metallica's 'King Nothing'.

However effective fearmongering has been in convincing you that you, personally, will be killed by terrorists, most of us up here are grounded in reality, and realize that noone will attack us if we don't give them any reason to. Also, noone will kill us if we don't go over to where they are and give them an easy shot. They are, additionally, far less likely to do so if we send them food and things of that sort rather than killing them. In fact, the only major reason other nations might have to be annoyed with us is our close association with the U.S. You guys aren't always a help as far as foreign opinion goes, you know. Canada is not going to fall victim to any attack needing military aid to repel at any point in the forseeable future. Ugh, 2am. I can't write at this point.

unfortunately, we have already given them ample reason to attack the U.S. The united states has always been the perfect scapegoat (justly or not) for all the problems that have plagued the middle east. When peoples are oppressed by totalitarian regimes who behead people for speaking out against their government, the focus of their rage becomes the omnipresent but never correctly represented United States of America.

Regardless of what we do now, the threat of terrorism still remains due to sentiment that has been ruminating in the minds of some radicals in the Middle East who have managed to convince the young and naive to do their distructive bidding.

Unfortunately, it's not as simple as: US withdraws from Iraq = threat of terrorism eliminated.
