Ian Compton joins Nordica

Please provide proof for your wild speculations.

Or alternatively you could shut your mouth and stop being a fucking moron.

I saw this on facebook and had to look twice because i couldnt believe it. We will all deeply miss him being on the Traveling Circus!

If your skier and making 4-5 grand from a ski sponsor your more then stoked.

You sponsor gives you 5 grand and your fucking pumped. Now you need to buy a plane ticket across the US last min to film urban for 3 weeks. Lose $1,000. Your sponsor asks if you can fly to Europe for 2 weeks and do a comp. Lose $2,000. Now you need to make a trip from CO to Mt Hood for week session for your sponsor. Lose $500. So with three trips (one big, two small) your money is now gone, and your using a credit card.

More or less you NEED to have a job seasonally that pays well, or a cool job that allows you to take time off. ONe other thing to think of is when you get paid. Some times it takes months to get your money and your fucked using your credit card.

If you want to be a pro skier get a good job for 6 months, a credit card, and a sponsor that is cool.

So this wont spin out of control I'm not talking about Ian or anyone I know.

This was 100% made up situation just to give an idea to people about what a non-comp skier makes, and spends.

And just wanted to say that I think Nordica has started to turn around and make some good moves hooking people up. Sucks Ian is gone from Line but things change, and he is still my friend.

i dunno if you recall, ian was still on ninthward when TC started. Or maybe he wasn't even on ninthward yet. TC was well established before he joined the crew.

Sick to see so many people talking about all this! I think everyone will be hyped on the footage that comes from the teams trip to hood in the next week or two.

Nordica I have to say you guys have been on fire lately. Your banger team has certainly created a lot of publicity for your skis and for once in my life I am actually buying a pair. Dem Soul Riders are just too good to pass up

I already had big respect for pro skiers for their hard job and I knew that it was not the job which is paying the most, but now seeing what you have wrote, u guys fking rocks!

to all of you who are bumming on this:

you should be stoked for Ian. He deserves whatever move upwards he was offered, from any company, and having Evan, one of his best friends, as his manager, is a great opportunity. I'm not afraid to say that I prefer Line as a brand to Nordica, but that's not to say that the guys over at Nordica aren't awesome dudes and that Ian isn't going to do just as well there as he's done at Line. Ian has been a part of the Line family for the longest time, but he's still a young dude and things change.

There should be no animosity between Ian, Line, or Nordica and their respective fans because of this.

And yet he left Line because Nordica offered a better deal...

Line is a fucking joke and they have no respect for the amount of business their athletes bring in.

Line Traveling Circus only started receiving money from Line when they got that van. They are notorious for not giving shit to their athletes beyond a couple pairs of skis a year.

Nordica is one of the rare ski companies that understand the power of sponsored athletes and they're making Line pay for being such cheap shit heads. Good on Nordica, fuck Line.

BTW that was an oversimplified post but ask anyone who was previously sponsored by Line and not anymore and they will tell you how fucking pathetic that company is in dealing with their athletes.

Also I think kids would shit themselves if they found out how scummy and little money companies are willing to put up for their biggest advertisers- aka their team riders, aside from the top 5% of "pro" skiers.

the industry in general is bleeding money right now. props to ian (and any other athletes) who manage to get a pay bump amidst this shitstorm.

if you want to see your favorite brand do more for their athletes, get your ass away from the computer, get an extra job, and buy some brand new gear in october at full msrp.

guys tc is a bunch of pizza people that ski ad nut themselves constantly, and is a great starting place for every skiier and they are all very talented people, but after a while living in a van wont cut it. not to say tc is bad or anything but yeah.

im gonna go out on a limb and call you a retard.

atomic

k2

nordica

volkl

dynastar/rossi

head

definitely all in the same category. and line is headed that way as well. But right now they aren't because they don't market anything other than twin tips.

Clearly that costs money but what he is saying is that having a sponsor or two gives you the ability to be on the hill, whether they are paying for your ticket and pass or the money they gave you is paying for it.

false sir....

line's new sick day series is very marketable to the non-twin tip rider because its not really a true twin. as a company, k2, Rossi, Head, and Volkl are MUCH larger entities. Also, if you didnt already know this, K2 owns line, full tilt, and acquired volkl/marker in 2004. Rossi is probably the largest ski manufacturer in the world with headquarters in multiple countries, and Atomic is owned by one of the largest sports companies, Amer sports, which owns a slew of other ski brands.

while nordica is owned by the tecnica group, they remain a relatively small company. i believe youre mistaken what i mean by my statement. Nordica has a large footprint in the ski community, however, as a company, they are very small.

need not reply sir.

Your fucking crazy if you think Line doesn't want to sell ski's to any one else but jib kids. They have been targeting a larger overall audience for some time now. The Prophet series has been VERY popular with the regular ski crowd. Not to mention people looking to charge with the Influence lineup as well as the Mothership. And as PNSkier mentioned, the Sickday series is targeted to people who aren't looking for a multi-directional twin.

One time jack was blacked out and he told me he made out with a guy in the parking garage behind jackalope but he didn't make him his boyfriend or anything so I don't think hes gay

Inb4 Ian is in a TC episode and subtitle reads "the traitor"

I don't care what skis Ian's on I like his skiing.

never said they werent marketing to non jib types. But ONLY making twin tips ONLY appeals to a small section of the industry. Even if its just barely a twin tip or whatever.

Not really, the twin tip is not some magical animal. Everyone is on twins, and I would barely categorize the tail on the Influence, and Prophet as twin.

Until the Bonafide came along the Prophet 100 was among the favorites of the Epic Ski crowd.

Hahaha what? I know plenty of groomer slashers and racers who prefer twins to directionals (as a groomer ski in the racers case)
