Anyone have any good stories of parents or onlookers that said this to them because of their skiing activites?

When I was a little one mom wouldnt let me ski because she thought it was "dangerous"
 
Every fucking time my mom does this. The first time we went to Vermont, she about lost her shit seeing the places from the roads. She never skied. Can't even imagine if she saw places out west we've gone to.

Oh and my girlfriend naturally told me one time to "have fun! Break a leg!".....wtf no haha not something you say before an activity that could very well happen.

I also love when I get shit for driving through a snowstorm to ski. "just wait until it's daylight to leave and the roads are clear. There will be plenty of snow to ski all day. It's not safe to drive in this" .... Anyone who says this clearly has never experienced a pow day before. There also will not be snow all day.

Haha thats too true about getting shit for driving in a snowstorm. To be fair, it might actually be a more valid concern because you probably have less control of a car on snow than you have over yourself with skis on snow.

my mom says im not allowed to go off jumps in the tricks park so i go off the little ones by the metal bars when shes not looking
 
The only friends I have are nerds, so when they see a dumb rail edit, or me biting into the rail in a disaster they ask if I’m still trying to kill myself.
 
There are times when its good to live in a seperate state than your parents. Mom currently dont have a whole lot to say about skiing nowadays but she did tell me not to break my ankles trying to skateboard

Apparently when I learned to ride a bike I told my sister not to tell my parents. And they were listening and watching from the

I was pretty good at toning down what I would tell them though. I'm surprised they let me do some shit in the backyard though. At one point I had a 4.5' evil knievel style pallet ramp to the mellowest hill. I think I started getting trampolines after. I never went through the terrain park much with my dad, mom doesn't ski, and I they never took me to the skateparks.

Sorry, just remembering the better times in life. Ah nostalgia to being 9-11 on a shitty bike with kick brakes.

On the way to mount snow once I had a tire blowout. I jokingly was talking about how sketchy my car was and made things sound pretty unsafe. My friend was talking to his mom on the phone and repeated things I had said. His mom made me stay there while she drove from alb or saratoga all the way to bennington area. I didn't even end up going to mount snow because my vibes were dead and he obviously didn't because he had to get in the car with his mom and roll back to NY with her bitching at him about being safe or whatever.

Sucked because we were going to film some dubs and the jumps were perfect and sunny and bluebird. Maybe it was for the best because I don't exactly have the best track record with dubs or spring time mt snow laps.
 
I remember one of my friends had to get off his bike to cross the road, even though we lived in the country and there might be nobody coming buy for several minutes. I think he was like early teens before he stopped doing that. Me and my parents disagree on a lot of shit but at least they let me do my own thing a bunch.

The threads on here of people getting grounded because mom saw a video of them doing a backflip or whatever. Some of yalls parents are fucking psychos. Best of luck!

Thats how it is Dads seem to be more accepting. I did tell Mom that there are plans on building jumps and setting up rails in the yard and she didnt get it. I said "oh You know, do stupid stuff on skis....."

One thing my parents never understood (they learned to ski in their 30s) was that that ski edges are super sharp and the point of contact is way more controlled than human feet on the ground. Metal sharp edges that are millimeters thick contacting snow allow you a different level of control like a surgeon controlling a scalpel.

Last march Marks mother showed me a video of you doing flips AND YOU DIDNT EVEN HAVE YOUR HELMET ON!!!!!!!!! I COULDNT EVEN BELIEVE IT!?!?!?!?!? You told me you wore your helmet all day. And then WHAT DO I FIND OUT?!?!?!?!?

it took one jump (concussion, broken ribs, punctured liver) for my ma to say no more jumps... had to tell her all slopestyle comps were rail jams, no idea how she never caught on
 
My parents don't want me to do big mountain offpiste or to try flips and they'd rather not see me do rails either so basically I'm not allowed to do anything. But they know I do anyways I guess and it's not as if I got in trouble after I showed them my backflip attempts

My parents have always been very chill about my skiing/skating/biking/etc and trust my judgement regarding my own safety. This season however there was one time I called my friend to come ski with me during a snowstorm on what would be one of the best pow days of the season. Just before leaving to pick him up, I get a call back from his step father on his phone demanding to talk to my mom or dad. The dude ended up trying to convince my parents that they were irresponsible for letting me go skiing in a snowstorm and told them that they can't let me go. My dad basically ended up telling him to stay in his lane and I skied alone. My bad I guess for worrying about friends on a pow day and offering a ride. I am now just more grateful to have chill parents.

PS: It was my manual transmission that got me to the mountain. Driving in snow is dangerous if you're a retarded cheekykunt and have no feel for road physics or the way that a car works.

Tell me about it. I work in a ski resort sooo everytime there's a snowfall she kills my phone.. (She's like: Be carefull!! Don't go out, there might be avalanches.. ) and its like 4-5sm fresh snow.. whaat?? But this season she decided to visit.. could not get worse.. Shaper guys just finished up the new jump and we were just doing a test, she went mad, went home packed all my stuff and tried to make me leave saing : Is that what you've been doing?? Are you insane?? You are going back home!! Im throwing your skis right now!!.. It was so embrrassing.. hapened right in the middle of a ski resort.. infront of everyone .. But my dad is cool!!

A manual is perfectly safe if you aren't a shit driver and can actually rev match properly. Rwd with decent tires is a blast in the snow if you know what you're doing.

A manual car is safer in bad weather or in general because you have more control imo.
 
You absolutely have more control. It can be more dangerous for an inexperienced driver in bad weather as there is potential to lock the rear wheels when trying to down shift
 
Both my parents have skied their whole lives and my dad is a freestyle coach, but my mom has always lost it because of me driving in snowy conditions, even though my car has 4wd and winter tires.

My only ski related story involves having a friend throw a nose butter 3 over a knuckle into one of the "steeper" runs on the hill. On lookers thought that what he did was "stupid" and questioned "why would anyone do something like that". Some people man.

Oi fuck erfff ya bastard. I have a Subaru automatic but if I want, can do the fake manual that they've been putting in new cars these days.

Snow tires or decent tread, 4wd, awd, or even front wheel drive, and common sense and you can drive in just about anything minus select mountain roads. Don't drive too fast. Leave enough distance for braking and you'll be fine. Only problems are when visibility is super low or the snow is so deep that my car isn't high enough to drive through. Drove through Erie this year during one of their mega snow storms and visibility was 10 ft or less at times. That was scary. Only thing I will avoid if possible is ice...as in pure sheets of ice after freezing rain.
 
When I was 11 my mom came home from work to find me with a homemade jump and table top platform for my bmx bike in the front yard, all she said was "Don't get hurt" and walked inside.

45 minutes later, I jumped a little bit too far and landed with my back wheel only on the tabletop and fell about 5-6 feet down onto my front wheel. I landed with my chest on the handlebars, shattered my sternum, and compression fractured 6 vertebrae. T-1 thru T-6, with T-4 being 35% of its normal size. I was in the hospital for 3 days and a robot looking back brace for 4 months.
 
I was at my cousins house then my aunt drove me home and at the time i was trying to get my cousin into skiing and park (success). Then my aunt asked what I even do on skis and I told her about park and how I did a backflip. She then told me "you know that the bible says your body is a temple and it should be preserved". Ironically this woman is quite over weight... so much for preserving that temple.

My parents are both pretty chill. My mom doesn't care as much as my dad though.
 
Parents literally made sure to drive wih me in snowstorms when I was learning so I would know what I was doing

And let me drive to go ski whenever I wanted in pretty much all conditions

my parents refused to buy my season pass the year after I tore my MCL so I became a ski instructor got a free pass and skied every day until the lifts closed

Yeah but it was a really shitty honda and my friend swerved sideways off the road after his car stalled out on the ice. Driving to your hill is more likely to get you killed than the scary looking booter

My parents dont give a fuck. All they ever say is "Have fun!" Dads always been a huge support and always thought seeing ppl lap park is gnarly or cool, idk. Everytime I explain something about skiing to my mom tho, it seems like she doesn't even listen

Dont mean manual is worse, just that his car was a shitty automatic, so when we stalled out and spun sideways my friend had to rollback almost into a ditch
