The Montec hate on this site is something else. I get it's not your style. But seriously there's so many threads on this already. The astronaut suits and jumpsuits and shiny puffies are uglier and way less practical. Montec objectively makes decent gear for a decent price. Of course newbies are going to flock to it as a result. It's priced like Columbia but doesn't look like something my grandpa would wear. Kinda tired of this circlejerk

Literally everyone from Chicago suburbs coming to ski Granite peak got the Montec shit. its ugly, generally I like giant front pockets but not in this way, its just not crunchy enough for me. I def agree with the euro-dad vibes... or asshole-hypebeast park skier with rich parents who acts better than everyone

I just don’t like it because montec and DOPE very much look like every generic piece of clothing from China that you design and order online. The ones that spam you on Instagram and they call it a “clothing company” when it’s not even close to a company.

One of my friends has a Montec jacket and Virtika pants, he knows they aren't the most popular brands but when he bought them he was just focusing on a well priced and decent looking product.

How is this brand just blowing up?! Went to my little home resort in RURAL Idaho and saw like 8 people wearing it. I can’t say I’m a fan but their marketing team is doing something right.

It's like everything else in skiing. Money isn't made by selling to enthusiasts. Money is made by selling a shitload of stuff to a shitload of regular people. See Rossi Soul 7. Dope/Montec is a business that wants to make money and they're pretty good at it. There aren't many companies that can grow as quickly as them in a market as saturated as skiing.

I bought a pair of the bibs last season because:
1) I specifically wanted snow camo bibs
2) 20k / 20k for $220? Even if they last a season I haven't lost anything
They've held up better than the Saga pants I had back in their prime days. I've skied in some pretty wet weather with no leaks and barely any soak through.

And about the gore-tex. Yes, 100% agree. If I can nab gore tex for a good price, I always do. Gore tex is very strict about their textiles and companies using their tech. They even audit the companies’ factories.
I’ll always trust gore tex over other tech.

i think it looks good. it’s nice to see entry level and limited access skiers wearing clothing that is lower profile and practical, i’ve been noticing it a lot lately actually. i don’t know much about the brand or the product itself, but i like their aesthetic a lot and don’t really get why people are so wound up about it

Ive had a armada gore-tex jacket for 4 seasons now and it shows barely any wear and tear, and I wear it all the time outside of just skiing because its so comfortable, warm, and waterproof.

I'll probably end up with a pair of Strafe bibs or onesie next. And I'll "pay for what I get" and it will be a lot of money. I don't see the issue with a brand making reasonable quality products at an affordable price, and they look good. I think they are getting hate because they don't have a team / aren't core.
While I like supporting the small and "core" brands for any ski stuff, I'm not going to pass up a good product from *insert brand here* just because they are some corporate monster. Sorry bros.

obviously, you're welcome to shop whatever you want. but you have to recognize a little bit that if you're just jumping to corporate products, you're somewhat resigned from supporting the freeskiing community.
