The Montec hate on this site is something else. I get it's not your style. But seriously there's so many threads on this already. The astronaut suits and jumpsuits and shiny puffies are uglier and way less practical. Montec objectively makes decent gear for a decent price. Of course newbies are going to flock to it as a result. It's priced like Columbia but doesn't look like something my grandpa would wear. Kinda tired of this circlejerk

Literally everyone from Chicago suburbs coming to ski Granite peak got the Montec shit. its ugly, generally I like giant front pockets but not in this way, its just not crunchy enough for me. I def agree with the euro-dad vibes... or asshole-hypebeast park skier with rich parents who acts better than everyone

Montec is for MF's who dont smoke weed

Montec is for MF's who live in Illinois and their skiing for the year consists of 1 trip to Vail

Montec is for MF's who think JOTD is a religion

I hate to say it cuz I despise them but I like Virtika way more than Montec... at least Virtika looks cool

I just don’t like it because montec and DOPE very much look like every generic piece of clothing from China that you design and order online. The ones that spam you on Instagram and they call it a “clothing company” when it’s not even close to a company.

I didnt notice em my bad it just came to mind

One of my friends has a Montec jacket and Virtika pants, he knows they aren't the most popular brands but when he bought them he was just focusing on a well priced and decent looking product.

No hate from me, he rips and who gives a fuck what he wears.

Because that’s exactly what they are

How is this brand just blowing up?! Went to my little home resort in RURAL Idaho and saw like 8 people wearing it. I can’t say I’m a fan but their marketing team is doing something right.

They market on social media. Try to be in the shoes of the casual skier or snowboarder. They likely don't know any pros apart from Shaun White or Lindsey Vonn, let alone who their sponsors are. But they follow Jerry of the Day and their local resort on insta. The insta algorithm pushes ski ads towards them as a result. Dope/Montec dumps money into those targeted ads. That's marketing in 2021. Young people want to look cool, but they can't afford the pricy stuff for a sport they do a couple times a year. Tadaa, entry-level pricing structure.

It's like everything else in skiing. Money isn't made by selling to enthusiasts. Money is made by selling a shitload of stuff to a shitload of regular people. See Rossi Soul 7. Dope/Montec is a business that wants to make money and they're pretty good at it. There aren't many companies that can grow as quickly as them in a market as saturated as skiing.

I bought a pair of the bibs last season because:

1) I specifically wanted snow camo bibs

2) 20k / 20k for $220? Even if they last a season I haven't lost anything

They've held up better than the Saga pants I had back in their prime days. I've skied in some pretty wet weather with no leaks and barely any soak through.

You better watch your mouth on the 120 slander or else [tag=255318]@CalumSKI[/tag] is gonna come after you

I don't want to be that dude but buying gore-tex gear that's on sale, even if it isn't really your number 1 pick, is most definitely worth it. The absolute perfect seal against any water at all is incredible, albeit a little susceptible to burning holes in it if it rubs a rail for a little too long going a little too fast

r/skiing is obsessed with benny 100s not 120s.

And about the gore-tex. Yes, 100% agree. If I can nab gore tex for a good price, I always do. Gore tex is very strict about their textiles and companies using their tech. They even audit the companies’ factories.

I’ll always trust gore tex over other tech.

Any dude I've seen wearing Montec wears a size so small it looks like he has a damn corset on. This is the new I ski the blues at blue sky basin starter pack.

yeah I feel like the 120 would be a little too fat for r/skiing to be obsessed with, although we are talking about r/skiing, so the levels of idiocy are basically limitless.

i think it looks good. it’s nice to see entry level and limited access skiers wearing clothing that is lower profile and practical, i’ve been noticing it a lot lately actually. i don’t know much about the brand or the product itself, but i like their aesthetic a lot and don’t really get why people are so wound up about it

100% agree, even if you pay twice the price for it, it will last twice as long and hold its waterproofing better than any sort of "Tech" individual brands have. Ive had a armada gore-tex jacket for 4 seasons now and it shows barely any wear and tear, and I wear it all the time outside of just skiing because its so comfortable, warm, and waterproof.

This is the exact vibe I get from Montec. Saw a snowboard couple at Spirit a month ago in Montec and they were definitely hypebeast based on the rest of their kit.

Maybe it's decent stuff, I have no idea. Not my vibe and I can't help but think hypebeast every time I see it.

Don't worry my dude, I used to be a gear editor on here. I know products pretty well. I went from my 6 year old Trew bibs to the Montecs. I wasn't looking for longevity in this purchase.

I'll probably end up with a pair of Strafe bibs or onesie next. And I'll "pay for what I get" and it will be a lot of money. I don't see the issue with a brand making reasonable quality products at an affordable price, and they look good. I think they are getting hate because they don't have a team / aren't core.

While I like supporting the small and "core" brands for any ski stuff, I'm not going to pass up a good product from *insert brand here* just because they are some corporate monster. Sorry bros.

valid personal opinion but also the least community-centric perspective i can think of. putting "core" in quotes discredits that there are actual brands that exist only within our community which will continue to support our small segment of skiing, not like a corporate brand which will take your money and remove it from our community by applying it to other areas of their budgets, decided in some corporate office by heads who don't value our part of skiing. it's basically the same argument as shop local.

obviously, you're welcome to shop whatever you want. but you have to recognize a little bit that if you're just jumping to corporate products, you're somewhat resigned from supporting the freeskiing community.

I dunno man, kit looks pretty good in this jkravitz edit. Maybe if you try riding somewhere with a higher quality of riders you'll think their outfits are more cute
