I know Fischer is sooooo un-cool around NS

This is a touchy subject. The dude at the shop strongly suggested mounting them at the factory reco. I told him I'm a snowboarder switching back to skiing and that I'm pretty athletic, and I'd like to go at least 1 or 2 cm +, but he was very adamant about going factory recommended. So I'm not sure how to feel about this situation, but I went with his suggestion. I'm not really skiing park but I plan on landing switch occationally.

All mountain skis should be mounted factory recommendation. When they profile the ski, that is their starting point. Its where you will get the best radius performance.

Now to ride them!

Someone needs to send this comment to Faction. -8 on the prodigys JFC.

This makes me feel better. Thank you.

Fantastic skis and owned a pair of 184cm versions. Fantastic carvers but still playful. What length are those ones?

There’s usually a section on any ski where the sidecut narrows to it’s minimum width then stays pretty constant for a bit before widening again towards the tail.

So skis will have a “sweet spot” mounting area that differs ski to ski and some manufacturers pick the middle of that range for their mount point like Moment, some pick the mount point near the end of that range like your Fisher/a Faction Prodigy(and you move forward for a bit more playful ski) and some models like a Faction Candide/Black Ops Gamer pick the start of that min width range for a mount point and you move back for a more traditional skier.

Those Fishers will be the most stable, have the best float and carving capability on the line.

The ranger 102 FR gets love around here. High marks for a lightweight all mountain/one ski quiver directional ripper with a focus on good edge hold/carving.

That tech probably doesn't want responsibility for making a measurement. I'd recommend asserting yourself next time or mounting yourself to get the skis mounted where you want them.

Can we all acknowledge that this is not the role of the shop tech unless someone asks specifically for consultation. On two separate occasions I’ve had techs mount at recommended despite carefully measured taped lines and very specific instructions at intake. Like wtf do you care if I come in and want them mounted on the shovel that’s my business FO

I feel like this is a safe space lol but I'll ask, just acquired a pair of M5 Mantras this season, am kind of stoked just because it's the first directional stiff ski I've ever owned. Are these going to carve like a mofo compared to say like Moment PBJ's? Every other ski I have is twin tip freeride ski but it's cool cus these are a lil beat up but still good to go, and seem like a great early season/ shitty condition ski where I might be stuck on groomers but now I can bomb it hella hard. Sounds fun. Just got a razor sharp tune on it ?

That’s going to be a very fun ski for driving the tips and generating power. It will feel different, yes. It will also be fun.

This is out of hand. I thought people were safe from mounting mishaps if the marked boot center clearly with a nice sharp line on masking tape and a clear legible brief note. Please folks take pictures of your marking requests and fight hard when shops jack your mount up.

Pretty deep sidecut on this ski, I know a few people (like [tag=271284]@anders_a[/tag]) have moved it forward. I skied this one on the line and loved it, I also bumped it forward to about -6 and couldn’t stand it. The sidecut is too apparent and I felt that I was fighting it too hard, it felt very hooky in the tail. Factory Rec is never a bad idea, and that’s a kickass ski.

These are 177s. Same shop guy told me not to go over 180 given my situation. I was hesitant, and will probably lose clout for it but whatever, at the end of the day it's 2.75 inches (shorter than the 184) so I'll gladly rip these for a couple seasons and decide where I should go from there.

[tag=241854]@animator[/tag] Dope, that's good to hear. Again, I've been snowboarding since I was 12, so probably best to stick to the party line until I actually ride these and gain some input of my own. At this point the only real question I have is how hard am I gonna faceplant when I try to hit a rail on brand new skis.

awsome ski!

I rocked my 191s at +3 and 184s at +2,

I sold both and buying new pink ones on black friday, but DAMNIT all the 191 and 184 sold out just before #"=¤%=#%#5

I have put 6! friends on them, some with duke PT 16, one kingpin, rest with jesters, its an easy 50-60mph all day ski.

Fischer loves to tune their skis to razor edges so I would highly suggest at least taking a gummi stone to the edges underfoot, they’re stupid sharp. Besides probably catching, there’s a good chance they’d crack too.

never had a super sharp 102 FR, and I've done work to like 10? of them

now base high?! ohh yes. a grind might be good idea. but unless you make the edges super sharp you dont notice that much,.

So in short, the shop saved you from royally fucking up. LOL fucking gapers.

The blister review lomed it best at -6 from center. Maybe the tune you had was bad?

-6 is massive, I've put up all measurments though incrementally in +- 0,01mm measurments.

I just bought 191cm in PINK!!!!!! WOOP need to figure out binding, but forza 2.0 might be good. I did order HH pivots with the ski to get bundle deal :p

I skied it at a demo and the rep had it tuned the night before, I always check the bases with a true bar and it wasn’t edge high. I had a certain connotation about the ski and I felt that at -6 it was not doing what it was designed for, which is ski pretty much anything with stability and control. Felt very hooky at the tail, it’s not a freestyle ski by nature so I don’t think that messing with the mount point will benefit anyone really. If you want a stable ski with a more freestyle feel, get a Wildcat 101 or a Jeffrey 102.

My Ranger 102 FR were a touch base high and got a stone grind to make perfect. I found that like a lot of skis from the factory, the edges had a coarse finish and felt grabby. A touch up with finishing files and diamond stones and they were perfect.

The 184cm version that Blister tested had a rec mount around -10cm(-9cm on the 177cm) and they went plus 4cm to -6cm back from Center which I agree was maybe too much for that ski.

Most ski designers say you’re usually okay moving mounts plus/minus 2cm to account for preferences. The Ranger 94 FR which has a very similar sidecut just narrower, has their factory mount a few cm forward of the 102FR. I had my 102FR mounted similar to the factory 94FR at +2cm to make more playful but if that ski was my only ski on a powder day, I’d wish they were mounted at factory I’m sure.

As many have mentioned, factory mounts or somewhere within the “factory approved range” is always a safe bet.
