I just spent a night ontop of my mountain.

Alright so my friend and I were talking for the longest time about camping out ontop of our mountain. Noone has ever done it, or atleast we have never heard of anyone doing it. So we decided that we were gonna do it this weekend, no matter what people said. We got all our camping stuff together Friday night, partied Friday and then took off to the mountain Saturday morning. We had a bunch of camping equipment so it took us three trips from the base all the way up to the top where our camp was. We had to walk about three hundred feet in waist high snow through the woods to get to the camp. Set up camp and waited till dark to spark up the fire so that noone would see the smoke. It was so windy up there the fire could not stay. So we just cooked up some hotdogs real quick and went into the tent. I have never been so miserable, and cold in my life. The wind up on top was so strong, and loud neither my friend or I could fall asleep. Constant waking up and tossing and turning in a small two man tent. But we battled through it, and got up intime for first tracks. We were so cold and our boots were frozen! Had first tracks all the way to the bottom of the mountain. Got into the lodge and warmed up our boots and gloves. Went back up to the camp and we shoved a bunch of crap in out backpacks, and whatever we could not fit in we had hanging off the side of our packs. When bringing all the equipment down people were just looking at us and laughing, because they all knew what we had done.

So yeah thats it really. It was one of those things where we were talking about it but jsut never did it...till now. Did it once, and will never do it again.

*sparknotes* camped ontop of my mountain with another friend. It was cold as hell and will never do it again. But in the end it was all worth it.

i wanted to do that this season until i realized theres no point maybe when the lifts close though

thats sick man!!! theres an igloo in the woods off the summit of my mountain that this dude built. hes like 45 and spends mad time there. he said he spent six nights in a row up there this past year. anyone skiing loon GO FIND THE IGLOO

maybe you should learn some geography. And besides, spending the night outside in the winter at 4-5k feet in northern NY is still fucking cold. How many times have you spent the night outside in sub freezing temperatures?

thats sick. it would be awesome to say you have done that. if you did that with good weather it could be so fun

It was at Gore Mountain in NY. But my friend and I slept in our sleepingbags with everything on. snowpants, jacket, gloves, and i just put on different boots. my other friend is a snowboarder so he kept his boots on. I felt that if I kept my ski boots on they would have frozen my feet right off.

and piss off and stop talking shit, lets see you freeze your ass off and spend the night in that kind of weather.

haha nice me and my friends always talk about doing it but never have, so yeah maybe i wont now doesnt sound fun haha.

looks fun and got a sick shot in the end haha.

I would do this, but you can drive to the top of my hill haha

dude thats sick, my friend and I always have talked about that, when the weather is warm like it is now it would be so much fun..btw, we were gonna do it at gore..where abouts did you camp?

Winter camping is cool, but why would you do it at a ski resort?

1) Cheating by taking lifts up

2) Not really in the wilderness, probably hear the groomers at night, light pollution etc.

3) Absolutely sleep in your liners, you must have softass boots to be able to get your feet into them the next morning with frozen liners.

That's so sick. Regardless of whether it was miserable or not, it's one of those things you do just to do you know? Just so you can say you did it. Props, that's rad!

yes its as cold as it looks ( got down to -9)DINNERyes, its as hot as it looks
Tonys Grove Utah, up the logan canyon.8,000 ft. ishcold as fuck but sooo worth it and i WILL do it again

^^^ yea where is that i ski loon like every weekend and ive never seen the igloo... which summit the gondola summit or north peak??

unnecessary callout?
What he said didn't in any way come across in the douchey "bro, I smoke so much weed" kind of way that tool boxes with Bob Marley or Wu-Tang icons do.
To the OP: I love that you guys did it. Plenty of people throw around those sort of ideas, and very few follow through. Props.
If nothing else, you've got a good story to tell from here on.

sick man, I did the same but i built snow walls up the sides of my tent to stop wind. so my tent actually sat 4ft deep into snow with banks over it
-B

i stayed up on my mountain for a night time botter session/cliff drop session but got busted by ski patrol.

done my fair share of winter camping from being a boy scout though and its way fun if you have the right gear and are with the right group of people...Props mAN
