I'm 16 and looking for my first car. I don't need anything special, just something to get me around. I don't want it to fall apart either. Do you have any suggestions?

i was in your same situtation, i got a job at 15 1/2, but i only had liek 1100 when i turned 16. I got a 1990 Subaru Legacy for 900. It everyhting you need, so sick, 4wd too. I broke it though because it leaked oil and i didnt check it often. Since then i ahve got a 1992 subaru legacy for like 2200. They are the best ski car for the money.

anything but japanese shit. i got my grand am for 2, and it has been rock solid. 29 mpg highway too. makes it easier on the wallet for the long ski trips.

SAAB... they are babies at 50,000 and well nutured adults at 150,000... my mom bought one and then gave it to my sister... she took it from 35,000 miles to 187,000 with minor repairs... unless you try your hardest to beat the shit out of them 200,000 miles+ is easily possible...

Plus swedish safety is the best... when you buy a newer car they show you pictures of people who hit telephone poles at 75 mph and walk away from the crash with a few bumps and bruises... people who roll their car down embankments 4 times and have a broken arm or something minor compared to the fact they should have died... that kind of shit

 
i had an 89 isuzu trooper six cylinder that had 321,000 miles on it. all we fixed on it were clutch and oil pan. then my parents sold it and didnt tell me til i came home from being gone on the weekend. 500 bucks.

Here's my suggestion: save more money.

My buddy got a car for 1900$ and it's just plain missing parts. I dunno what happened. it ran fine when he got it and now it doesn't and it's rusted out and just plain doesn't work. Buy from a dealer and get a little more money together, you don't wanna get burnt on a used car. It'll cost you far more money.

i put 2000 down on a brand new car cause i didnt want a piece that would fall apart at any given moment. im paying it at 200 a month for 5 years. i have a job though, and so i can afford that. i dont know if you have a job or not, but if you dont, either get one or just keep saving. unfortunatly im a bad driver and keep getting into accidents (none of which are my fault though...) but thats beside the point.

Or you could not by a car, im 16 almost 17 and i dont really need a car. I have my lincense but id rather save my money than have a car that im going to sell when i go to college. You could do so much with 2 grand. People always wonder why i have so much money, its because i dont have a car and gas is so expensive now.

If you live where it snows a lot (I hope you do if you ski) you want something with 4-wheel drive. I've had a '93 GMC Jimmy for four years and it's great. You could probably find one for 2-3g, but definately get it checked out by a mechanic before you buy any used car.

87 hyundai stellar, we are the only owners, was bought brand new and always maintained. Runs great after 20 years. 4 cyl, 5 speed transmission, great on gass. my mom recently got a new car so we are selling this one. its in excellent shape for its age. if your interested pm me, we would let it go for 900 bucks

on a more serious note, i would highly recomment an old chevy pickup...those things are so damn durable and they run forever if you keep them in half-decent shape.

also, i would recommend and old volvo or saab. they're both great in the snow and they wont crap out on you like a lot of asian and american cars will...
