Racers are people too... Now saying that, they carry attitude, just like the parkies carry their own attitudes. The easiest way to deal with them is to talk to the race department. I can only speak for our resort, and we have a dedicated arena for race training. They access that by one chairlift. Today they were winching a run that had just been blown on last week which cut off the mid station access. After seeing them go through the park I emailed the director of the race department, told them the i don't jib your course, don't race our park thing, but explained that it just isn't feasable for them to access their area through our area. They are carrying 4 to 6 times the speed of the users of the park while they are getting to their uphill traverse. I explained it very simple, very nicely and an email was sent out to all the coaches that use the race training arena.
Hate is just a natural part of skiing and snowboarding, and always will be, but when you step back a second and pick and choose the battles you get into, you'll see that some are just a simple conversation away from an easy solution. Just like kids ducking roplines into a closed park. We can yell all we want, which ends up happening alot because people have their ipods in and "can't hear us"... but in the end if we just sit them down and explain why they were being stopped, it turns out great for everyone involved.
