Starting just some classes at comm college monday, 8 weeks of english and reading and 8 weeks after of math, then winter is all mine to ski and work. Luckily my only friend whos staying local is in my night class too. Heard the teachers dont really care, should feel no different from my HS then.

Where's everyone applying?

Got into Montana State (all you need is a pulse)

Applied to University of British Colombia

Applied to CalPoly

Working on my app to CU but I live 3 minutes off campus so 99% sure I'm not going there. Just a safety school.

:)

I am a junior rn and i just retook the act after getting a 28 and I think i will be around a 32, atleast that was my goal and I thought i did good since I did a crap ton of tutoring. I think my gpa is around 3.7, my school only gives us the weighted score which is a 4.26 (4.5 for honors and 5.0 for ap). I am taking ap calc ab, ap chem, ap statistics, and ap macro and micro economics. Do you guys have any tips for senior year, college apps, or standardized tests? Thank you. Oh I live in Ohio and I won't pick a college based on the skiing, most of my options have ski clubs that have go to the local resorts and have a big trip out west every year which is good enough for me.

Thought I'd bump this thread since the ED deadline is very close... Where's everyone applying?

Writing an essay as we speak. Already applused to MSU and got accepted (shocking I know) and am writing my app atm for U of Utah. Thinking of DU and possibly British Columbia but not sure if it's right for me and grades are on the lower end of their spectrum. U of Minnesota is my second safety school as I'm a resident 25 mins away

Try taking the SAT as well, some people do much better on that, if you've never taken that or the new psat, it is very different from the ACT. Junior year is where it all goes down academically, so stay on top of that, looks like you have a rigorous course load (AP Chem was tight, macro/micro and AB are pretty easy) which is great... if you can stay on top of it all. It's all about time management, if you have to sacrifice something to make sure you do well on a test, do it, you won't regret it later.

Senior year is easier, (depending on your class load), but still important so don't get caught slipping especially 1st semester. Get involved in extracurricular, sports, clubs, whatever, they look good on applications, can provide essay topics, and most importantly are fun. Nobody ever regretted doing too much.

As far as college apps, try and get them done ASAP, like BEFORE the school year starts (if possible).

Also don't get an MIP.

Glad to see some NSers applying to UBC. Let me know if you have any questions about life in Vancouver, academics, party scene, skiing or anything else you're too afraid to ask on the campus tour. It's an excellent school in a gorgeous place, I couldn't be happier going here.

Good luck to seniors applying right now!

How is the party scene? Also how is that van-city lifestyle? Mountain Biking?

how are the frats/ partys/ drugs

I'm a junior. Interested in epidemiology or computer science. I know the two are completely different lol, but both seem to interest me. I have a 3.30 gpa and don't really know what schools are in my range as I don't want to set myself up for dissapointment. Any recommendations?

Of course I'm only a junior and my gpa could rise or fall. So I'm more focused on schools that have good programs for either or.

The party scene definitely is live, especially if you know the right people. From my experience it's a lot different than partying at US schools because alcohol and weed are legal for most students (19+). For first year you can drink openly in your room or in the lounge and smallish floor parties can do down and after that most people live off campus in apartments or houses (so more parties). Fraternities have a series of large bangers at the start of every year to encourage people to rush and to hype up first year students, but their parties are less fun than house parties and clubs I've been to. As far as rushing frats you could ask someone involved in greek life, but I feel like its overhyped and most people are pretty chill outside of frats so theres no need. Lots of kids go out clubbing/drinking on weekends at bars or clubs in the area or you can enjoy some weed at a cannabis lounge/dab bar. People are pretty academically oriented but at a huge university there are definitely a lot of people still down to party.

As far as Vancity overall I find it pretty amazing. I grew up in Boston and it's way different here but I love the friendly chill vibe. The city is big but not overwhelming or crowded, we're close to the beach, mountains and nature and its a nice diverse place. I don't own a bike here, but the Mountain bike scene at Whistler is insane and I know a lot of people on campus are into biking and action sports in general.

Damn. Sounds like a perfect place.

what would you say about the quality of student (intelligence level, vibes, etc..) I know it's only October, but what about some of the closer resorts (grouse, Seymour, cypress).

Also that campus skatepark. If that isn't idea idk what is.

Yea man I absolutely love this place. The skate park is pretty ideal for sure. Most students here are very intelligent and motivated in their field of study, friendly and chill to almost everyone, and there are all kinds of people so you can find your group. I have intelligent conversations with friends from the classroom to the beach to the party and I think that says a lot about the quality of students here. As far as closer skiing to campus, we just had a railjam (my skis are getting shipped so I couldn't ride) and Grouse seems to be the main place to go for park skiing nearby. Night skiing is definitely an option if you schedule yourself well, but I'm going to probably mostly just be at Whistler on the weekends and days off. I can see snow on the mountain tops from across the bay and I can't wait to get up there.

Best of luck in your applications, I remember the stress as being pretty crushing this time of year. If you do get in, for sure hit me up with a PM and we can ride one day or something next year. I've met a ton of chill skiers off NS and I'm always down to shred with new people

I live right under champlain. Graduated 2 years ago from Penn State and then moved to Burlington. Its an awesome town.

I will be getting my bachelor's in December. I'm applying to drinking and skiing. After months of waiting anxiously, I got my approval for email! So, pumped to shot gun beers on the lift and play GNAR.

College eats up your time. Finding the time to ski in college is hard, even when you live in a ski town!

Currently a senior and applied to Utah, Oregon, Montana State, USF, UW, CU Boulder and USD

no idea how to choose as i love all of them

applying to university of washington

Ive only applied to u of washington so far... Prolly wont get in. Applying to cu boulder, CSU fort collins, U of Denver, U of Oregon, Lewis and Clark, U of Vermont, and u of m duluth by jan 15. Might also apply to UBC in Vancouver but they only look an your senior yr grades which will forsure be hella weak so idk. I have a 2.9 gpa so really counting on rigorous course schedule 29 on act and good essay and extracurriculars.

I go to DU. If you come down I can help show you around campus or something.

This is from last year thanks tho. Ironically DU ended up being the only other school I got into besides CSU. I ended up getting all d's and f's senior yr (going from a 3.1 to a 2.4 in the process) and just barely finnessed my way into not getting rescinded by

CSU by sending some really good bullshitted emails and showing I "made a life change" by going on a bike trip from minneapolis to maine (only made it to toronto) because thats when I found out I wasnt getting rescinded rescinded and literally flew straight home, spent a day packing, and sent it out to csu. Lol my admissions person literally had to check and see if it would be breaking any university policies to accept me. Anyways I'm out here at csu now having a pretty good time but strugglin to get out to the mountains. I know some people down at du tho and ima try to send it down there a couple times this yr to party at du and then head up to the mountains the next morning so I'll let you know if and when I make it happen.

I'm a junior and I just got my act score back afterva ton of tutoring and i got a 31. I got a 34 english, 33 math, freaking 24 reading, and 33 science. I am debating if i should retake since my english and science scores were way higher than predicted (30) but my reading was predicted to be a 28. I don't want to retake it if I am not going to go up in score.

Do it again and focus on the reading, that one you can totally get up and its so worth it.

If you have a 2.5 or a 22 on the act you're pretty much accepted. They have so much room they have never turned anyone down who met the requirements

sick what are you doing? Working at the Hostel?

That's one of my options, but I'm not going to have it all figured out until February. I'm taking a family trip there so I'm going to check the area out and see what works. I know Jackson is a tricky place to live sometimes lol.
