Getting on that film school grind, is anyone else doing that on here? So far I've gotten into Chapman University and Loyola Marymount, waiting to hear back from USC, NYU, and Emerson. I really dig Chapman so far, as they gave me a solid scholarship and they have a phenomenal program, so unless I beat that 4% acceptance rate at USC (lolright) I'll probably end up there. I did get a phone interview with USC a couple weeks ago so I think I'm at least in the hunt. Fingers crossed!

I have a friend who applied to Tisch, probably won't get in though, nobody even knew he had an interest in film until he applied.

NYU seems especially funky, if he had great writing he has a real shot. Storytelling ability/potential is ranked way above technical ability; they want kids they can mold into auteurs rather than spielberg-mimicking gearheads from what I've read/heard.

Yeah.. Well... Let's just say he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer and not really a creative type.

I will probably be going to University of Alaska Fairbanks and I live in Fairbanks so it is the easiest and cheapest option. I might also go to UAS in Juneau or I might take a year off to travel or ski bum. I got accepted to Marlboro in Vermont but didn't get the scholarships I was hoping I would so it is too expensive. Right now my plan is to go to UAF for the fall semester and then taking spring semester off to go on a road trip down to my parents house in Mexico. I would stop and ski along the way and draw out the trip to 3 or 4 months. Once I was there I would clear the jungle from the new lot on the beach they bought and possibly direct the building of the new house.

Why not just take a gap year? Also, no UVM app?

Hey, is it possible to get a very generous sum of money from Vermont in scholarships and not get invited to the Honor's college?

I don't know for sure but I would guess so. They probably have a lot of money to give out, but only like 200 kids are in the honors college I think. I didn't get the honors letter until like 2 weeks after the acceptance one though. Can you share scholarship amount for comparison?

I got 16.5K a year from UVM and didn't receive anything from them about the Honors Program which I'm okay with, still hyped to get money from them

Yeah I definately might take a gap year. If I wait a semester though my brother will graduate high school at that point and would probably come with me for ski bumming. I mostly applied to Marlboro because of their renaissance scholar program where they chose a student from each state for full tuition and I figured I had a good shot at getting it because there are like 6 people in Alaska and no one has heard of Marlboro.

U dont wanna be in that shit you'll only have tool study machine friends and connects of u take it serious and it ain't an ivy. Go there to embrace the social aspect of school make friends with the real g's ski smoke ur herb and cost to ur 3.5 just mix in a good internship and ur on ur way.

That's a good enough school and ur not paying full price can't u be happy with that why do u want honors shit? If u are thinking along those lines u should instead transfer somewhere better after a year.

Honors college is the stupid shit u tell ur parents to make them wet and happy but u ain't at an ivy so what's the point?

20k per year for 4 years. That includes the Presidential scholarship (17k per year) and the Grossman School of Business scholarship (3k per year)

Just curious, I heard that some schools its almost the same workload but you graduate with "Honors" on your degree which sounds pretty prestige

It's different I know UMass they make it crazy hard. Normal people should avoid it at that school. Get a 4 and transfer tho if u wanna be super academic if u wanna embrace a school like uvm ski smoke get chill homies etc etc.

Where ever I go I want to balance my schoolwork with going out, so I don't plan on having no outside life

It's UVM, not U Chicago. I've only heard good things about their honors. Basically, it's a similar workload but you get brand new dorms and first choice on classes.

Your opinion literally means nothing anymore dude. Did you even go to college? Some of the stuff you write is just so retarded that I don't know how to respond... but I'll try (don't take this the wrong way, I have nothing against you, but what you wrote here is straight up dumb as fuck).

First off, why would you be discouraging a kid from reaching his full academic potential? I honestly don't believe that the UVM honors program is all that isolated from the rest of the kids and there's no real downside to at least trying. If I were to go there, I'd be in honors and still be doing the same shit as everyone else.

Secondly, what is this crap about "it's not an ivy so why should you care"? Like what the fuck???? Also, from every college kid or graduate I've talked to, you don't just coast by and "pick up" an internship, especially in fucking Burlington. How can you imply that being in an honors program doesn't get you a leg up in job searches?

Lastly, and I'll get back to you next year, but I don't think I would want to be transferring into a slightly better school after frosh year of college. Like you've met all these new kids and suddenly you displace yourself for basically no game (assuming you actually do decently-well). It's not like anyone here is in community college, hating it, and decides to transfer to uPenn, like that's a very methodical process one would have to formulate years+ in advance to have a shot at that or something similar.

Lol no I got into state with what is now a 2.7 and 29 on act lol. N haven't heard back from boulder but know people with similar grades that have gotten in

The acceptance rate to boulder is like 85% so you most likely won't have much to worry about. Nothing is a given, but I'd say not to worry.

It was 87 last year. The administration is getting shat on by some faculty because some students getting in are idiots, don't do their work, and don't care. Most colleges have seen significant drops in acceptance rates in the last decade or so because of the commonapp, but since CU Boulder is pretty much the entire small city of Boulder, the school can afford to accept more and more kids, and they continue to do so because of $$$.

I know someone who is part of that 13%. % wise, getting rejected from boulder is the same % chance as getting accepted to a super competitive school ahah (crying emoji)

UMD is a good school, I grew up like 25 minutes away, but I will warn you that college park isn't all that great of a place to live.

I go to a private school in Potomac if you know the area. I got into UMD, and it's one of my top choices.

Schools I've Applied To:

-SUNY Adirondack (ACC)

-SUNY Potsdam

-SUNY Plattsburgh

-Johnson State College

-Plymouth State University

Got accepted to four of those schools (haven't heard back from Plattsburgh yet), and Plymouth State and Plattsburgh are my top choices. I applied undecided because there's so many things I want to do, but I don't really know what I want to do for the rest of my life.

UPDATE: I heard back from Plattsburgh and I got accepted. Planning on going up north to Plattsburgh/Plattsvegas in the fall.

Plattsburgh is one of the most over rated shitholes in the suny system. I have never been to a place where school and doing well is such a second though over smoking or drinking. Yea its close to skiing...but academically its awful. I did one semester there and than transferred out.

I'm out of state too. Its not too hard. I think if you have B's and some A's you are set. Around a ACT of 25-26 is good to get in. (lower would prob work too)

For some reason I had to enroll in their academic probation program, even though I've been taking rigorous courses and keeping my grades up where they should be. I found it weird.

The honors college dorms are cool (private bathroom), but cost more. You also take an extra honors college class each semester.

I got that ill scholarship though, cost isn't TOO much of an issue for UVM, will be for private schools.

Update: got into Emerson, but it wouldn't be cheaper than Chapman for me so it's not really on the radar anymore. The latter's program is growing faster and I do want to be in Cali.

Got rejected from USC, waiting to hear back from NYU (decisions come out on Thursday). Only reason I'd go there is if it's similarly priced to Chap, so not holding my breath.
