ok so i decided to paint my PE's because i didn't like the graphics all that much and everybody around here has them. my friend and i decided to do it simple and kind of like an old school longboard surfboard. for my little write up/pictures just go look

its automotive paint with tons of clear coat on top. they wont chip any more than any other topsheet.

yeah, I helped kevin out with the painting.

The red looks SUPER sick. Its kind of a pearl darkish red. They really look beautiful in person. Once they've set up for a few days, we're gonna add a K2 logo, and maybe a pinstripe down the middle.

yeah ever since i've been on here (i think about 2 years now) there have been lots of threads asking about how to paint skis, so i thought that i would just take a chance. so far im happy with how it turned out. yeah i thought i would actually donate some actual content to this site! its gone downhill the past 9 months or so. just the same questions being asked over and over. im glad you guys like them, and i'll be sure to post in on how they hold up after the first day i get to ski on them. hopefully that will be soon :)

yeah that was amazing. Agreed one of the best things I've seen on here in a while. I've never been too crazy about the Seth Pistol graphics, and as soon as I find money to buy them I might have to do the same. Plus it gives your skis originality and thats sweet.

I feel bad for people who don't drink, cause when they wake up in the morning, thats the best the're going to feel all day
 
probably at the end of this season, i'm gonna do my 1260s aswell (I'm the swell hand that painted kevin's beauty's).

I'm gonna do mine similar to his. Except white/cream on the outer edge, with a wide light baby-blue in the middle, with a thinner darker blue in the middle of that. maybe a pinstripe too, not sure.

the paint holds up ok when flexing the ski?

Was thinking about doing that myself possibly getting some airbrushing added, and I know auto paint will flex some but car panels dont generally move thaat much so wasnt sure if it would crack or ripple when the ski is really flexed.

 
those are lookin pretty nice... but now you should replace the base with something that doesnt suck.

well they make door panels that re more flexable than a ski, but I'm not sure how the ski would hold up to repeated bending

you could also just spraypaint them and put some spray some polyurethane on tehm.

^ yeah, thats basically what we did. we just used car paint (Duplicolor) cause it has better color/quality than 'generic' spray paint.

u didnt like try and remove anything off the ski? like scrape off part of the old topsheet, just covered it up and painted on top?

Ya, nice job man. I was thinking about doing that with some skis i have, but thought it might void the warrenty. What do you guys think? think it wold void the warenty? Nice job on the painting tho, props.

no we didn't try to take off any of the top sheet. we simply sanded it a little to make the paint stick better to it. and if i ever wanna change it i can just sand off the paint and the graphics are still under the paint all i would have to do is put some clear coat back on it to make the scratches for the sanding go away.

yeah, we sanded a ton, and used adhesion promotor, so the paint won't be coming off at all. and kevin, hand flexing isn't near what skiing will do to them. But i think it'll hold up fine, a car body actually flexes a lot, much like a ski, so they should be fine.

as for the warrenty, my guess is your fucked when you paint em. which is funny, cause public enemies break ALL the time, hahaha.

very nice job, you should take the pics and descriptions and make an article, that way you could refer it to people longer, and contributing to the site... by they way, i love the shine on that red colour, fantastic job.

yeah i really wanted to leave them with the off white, but i figured it i was skiing some powder and one, or both of them came off i would never find them again. its hard enough finding a ski that has color on it, let alone a white one.
