How to handle a collision with a kid on the hill/trails

that mom was very understanding. most of the time when i see videos like this, the parent flips shit on the guy skiing/snowboarding/biking/etc., even though the kid is usually the main cause of the collision.

...and not like this

I've seen this video a few times now and that mom is a stupid bitch , what the fuck is a 6 year old black kid doing at a skatepark on your birthday?

Like his mom should hit up chucky cheese or some shit for him. Stupid parents these days.

wow that skateboard video makes me so mad! that kid had ZERO business being there and that lady is a animal. what a low life piece of shit

biker 100% at fault. pedestrians have right of way, always.

it's the same thing with skiing: people in front of you always have right of way, it doesn't matter if gapers were standing in the landing, they were in front.

bring the downvotes, this is the way the real world works.

How was hes supposed to stop? It was after a hill, he had decent speed and the kid was on the trail.

Have you ever heard of look both ways before you cross the street? Pedestrians do not always have the right of way, for example, you cannot just run onto the 400 highway, get hit, and claim that your were in front, so its the vehicle drivers fault.

That is true, but with most situations its to late to pull back. I rarely see people just ride straight into people because they didnt want to turn.

Its a girl, if you really want to fight back use the video for an assult charge

You would not knock out a kids mom right infront of him

Wrote out a long reply to that then decide i'm not going to bother justifying this on an internet forum, each to their own.

1. pedestrians do not ALWAYS have the right of way

2. if someone was standing in the landing it IS their fault, almost all resorts make that explicitly clear

3. if you dont know anything about liability in a recreation context , please dont claim that you do

My problem is the mountain makes a designated area for us to jump, hit rails, and go fast and these fucking morons come in and act like it's the beginner slope. If you're not in the park to use the features or stay to the side out of the flow then get the fuck out

youre so out of your element i can't imagine why you are trying to argue about this. what you said isn't even necessarily true when a car hits a pedestrian..in fact, in some cases the pedestrian can be charged for damages if they are found to be at fault. your nonsense isn't worth responding to at any more length but i'd suggest you read up before talking about this subject again

Most bike parks / sanctioned DH trail areas have their own responsibility code and almost always include a little blurb about how to never ride up, or walk on/up the trails. Parents just aren't being smart enough, we all know that kids can just go cruising the second you take your eye off them so just hang out in a safe environment to begin with. It's like deciding to have a family picnic with a 3 year old right next to a freeway and no fence. Stupid.

What the fuck does the kid being black have to do with it

Because that's not the case in other scenarios. It's like distracted driving, if the distracted driver crashes into another car that's in its way, then it's obviously the distracted driver's fault.

In this case, the kid didn't know what he was doing, he was in a blind spot. The biker didn't see the kid and acted fast by using the brakes and the kid ran into the direction that the biker was steering in. The mother even knew it was her kid's fault.

Thats not true bud. if i hit a jump and landed on a kid its not like i could have avoided it... that whole paragraph makes me want you to jump off a bridge

this seems like one of those situations you cant really do anything but ask "are you ok?". i feel bad for the kid to live with that mom, who just clocks a random skateboarder who hits a kid on accident.

btw this was my first post from a computer

It doesn't really matter who's fault it is, if you hit a kid just make sure he's okay first and then bitch about it later

So I suppose if Someone jumps in front of car on the highway, it's the car's fault? If someone stands under someone flying through the air in a place that they are allowed to, it's the person in the air'a fault? Fuck off

Its only considered your fault if you are riding/biking/skating/driving in an area that is not meant for high speeds. If you are doing any of these activities in areas designated for high speeds like a terrain park, bike park, or skate park it is never and will never be considered your fault if you hit somebody especially is they are standing in a blind spot that IS MADE for people to land at high speeds like this bike landing or a park jump landing. Resorts make it EXTREMELY clear that people should never be standing in blind areas.

Some little kid cut me off, and i took him out. I got up, made sure the kid was fine, and then started to help the little kid get his skis back on (he was like 4 or 5). A few seconds in this woman comes skiing down, yelling in what sounded like russian, i had no idea was going on and she was so pissed. I tried to explain the situation, but all i got back was "kgjbaaksld kjefzttul!!!." i gave up and just skied away.

Could not disagree more with you. This would be like if there was someone skiing across a landing of a jump in a line. You cannot have a spotter for every landing so this would mean it was your fault you hit the kid? No. The kid did not belong their and the biker was on the track.

Get out of here you dirty troll.

Let me guess your process behind this terrible post:

1. Click link to pinkbike

2. Read through comments

3. Notice well executed trolls (ex: "Why would you ride through A FIELD OF CHILDREN?! Obviously the riders fault.", "COMPLELTY riders fault!!!! The kid was just counting pebbles on a downhill trail sheesh")

4. Think - "OoOooo00o tiem too trololol the sh!t out of NS liek theise guiys!!!11!12 hehehahahoohoo"

5. Type and post the first thing that comes to mind.

Or you're not trolling and you are just an incompetent swine. In which case, go wander onto a highway and claim it was the driver's fault for killing you.

Are you just asking for hate?

In many cases, pedestrians do have the right of way but that kid was standing in the middle of a bike track and the rider tried his hardest to slow and avoid him. It was in no way the bikers fault.

That was a nasty one to OP vid. That kid took it like a champ. The mom was super understanding too. That is best case scenario.

Now second vid, is worst case scenario. Some moms are more vicious than others.

With my luck, most collision append peacefully. Show your remorse, help the kid if you are ok. You are the older one, you should bear responsibility to the youth.

However, no one was at fault. The kid fell and tried to get out of the way. He was just too slow and ran in the wrong direction. The biker was in a well designed course that requires speed to correctly hit the landings. Some landings are blind, you will never know if someone is behind it. So freak accident that everyone takes when they are in a bike course.

Story Time

About two weeks ago, I was riding a new pumptrack near calgary. Track was fun, pretty easy to go fast through. At about noon, a group of kids on their bikes arrived with their Philippino nanny. Her English was bad, and didn't really pay attention to what her kids were doing. Anyways, I was doing some pretty quick laps around the track, and cleared a double that went into a corner. And then, BAM. One of those kids was riding the pumptrack the wrong way, and I hit him head on.

Nanny obviously didn't see what happened, and was reasonably angry at me. Kid scraped his arm, nothing major, but was crying and screaming. Regardless, I get the kids bike off the track, and make sure hes okay. He goes and sits down, and I go back to riding the track. A few minutes later, said nanny comes up to me, and hands me a phone, and demands "YOU MUST EXPLAIN YOU TO MOTHER". Shit. I get the phone, and I talked to the nicest lady I have ever met. Explained to her what happened, said the kid was just shaken up, and she told me "Thank you, don't give it another thought, have a nice day!"

tl;dr

Not all moms are douchebags.

I'm sorry but in a lot of these cases it is the kids fault.

When i was growing up and fucking around in the skate park or shredding laps on the hill i KNEW to be extremely mindful of people that were bigger and better then me. Not only because they could accidentally pummel me but even more so OUT OF RESPECT.

kids these days just don't give a fuck. They think the whole mountain/track/park is there personal playground and it is your responsibility to avoid them
