Well, it's that time again, grass is growing and lawns are being cut, mom's handin over the bank card and you're lookin for some sick new skis to help shred the gnar. sooo if you havent the faintest idea which ski will help you land your switch triple cork 1440 onto c rail, double switchup pretzel 810 out. here's what to do.

FIRST: GO TO A SHOP

- look at their stuff, ask questions, find a price range, get ideas.... GET STOKED!

THEN: LOOK ON GOOGLE

- seriously

http://google.com/

it's awesome, and has lots and lots and lots of information.

THEN (STEP 3) COME ON NS AND ASK US!

(after using the handy searchbar, located in the upper right)

we know a lot about skis, and love helping kids find sick sticks. but we don't know alot about YOU!

so here's what you do, when making a thread tell us all this stuff.

here's what it would look like if i were to post a thread asking for help on a new pair of skis.

(important stuff is in CAPS(!))

Hello, my name is Mike and I ski in the THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST (location). I am an ADVANCE TYPE 3+ SKIER (ability level) that skis everything. but, what I'm looking for in this future pair of skis is a ski that PERFORMS IN (POWDER)(TIGHT TREES) and I like (HITTING BIG CLIFFS AND GOING FAST!) (this is what you want out of a ski. I am 17 5'10, 170 pounds (your body type is important) and my BUDGET(!) IS no more than $700 without bindings.

so, lets recap, to recommend a ski for YOU, I need to know:

LOCATION

HEIGHT/AGE/WEIGHT

ABILITY LEVEL

BUDGET

WHAT KIND OF SKI DO YOU WANT

So please, feel free to ask for help, that's why were here. Just please, make it easy for us to help you.

really good thread and should be stickied, but I think (that the) use of (Parentheses) was a little (bit excessive)))

how to buy a ski:

do you like the graphic?

if yes --> buy it

if no --> don't buy it.

its not like the fucking thing is gonna turn your mediocre ass into something valuable to society, so just go spend some money.

how to buy a ski:

1. think kind of ski you want

2. look at favorite brands, find skis you like

3. read reviews online

4. decide you want said ski

5. buy said ski

ns isn't even needed

If you are serious, I have to clarify that not everyone gets to test all the skis he might want to buy... For example, I live in Finland and I have to order skis, if I want any skis other than Salomon or K2 park models... Because of that I´ve had to ask the NS´s opinions a couple times. But yes of course, if you can test the ski options you´re considering, do it, and you may not have to rely on some strangers opinion.

cant test skis in the shithole of the midwest.. indiana. saw a test tent in park city and about shit my pants, you guys are so lucky.
and of course sticky this

how thomas buys a ski:

1. talk to on3p friends

2. see which ski he thinks will make them think he is cool

3. suck penis

4. ask them for discount

5. ask mommy for correct ammount of money

6. receive skis

7. repeat untill entire on3p quiver is full

8. repeat again when skis get new name/graphic

If you take out step 4, and substitute jibberish for on3p, clothing for skis, you just described 90% of ns.

Thomas is a cool kid who knows a good product when he sees one.

or Line skis.

I wouldn't recommend going to a store if it's not a good one, they're just going to tell you hellbents are the best ski and want to charge you $800 for them. Some stores like Evo are good but most sell everything way overpriced and only have the main brands like K2.

Let's not hate on Evo. They may cost a little more, but at least you know you'll walk out with gear that's best fit for you and you won't have to replace it the next season because it didn't work like you wanted.

Specialty stores will always be better than coming to NS where many of the opinions are brand fanboys who will immediately regurgitate the same stuff they've read on every other thread and really have absolutely no clue what they're talking about.

guess what?

that happens at a lot of stores too.

i'll agree with your, stores like Evo are the exception. i've been in there a couple of times and i always leave feeling like i worked with someone who actually knows their shit and genuinely wanted to please the customer.

but when i go in to most ski shops they push me towards a product they happen to have in stock or that they carry even if it's not going to be the best thing for the job.

That happened to me this year, I said I loved my old Invaders, and I wanted a ski like that again. The guy said I have the perfect thing for you, showed me Chronics. I eneded up getting them because I knew that an Afterbang or an Anthem would basically restrict me to the park. Still, you may think shops are in it for you, which they are, but they are mostly focused on getting rid of old or unpopular gear.

This.

Ski stores are also businesses, who don't want loads of skis left over at the end of the season, so will push people to buy them.

You wanted something similar to invaders, but you didn't want a ski that would restrict you to only park? The anthems and abangs are probably the closest skis to invaders, and nothing restricts you to just park except for your ability.

step 1: use your head

step 2: buy skis and go skiing!

I realize thsi will be hard for many people on here, thats why they make snowboards though, those are super radical I hear and then you can bitch about those damn skiers cutting you off as you sit on your ass at the drop in to the jump

Sure ski shops are a business at the end of the day, but so is every ski company on here, no matter how small or core they are. They still need to get rid of old inventory. NOW, when shops push the wrong thing on you just to move old product, that's lame and I totally don't condone it. But also, there's a saying in the ski industry that actually makes a lot of sense: buy early, you get what you want. buy late, you get what you deserve.

LOCATION: Pacific North West (crystal mountain, Wa)

HEIGHT/AGE/WEIGHT: 5'8''/ 14/ 130lbs

ABILITY LEVEL: EXPERT

BUDGET: Around $600

WHAT KIND OF SKI DO YOU WANT: Powder ski that can do every thing, like A JJ or sir fracis bacon.

yea that load of cum I sprayed you with sure was stiiiiiiiicky, bitch now go make me a ham sandwich.... AND YOU BEST cut off the motha fuckin crust ho

quite and advanced skieri want a park based ski that can do the odd pow day now and then

dont really have a price range but sort of cheap cause bindings cost loads !!!

sorry dont know my weight in pounds but im 90kg

NO MORE "I'M PRETTY SURE"s in gear talk. It gets really frikin annoying for everyone when people give info that is completely not true. Like s4's arn't rockered at all, their full camber. Yet every thread about people are saying they are rockered. (i work at a shop and i just bought S4's). Their only saying that because they saw it somewhere else.

Sparknotes: Don't post advice unless your 100% sure.
