How long are your skis?

Recently I have seen lots of comments about the length of Andri Ragletti's skis, and although it is a personal choice, people have lots of different ideas of how long skis should be. What length did you choose and why? Is there a minimum length somebody should ski based on their height? I'm 5'10" and I ski a 183 faction prodigy. I ski mostly all mountain but dive into the park occasionally so I wanted a long ski that would be stable at high speed, but still soft and playful enough to hit some park laps.

Your skis should be around nose height on average. Your skis are probably too big for you. You want them around nose height because they’re more maneuverable for your height. Having a ski too big is like skiing on a railroad track

No. That’s a common misconception. It all depends on the skis shape and profile and stiffness. On a ski with lots of rocker you would want to size up to keep them stiff, stay true to size for a softer more snappy ski. It just depends on how the skis shaped and how the rocker or camber is and how stiff or soft the ski is. And what your using it for

I’m 5’8 on 176 Jeffrey’s right now and really glad I went on the longer side. Much more stable and chargy.

5’10 150. Depends on the shape of the ski and what you are trying to do anything from like 175-190 can work for me. Spend most of my time on a 186 and it feels correct for skiing hard in a fairly directional way.

I am a pretty aggressive skiier and I have had no issue with the length. I prefer the length because the prodigy’s are pretty soft compared to what I’m used to. I have a pair of 175 RMU rippahs and they feel way too short despite them being above my eye level.

5'8 (173cm) 145lb and I ski 172 black ops 98 for park and 179 Pettitors for pow skis. Black ops are a few cm shorter than I would usually get but 182 seemed too long for about 90% park use so I went with the 172. Pettitors feel about perfect

Rossi needs to release a 176 or 178 98 and a 180 black ops 118 their sizing sucks

5'11" and all of my skis currently are either a 184 or 185 from park to powder. I've never had an issue with that length and couldn't see myself skiing anything shorter for the type of skiing I like to do.

I’m 5’8” and on a 173 right now purely because:

1) my locker at the resort won’t fit taller skis than that (who the hell designed that ski locker?)

2) my wife’s dad’s car won’t fit longer than that

It feels too short. I would have preferred the 181 version instead.

All my other skis in the states are 177-180.

I'm 5'11" 185 lbs. and my all mtn skis are 182-186. Actual straight tape pull, not the manufacturer's listed length. Unless I'm getting a skinny carving/park ski, I have no interest in going shorter. If I'm looking for some powder boards, I may reach up to 19-somethings depending on the overall shape and construction of the ski, but I'd rather stick to mid 180s.

Without knowing which Prodigy model you're referring to, I'd guess that 183 is probably good for your style of riding assuming you're weight is on the average-to-light side for your height. Of course a shorter, park specific ski would be more ideal for park, but the prodigy at that length will probably behave the way you described it at the end of your post.

6'3" 175lb

Shortest skis I've ridden in the last 4 years is 191, longest is 196. Riding enforcers now in the 191 and love em but wish they were longer.

I bet you can WHIP those things around though

Yeah for sure. My friend is shorter than me but has the same boot size and rides 148s for some reason, I can literally do 720s on flat ground with those

Your def a virgin

I'm 6'1" and I ski on 191s. My skis are a good few inches taller than me. Ski length is a personal preference, I don't think it makes a huge difference in terms of what tricks you can do. My skis are super fat and super long for park skis but I have no problem with tech rail tricks. Henrik skis super long skis for his size and has no problem doing huge spins, so by that logic having smaller skis doesn't necessarily give you an edge over the competition. It might look a little wack but if thats what helps him ski the best why does everyone have to complain?

6 ft even. 191 Caylors for pow. 181 kartels for everyday/park/jib. Will probably go 186 for the next pow ski for improved jib factor. The 191’s stomp everything tho..

How are the ghost trains in pow? They look so fun....

theyre crazy and so fun dude. i have mine mounted +1 from recommended just fyi. they float and surf like no other. super pivoty (which you could expect). you can do maddd wheelies on them but still drop some cliffs. fresh snow or even soft snow they rip. Ill even ride them on groomers as long as everythings soft. generally they surf over crud, but since theyre so light they do get deflected sometimes. light-med crud theyre fine. but if its chunky deep stuff ill jump over to the billy goats. surprised at their durability tho. bases and edges seem wayyyyyyyy soft compared to on3p.

overall super unique and fun ski.

ski length has always been a struggle for me haha im 5ft1"

so i have a pair of faction ct 2.0x 158 cm and a pair of chronic 164 cm . love both pairs there’s many skis i always wanted to purchase but i think i’d be riding way too long.. i don’t know what’s the longest length i could go up to ? i just feel like my options are more restricted

I am 186 cm and my ski 184 cm. My Skis before where shorter, at 178. I feel like I improved a lot by stepping up to a bigger ski. Also I feel much more stable with the longer skis and therefore more confident.

I’d say longest you’d want to go (and we’re talking powder boards here) would be in the 170cm range. Thats 16cm taller than you aka roughly half a foot taller than you. I’ve done 10cm above my head but never 16. That’s a lot of ski lol

5'8" 170lbs(its not a beer belly, its a fuel tank for a love machine). Kartel 98's 176 are my daily riders. Ive skied on longer sticks in prior years but the 175-180 range seems to be a good fit for me.

6'3, I dream of skiiing long skis.

short people are lucky they can choose lengths. we are stuck with damn kids lengths made for light people.

I'm 5'6" (168cm) around 155 - 162 lbs (70-73kgs)

2010 Line Anthem 161cm (indoor dome use only; no point in length for rail gardens)

2014 Line Chronic 172cm

Moment Wildcat 101 - 174cm

ON3P Kartel 116 - 176cm

5'8" 155

Vision 98 186

Blackops 98 182

Stance 96 182

Bacon 184

Rock skis 171

^jerry

your skis length is primarily determined by skill, intended use, height/weight

I’m between 6 and 6’1 and even in park I can’t stand anything under 186, prefer mid 190s on anything but piste

The Blackops is my resort daily driver. I have really enjoyed it this season. It's damp, but not dead, not as poppy as the vision but stays more composed through chop and chunder. So far very happy with the Blackops. I've had it on hardpack, soft and firm bumps, in the woods, up to 5" of powder so far. It feels confident on everything I've had it on so far.

The stance is my hard snow ski, being that it has a couple sheets of metal. It's not as demanding as something like a Nordica Enforcer 94. The Stance is a very intuitive ski, easy to get on edge and make GS style turns. There's enough rocker in the tip and tail to easily release from turns and such. It's by far the most front side orientated ski I have.

The Visions are my touring skis, very light, however they are way more fun than other touring specific skis of a similar weight. Poppy, carvy, just fun all around. They don't like high speed through chop, especially firm chop. I just dial the speed back a bit when things get weird and it stays fine.

love the descriptions man! been wanting both the BO98 and stance.. but prices has been more than I've been wanting to pay, and not really a huge lack of skis... I did ride with a guy on them and it was just awesome to se him go jib and sidehit EVERYTHING.

6'0 175 lbs. Skis are between 183-185. Had some 188 CT2.0s but were a bit much for east coast trees and moguls.

183 prodigy 2.0 - east coast daily driver, these bad boys are stiffffff which makes them ski similarly to the 188 CT2.0 but with more maneuverability

185 Blogs - touring ski, ski shorter though as they're practically full rocker at this point in their life

185 JJ - pow sticks I keep at family home in MT for holiday skiing

Want to invest in some 190ish big day chargers at some point if I move back out west

Yeah man, hope it gives you a little insight. If I had to pick just one, it would be the BO98. So versatile

Prodigy’s are not stiff especially tips/tails and pre/post binding, they’re a little solid under food and somewhat torsionally capable but nowhere near stiff and the 2.0 is the softest of the prodigy lineup

Second this, prodigy’s are a bit stiffer than the average park ski but are pretty comparable to the arv 96

Idk, I have the dragon collab version and the roofbox review a year back seemed to agree. Probably just my frame of reference from the skis I’ve owned too

?? Long as you like em! I think it’s an awesome ski, just didn’t have the same opinion on flex, I’m also only 1/2” taller maybe 5lbs heavier, I lost 30 lbs and it is just a great ski weight for me, for me tho, anything mounted farther fwd than -6 def gotta be 190+ ski, love my bacons but I go over the handlebars every time I ride em

I’m with you. Not sure what these guys using for frame of reference but I also has the dragon collabs and they are not a soft ski. Awesome all mountain, love them in the park, but not conducive to nollies/nose blocks/wheelies/etc. Great pop but not exactly “playful”

5'11, 160 pounds

192 Dynastar Legend Pro (x2)

189 Dynastar Protos

180 Black Crows Solis (touring set up)

FIS racing background, long skis ain't a problem.

Probably going to add the Dynastar M-Free 99 next year, not sure what sizes they're offering. I think longest I heard was a 186, which is probably more like a 182 (if it measures same way as the Protos)
