So me and my buds were talking about how we got our poles and some of the ways we got them were classic. they involved stealing them out of kids hands and while they were at lunch. I wanna hear how you guys got your poles. best storys get +k

I'm not sure really. They've been around since I was like 10, I think they must have been my sisters at some point or hand-me downs from my cousins. Just kind of found them in our basement after my others broke. Still lighter then any other poles I've had.

So i was just sitting there eating lunch, on my computer, scrolling through the internet, then out of no where i saw and ad for my local mountains ski swap, and i was like no way. Knowing that i could find some pretty cheap poles i set my mind on going. Sadly, a week before my physics teacher decided to tell me i needed to go the the Yale physics Olympics and miss not only the ski swap but the preseason instructor gathering. I was disappointing but i knew my team needed me, and i had someone working on my side. I have a friend who said he would pick me up a pair and he did. That following Monday, I arrived at school at approximately 7. I got out, paid him back and put the poles in my car. I dont think anyone of you will be able to beat that incredible THUGLYFE story

went to dumpster behind ski shop

found two giant unmatching poles

cut them to my size

replaced grips with odi bike grips

painted black

if you pay for poles you're a squid.

I have had two pairs of poles in 7 years. both came from my parents garage, and were last used in the 1970's.

My current pair are a frankenstein creation with nothing matching between the two poles except the actual pole itself. They work damn fine though and i have grown quite partial to their alternative feel and appearance.

Im on the track team and as i was getting back from a run and walking through the school parking lot, i spied a pair of line pins half-submerged under some snow. i grabbed them and needless to say, i was stoked.

I had defeat the dragon and save the princess to get my poles. What the hell I didn't know you could buy them

ha I love this thread so much because buying poles is the stupidest waste of money.

my pair which I have used for the past 6 years I won at Freshtival. I lost one on a pow day last winter but climbed up this summer to retrieve it. Unfortunately it was still buried. RIP

my little bb park poles were salvaged from a dumpster and then covered in rasta coloured electrical tape

my current everyday pair was left behind by stupid racers and sat under the chairlift for a week until I decided to get them. mint condish.

If you buy poles for $80 at a ski store, you are doing something very wrong

odi bike grips are about $10 if not more. last time i bought poles, i spent $5 on a pair at a ski swap. and i didn't have to rummage through a dumpster or paint them black. but yeah, you go, you pole hispturrrrrr

I actually have a legit pair right now but I definitely used to just pick them up from ski swaps or the rental room

agreed, poles are the only thing I do not give a shit about. Right now I have some 1970 kids nordic skiing poles, cut down, took the grip and baskets off and put tape grips on.

literally found 8+ pairs in a dumpster. 4 are those nice, good grip Scott straight race poles. Just got to trim some of them down and they're good to go

Pole 1: lost and found, pole 2: swap shed at the town dump (pretty much a free flea market kinda deal)

I found a pair leaning against my truck when it was the only vehicle left in the parking lot. Then I got to build a pair of soul poles for free. (also fuck you for stealing from kids)

haha i just looked this up (not sure why, i just wanted to see if it would be something cool) and it turns out its a site that sells "wood pole maintnance solutions"

fuck you OP for stealing shit from kids. i won some real nice joystick poles and had them stolen on my second day with them while i was at lunch. now i just roll around with some shitty rental poles.

I went to china, stole some bamboo from some panda's, cut them with my shark tooth saw and topped them with panda paws

i got a deal on some composite scotts once, those were awesome. a lot of people dont like em since they break, which they did haha. for the time they worked though they were great. almost wanna get a pair again, the swix ones look really nice. i skied all last year only with BD adjustable carbon poles, even in the park. pretty surprised theyre still intact, haha really should pick up a normal pair again.

I don't steal from people because stealing is kinda whack. I get mine from old lost n found and I got a pair of new Line poles from a homie who got flow from them for a couple years.

I left mine at the mountain one day, and i'm to cheap to buy new ones, so i havent used poles in 4 years

I'm a cheap bastard.

found mine in a dumpster at Mammoth, cut them down to my size and gorilla-glued some Oury mountain bike grips to them.

You realize you can steal all that stuff to right cunt? It's one thing to take some rental poles but damn it i wanna punch you in the face.

one time some park rat got caught stealing poles from the mountain I worked at and proceeded to get his ass kicked by the person who owned the poles.

I think basically if you steal other skiers shit because you're too god damn lazy to buy your own, then you're what's wrong with the freeski community.
