Hood in May

Has anyone made the trek to hood in May? Trying to plan a trip but found out they’re only open on the weekends that month. Is it worth? Looking for other people who have gone.

Woof price raise and limited opening?!

tbh I would go but I’m out with a knee injury so imma have to sit this year out. From past experience I would say absolutely do it, especially if you haven’t even had a hood ski bum experience- it’s pretty much the pilgrimage to Mecca for park skiers.

camping up in government camp and skiing the glacier all day is actually one of the best skiing experiences I’ve had in my life, probably just one of the best experiences I’ve had in general. Get some friends, pack up the car and do it- I promise you won’t regret it. Plus even if you don’t ski every day there’s still the Oregon coast, skating in Portland and tons of hiking/outdoor rec to do. Plus it’s still one of the cheapest ways to ski bum these days.

Timberline should be open during the week.

Valid 7 days a week through May 30th, 2022

This is from their website.

I might be retarded. I think I was looking at meadows instead of timberline. Is timberline the one that everyone goes to over the off season?

Yeah I think the plan is to go up there for 6 days in the middle of May and ski / explore as much as we can. Thinking of either camping or air b n b but im stoked either way.

This. Hood in the spring is a magical place. Camping amongst a bunch of other ski bums all stoked on this special place is really something. Highly recommend that everyone who can makes it happen at least once in their life.

Any tips for Hood in June? Can’t make the spring pass and want to still do a trip with some friends

Yeah Timberline is open every day of the week into august usually. Meadows closes for the season mid may

But please find some way to shower. Hate riding the lift with stanky snow gypsies.

I haven't checked the summer pass price but it's usually pretty cost-prohibitive, that's why everyone spends May there (spring pass). That said, Hood is magical all summer. On my last trip I was out with an injury and didn't even ski, probably will be a similar situation for me this year.

I wanna go to hood to ski this summer Hella bad. Mammoth has no park community. When I went to PC it was fucking amazing all the crazy ass skiers. I can't imagine how dope hood would be.

From what I understand it's better to wait for end of June/Early july when they build the freestyle training camp up on palmer. It costs an extra 25$/day to hit but it looks much better than the park that they build on magic mile for most of june

^^. Pro tips for people who don’t wanna stank on their trip:

1) plan on camping near a creek or river, bring eco friendly shampoo to keep your hair clean.

2) if you’re gonna be shitting in the woods for the love of god please burry it, bring biodegradable wipes and burry em with it. Also make sure you’re shitting well away from all the “camp sites”. One of my favorite hood routines was waking up and going on a 15 minute stroll to go find somewhere to poo in the woods.

3) bring baby wipes- these will keep you clean, wipe yourself down after each day of skiing and you’ll feel like a new person. DO NOT bury them or toss them, they need to go in a trash bag and leave with you.

4) campfire smoke is a strong smell and is better than BO, if you can’t stay clean then make a fire at night and hope you only smell like smoke the next day.
