Has anyone made the trek to hood in May? Trying to plan a trip but found out they’re only open on the weekends that month. Is it worth? Looking for other people who have gone.

tbh I would go but I’m out with a knee injury so imma have to sit this year out. From past experience I would say absolutely do it, especially if you haven’t even had a hood ski bum experience- it’s pretty much the pilgrimage to Mecca for park skiers.
camping up in government camp and skiing the glacier all day is actually one of the best skiing experiences I’ve had in my life, probably just one of the best experiences I’ve had in general. Get some friends, pack up the car and do it- I promise you won’t regret it. Plus even if you don’t ski every day there’s still the Oregon coast, skating in Portland and tons of hiking/outdoor rec to do. Plus it’s still one of the cheapest ways to ski bum these days.

I haven't checked the summer pass price but it's usually pretty cost-prohibitive, that's why everyone spends May there (spring pass). That said, Hood is magical all summer. On my last trip I was out with an injury and didn't even ski, probably will be a similar situation for me this year.

I wanna go to hood to ski this summer Hella bad. Mammoth has no park community. When I went to PC it was fucking amazing all the crazy ass skiers. I can't imagine how dope hood would be.

1) plan on camping near a creek or river, bring eco friendly shampoo to keep your hair clean.
2) if you’re gonna be shitting in the woods for the love of god please burry it, bring biodegradable wipes and burry em with it. Also make sure you’re shitting well away from all the “camp sites”. One of my favorite hood routines was waking up and going on a 15 minute stroll to go find somewhere to poo in the woods.
3) bring baby wipes- these will keep you clean, wipe yourself down after each day of skiing and you’ll feel like a new person. DO NOT bury them or toss them, they need to go in a trash bag and leave with you.
4) campfire smoke is a strong smell and is better than BO, if you can’t stay clean then make a fire at night and hope you only smell like smoke the next day.
