Holy shit check this quality

nice. the quality was very good. skating vid was sick. france is an awesome place too. good post

its cause you have a pc not a mac.

jk

but both vids were sick as hell. skating was mediocre, but looked redicoulously sick because of the cam.

Why does everyone get a hard on for RED footage? if it wasn't shot on the RED, no one would give a shit.

An experienced shooter can achieve very similar results by shooting with an HVX and a proper 35mm adapter with a good lens kit. I bet 90% of the users on here wouldn't be able to tell the difference if you were told it was shot on an HVX with an adapter. I would even have a hard time telling. When you blow it up on the big screen for a 35mm print, THAT'S when the RED cam is used to its full potential and that's when you see the difference. Not saying that it's not a great piece of technology, but I really just see it as overkill for most people.

I don't get why people buy this camera, only to shoot stuff like that. Now maybe that shooter uses it for more than just dicking around, but there is no reason to have a camera like this unless you're shooting feature films, commercials, studio work, music vids etc. And even then, it can still be overkill.

Give me an EX1, HPX, or EX3 decked out with the Letus ultimate over the RED any day...

Feel free to hate, this is just my opinion.

Nicolas Cages new film was shot on the red

Parts of Wanted were shot on the red

Parts of Jumper were shot no the red

Peter Jackson has been shooting with the RED

The list goes on.

If you weren't told that any of those movies used the RED, chances are, you would never know. Digital is taking over.

The camera is out there and is being used for some very big movies, you just don't hear about it.

Oh man that thing IS actually EPIC ... I want that so bad

i dont doubt that digital will become a much larger part of hollywood movies, but still its not going to replace film. like look at that red skate footage i know its a bad example of how good the cameras picture can be, but compared to any normal 16mm footage from some random ski movie and it cant touch it, sure the red gets a sharper super clear picture, but when it comes to being artistic, most digital footage ends up looking extremely digital and fake, its almost like watching a video game.
and if digital really was so great, you wouldnt see 99% of hollywood movies still being shot on film. i agree that the red footage, like in the nicolas cage movie looks amazing, especially for a 20,000 dollar camera, but you look at any newer movie shot on film and in some cases its still way behind.
digital has its place and film has its place.

I think you're wrong, all the old timey photogs used to argue the same thing about still photos, well digital has pretty much taken over and there's no going back. It's only a matter of time for video. Personally I think the coolest thing about the red cameras are the high framerates, I've already started saving for a scarlet.

i really liked the shot of the fountain in the first one, and the slow-mo shots in the skate vid were mesmerizing.

there are a ton of photographers who still mostly use film, and most photographers will tell you that film is better. yeah if its shooting something like skiing or weddings or something for a customer, they are gonna use digital cause its so much easier, but when they go out and shoot say a forrest, a landscape, or maybe go around a town and take pictures of people, they would almost always prefer film, plus look at the large format stuff, thats in a whole different league.
ive been to 2 different schools and taken 3 different photography classes, 2 film and 1 digital, and in each one all the teachers, guest speakers, everyone agrees that film is still much better.
