High north 2003

Last year when I was at camp I heard that they were going to be lowering prices for 2003. Is this true? Does anyone know what the price will be?

Considering they didn't even finish the season because of insurance problems. who knows if they are going to have the camp next year?

I belive that price deduction only applys to those of us completly fucked over during the last sesh, a measly $300 for missing half of our $1500 week.

yep high north jewed you out.

sacrifice, to some its just a word, to others it is a code, what matters is the colony, he is willing to live for the colony, fight for the colony, die for the colony.

think man, 300 bucks isn't that bad considering we only missed 2 days of coaching...we still skiied and there were still coaches there helping us.

i also found it amusing when i got home and found out that the FIS played no part what so ever in that little insurance misshap, it would have accured if shane had just gotten some fucking insurence. Then to not even offer us a refund, no one at that sesh will be seeing a penny of that 300 unless you return next year. I wouldn't be so pissed off if I hadn't worked and saved a whole year to go to that 1 week of camp, and i bearly have enough change to purchase a seaqson pass, i obeously won't be returning next year wich means no discount.

were there any kids there that got caught stoned or drunk out past cerfew. I know in session 2 some kids got busted with like an O on there table when Jay and Glann did room check. we also got caught hotboxing the gondola in town. they cam just as we opened the doors.

at high north 2 years ago 4 of my friends i decided to use a water balloon launcher to bomb people in the parking lot...we ended up hittin this chinese lady who wanted to press charges and shit...that kept us away from water balloons this year...still pretty damn funny though

*travis, you are stupid. the insurance problem would have been aleviated if 'Shane just would have bought some fucking insurance' huh? Is it really that simple? Pretty much out of the blue, the old carrier dropped camp. You can't just go to any ol' insurance agent down the street and buy ski camp coverage. Nobody wants to touch skiing after the litigous 80's. Understand? That leaves only two companies in the biz, both on the East coast. Second problem is we lost insurance on a Friday, leaving nobody in an East coast office to talk to for the whole weekend. You are ripping on Shane, but at least he does it straight. COC's carrier thinks all the coaches are certified by the Canadian Ski Instructors Association or whatever the canuck version is called. That is a whole other story. It took most of Monday to get the insurance lined up, then it was back on track. Besides the few days, on one of which, the Open was to be held, everything was fine all summer. It really isn't that cool that skiingpimp says false things about camp up top either. Camp finished and also had teh sickest session of the summer, the adult camp. Rest assured, High North is not in jeopardy and still is the best camp on teh glacier. Any questions or need me to point out why, email me.

well said Ryan... I think all you kids should think before you talk... there are many ins and outs of the industry, that you don't know about and if you think you know about them, there are a million people who know more than you... Again well said schmies...

any one here go to sesssion 3? and for the dude who asked if there were any girls? yeah well dont go to high north if you are looking for a camp w/ the women, to to world freeride, Or better yetr go to high north and the n bang the cvhicks from world, best of both world!! lol neways if neone wanted to know the chicks from world stay at the delta hotel

i really don't know the entire story but I have heard a lot of things from a lot of people. My main concern on the issue is people like Travis getting screwed over. No matter what the details, my personal opinion is that there should have been more done to compensate for a loss of 1/3 of the session.

Dishwalla im a chick and i was the one asking about how many girls were at high north last season. Im just curious casue when i went to camp I was the only girl there and im kinda hoping to go to a camp where there are some more girls next summer!

I was at session 4 and I can say it was still a kick ass session, met awesome people, did some skiing, so naturally I had a great time.

As for the whole insurance incident, I wasn't that mad because I thought it wasn't shane's fault. When I got back to Toronto, I heard differently...I don't fully know the whole story or what happened. All I understand is that we lost 2 days of skiing, and we didn't get any compensation for it (except $300 dollars off if we go next year). If it wasn't shane's fault, then I am fully okay with that because I would love to go back. But if the problem could have been avoided the entire time, than I am sort of pissed because we didn't get anything back and I really wouldn't want to go back to a camp that is irresponsible about insurance.

I have faith in shane, but I would like a full unbiaed story of what happened.

(which I doubt is very easy to find)

Highnorth was sweet...Adult session was awesome, Shane, the coaches, and all the diggers were cool...and I would definately refer anyone who likes to ski and hangout in whistler

shmies....i'v got nothing against shane, and camp was def. a good time, but that doesn't mean we wern't screwed out of some cash. and tell me this why did you feel it nessisary to lie about who's to blame, as far as i know the FIS had no involvment in it what so ever which means you guys were bull shitting us the majority of the time. and as far as beeing compensated, we wern't.... a discount is no compensation, i don't see why the money wasn't given to us up front.

again high north was amazing when it came to the park and coaching, my only complaint is that we should have been given some amount of compinsation for that mishap.

Did the guys who got caught with weed get kicked out? It says on the High North website there is 'absolutely no tolerence' for drugs and that anyone caught with them will be sent home immediately. I want to go this summer but that could be a problem for me because weed is something of a way of life for me, on and off the slopes. I'm 21 if that makes any difference.

i smoked like twice out there, never got caught. i think they only care if they find it in your room, and they only look in the fridge and kitchen and shit

Never did I place the blame for anything which occured. As far as anything else spoken...most likely pure speculation at the time. I certainly didn't know and obviously, either did you nor some other staff. If you are so bent out of shape, why not discuss the issue directly with Shane, or better yet, have a parent do so, rather than come on here and possibly trash a guy's rep and his camp practices with careless words. I'm sure you still have his e-mail or contact info. Understand? Take the initiative instead of being a whiny bitch.

I will take blame for the FIS rumour. At the time, what I had heard through non-High North related channels was that a lawyer involved with FIS had pointed out what had happened with the insurance situation. Shane had no part in not owning up to that situation, that was entirely my fault. I apologize to all of you guys for that, but at the time it was the only thing that I had heard.

Shane feels terrible about the situation, and for next year he is taking steps that ensure everything is dialed in WAY in advance. High North will not die, it is just going through growing pains.

You see people want no rules in our sport. The rules were created for a reason, and that reason is that uncertified inverts have already been proven extremely dangerous.

The problems with insurance are just a part of keeping the organized FIS straightjacket off of our sport. We want to not have to hit waterramps to flip on snow, and like it or not, this is what we go through.

The fact that Shane can even pull off this camp is amazing, and I have the utmost respect for him. High North is the only Newschool skiing only camp in the world. It really started the revolution and gave us our sport.

There have been problems, and I wish every day that those people at session 4 wouldn't have had to go through that.

However, the fact that Shane puts his neck on the line every day at that camp to keep our sport true to the movement is something that I'll bet nobody on this site would have the guts or means to do.

I for one support him, and will continue to do. He is offering what he financially can to the people that lost out. It may not seem fair, but there are so many costs for the camp, that there's not much room in the overhead.

And if you feel you have been treated unjustly, talk to Shane before you bash him behind his back on an internet site and thereby risk the future of our sport.

I'm over it.

schimes, well 'whiny bitch' just so you aware before you 'bash my rep' even more i made sure to drop shane a line as soon as i got home (4 months ago) infact i droped him 2 and have yet to recive any response, wich means in my mind somone doesn't want to talk about it. And their is no reason why we shouldn't have been given cash back, With what you charge us to attend HN someone is getting fucking rich off that camp and could have eaisly afforded to compensate us.

and i wouldn't be complaining if things were properly handled, and they wern't. And it seems to me that your engaging in just as much whining as i am.

segmentclothing.com

and yes i respect shane more then anything, he has abeously contributed more then his share to our sport, he's also one of the nicest people i'v ever met. I am not attacking him personaly and if i have that was not my intent, i have the ut most respect for all those guys. But mabe some people don't realize what some of us did just to go to one week of camp. I'm through complaining, it abeously isn't going to help anything. High north is a great camp, and sesh 4 was just unfortunate.

segmentclothing.com

Travis, you contradict yourslef plenty. Keep trying to talk to Shane if you are so shaken up by it. He is a very busy individual. Second, I don't charge anyone for camp. Third, no one is really getting 'fucking rich off of it.' Shane spends so much money to make it happen. He really doesn't make a killing at all. He enjoys running camp. Lodging for staff alone runs over 65 grand for a summer. The stereo equipment cost almost 10 grand. We eat like kings, that isn't free. All activities payed for for the week, like mountain bike rentals and paintball for everyone is expensive. Here we haven't even talked about tickets, the van he bought, cat time for course repair, coach's checks, and lane rental. Ouch on the pocketbook. To reiterate, if you are eating dirt right now, beacause you spent all your money on High North this summer, call the guy. He's back in the country on the 5th. Communication is pertinent to resolution. Think snow.

yea, i agree, where else could you go for a weeks vacation for that much. let alone with coaching, meals, and tickets

I understand what you put into it.

I was a camper for three years. I had to sell my soul to the devil to go. High north took all of the money that I had in the world.

But it was worth every penny.

I'm over it.
