hendrix sucked

Jimi Hendrix laid the foundation for modern electric guitar playing. He did what nearly no one else did: by crank the gain and volume to max he maximized the dynamic range of his guitar sound. This techique enabled him to make quiet notes sound quiet and make louder notes fucking SCREAM.

To make it simple, by doing the latter it forces the guitarist to exercise tact and control and use technique to create his/her sound.

Jimi was the first to do this, or at the very least, the first to do this WELL. No guitarist sounds like Jimi Hendrix. That sort of uniqueness deserves credit.

Randy Rhodes owes his influence to Jimi. Every modern metal guitarist owes their sould to Randy Rhodes, including Dimebag Darrel. And everyone, including Michael Amott, Christopher Amott, Jeff Loomis, Zack Wylde, etc. owe their sound to Dimebag and Randy. Thus, you can see where this all started: Jimi Hendrix.

If influencing every modern electric guitar player doesn't qualify someone as the best ever, then I don't know what does.

Ok I watched the movie and I was impressed by the skill the guys has, but so what? I didnt heaer his soul in the song. And you say that Hendrix sucks? HE was the best and will stay the best! Maybe he wasnt tech like a couple of new guys, or could play as fast as them, but he hsi songs are just incredible, you can fell teh music.

And for the best guitarist here's my top 3, not in order because they are all great: Jimmy Hendrix, Steve Vai and Joe Satriani.

everyone calm the fuck down. yes, hendrix isn't the greatest guitarist who ever lived, but he revolutionized the genre and the instrument and composed some rather kickass music.

ur dumb, n a faggot, but thats what u want to hear cuz u made this thread to piss ppl off

hendrix owned and had some of he most innovative ideas

but les paul is the greatest thing that ever happend to music, ever, no one can top him

your joking, jimi hendrix is the shit and he will always be the shit. give the guy some respect half of his life he was on acid and he still rocked out

all guitarists have their strengths, you can't just sum up all of great guitaring into just on person and name them the kind. halen was incredible with his tapping and complexity in general, metheny is incredible with his complexity and grace in jazz guitaring, jimmy page, brian may, stevie ray, etc. etc. hendrix brought along what we know as the electric guitar today. in a sense, he is the greatest for having the creativity to discover what can be done with a guitar, but it just comes down to the point that you can't just name one guitarist as the best.

no you couldnt nick you dont know shit about jimi, thats me and Mommy that is your opinion and i respect that, but its obvious that your opinion is wrong sry kthnxbai

. yes, Hendrix was an amazing guitar player and writer. but whether or not you like him is your opinion, which you are completely entitled to. Remember there are people in this world who acutely listen too and enjoy country music, or jazz fusion, or even you kids that listen to that synthesized hip hop stuff that I can’t stand. It’s all a matter of opinion and it's all music. It’s all based on the same theory. rhythm and chords, notes and harmony; all the same throughout the world. a G major 7 is the same no matter where you are. Hendrix was good, but how good he was is up to you. just don't shoot him down for no good reason. open your mind and look at it from an esthetic standpoint and you'll see.

after what I already said I still can't believe you said the man sucked. first he did something amazing in a time when no black man could become as popular.he's a legend and the man is dead now so give hendrix the fucking respect he deserves. until you can play in woodstock shut the fuck up.

All along the watchtower is dylan's song first

Jimi hendrix was on and off, but really janky at times. Overrall yeah most stuff was over 3 chords, but that is blues

Just because he wasn't the fastest shredder on the planet doesn't mean he sucks at guitar. What makes him a great guitar player/musician was his creativity, and the show that he put on. And for someone to say that Jimi sucked is compleatly thier opinion, but you still have to respect that. One thing that pisses me off so much about music is when people try to tell other people what bands suck and what bands are good. Music is all about preference, and that's the beauty of it, there's genre of music for pretty much anyone. Music now is starting to get too "trendy." Musis is enjoyment, and people get enjoyment from different styles of music, and mommy obviously doesn't enjoy Jimi, and that's cool, not all people do. Although I do think it was quite unnecessary to come on newschoolers and creat a thread about it. And wow there is soooo much hate on this site.

how the hell has this thread lasted, its fucken pointless the guy who made this thread is just a dickhead seeking atention. wee all know hendrix kills it so leave it at that

everybody has their own bad tastes

leave it at that

youhave to look at the time when he was around they didnt make guitars for left handers and he learned to play a right handed guitar upsidedown and it was just new the way he played thats all there are tons of better guitarists today we all know that but thats like saying theres better than elvis or beatles etc.....they just started it thats all thats why hes on the pepsi commercial he got things going to the direction we have today

jimi hendrix was really good...definately the most influencial guitarist...but Jimmy Page was probably the best...if you start saying shit about how fucking dumb i am, i'm just going to assume that you dont know anything about either guitarist....download some of the BBC recordings (British Broadcasting) by led zeppelin, than you will realize, also "No Quarter (Live)", incredible. jimi hendrix is definately in the top 3 though.

I used to think the exact same way as you. I know Hendrix and Page were great rock guitarists. Very influential and cool indeed. But after listening to other guitarists, like Steve Howe (Yes), Jeff Beck (The Yardbirds, Solo), Al Di Meola (Return to Forever), Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Hacket (Genesis), Robert Fripp (King Crimson), Pat Metheny, Paul Butterfield, Alex Lifeson (Rush)...I could go on; I've realized that guys like Page, Hendrix, Pete Townshend, Tony Iommi...Though they are great, are nowhere near at the top of their game compared to some other guys.

I'm certainly not trying to demean them and their work, because I too quite enjoy it, but they are overrated in my opinion. This of course doesn't mean they suck, like mommy incorrectly stated. They're just...not as good as many think.

I also don't beleive it is possible to pinpoint a single best guitarist, or to compile any precise list of top guitarsist for that matter. Guitar is far too versatile an instrument to simply state one guitarist as the best of them all.

first of all tofu, burn in hell.

secondly, as this has been said several times before, the theory that jimi hendrix used in his sonds was something that had never been done before, and musicians are still trying to study how he played. he could play clean leads and distroted rythyms simaltanesouly. he could play the guitar as well left handed as he could right. he would play entire concerts with the guitar upside down. of course there are guitarists that rival him, maybe even beat him, but to say that "hendrix sucked" is probably the most ignorant thing ive ever heard aobut music. if you asked someone who was as good as jimi hendrix, they would tell you that he was one of the greatest musicians in histroy. so you and your stupid-ass opinion which is not based on any musical knowledge is wrong.

TuFo, your are fucking DUMB. As good as Hendrix? aka you looked up the chords to a couple of his songs and you can kind of play them? fucking moron

yes...sadly alot of those guitarist only had some great pieces (besides Jeff Beck), Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix had tons of great pieces, and then they improvised all of them live, for example, all of the BBC recordings of Led Zeppelin, Jimmmy Page reworked all of his solos and made them better...Stevie Ray Vaughan is amazingly talented, but unfortunately one-dimensional.

here is my opinion on guitarist as far as technical skill and writing ability:

1.Jimmy Page

2.Jimi Hendrix

3.Eric Clapton

4.Stevie Ray Vaughan

5.David Gilmour

6.Jeff Beck

7.Robert Johnson

8.Eddie Van Halen

9.Paco De Lucia

10. Eddie Hazel (Maggot Brain by Funkadellic)

what do you guys think?

That really is a ridiculous thing to say, though I respect your opinion. But I have to disagree when you say guys like Steve Howe, Pat Metheny, Al Di Meola, or Robert Fripp have only a few great peices. Those men have never ending lists of works that today's best guitarists still fumble over, and are completely awe-struck by.

As for Jimmy Page, I know he rocks. He's also an amazing song writer. I love him. But, I'll be the first to admit, he his extremely sloppy as a guitar player. And re-writing solo's isn't anything to brag about, though I love all his solo's on the BBC Sessions. There are many guitarists who can improvise wildy different and amazing solos on the spot.

And to put Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page or David Gilmour on a list of the best technical guitar players before Jeff Beck, Steve Howe, Pat Metheny, and many others is inncorrect I feel. Like I said, I don't think it's possible to compile a list of THE BEST. The best guitarist in the word is most likely some jazz guitarist no one has ever heard of.

Hendrix revolutionnized music, he came up with his own style, and its mainly because of him that so many guitarists rip the shit nowadays....directly or indirectly, hendrix inspired pretty much every guitarists.

try to come up with something no one ever tried, its hard

so does that mean Hendrix is second place to the likes of people like Muddy Waters or Robert Johnson, what about Chuck Berry.

yea, you gotta put steve howe on that list, and randy rhoads, and rye cooder...shit man, you put eric clapton in third what are you thinking...i bet you think fucking aqualung is the best guitar solo ever

hendrix played the guitar as any left hander did, theyve always had leftty guits if you string it upside down its lefty, but its rumored jimi could play a right hander holding it left handed better than any old fool could normally, but for fact, jimi did record the bass track to all along the watchtower on an upside down bass, and that bass track is fucking ill

Eric Clapton, not a good guitarist? *blink* enlighten me oh wise man. and aqualung solo is really good. It is really hard to put guitarist into a list, but in my opinion that is a good list... maybe next time i will just list a bunch of really good guitarist that could match or get pretty close to matching Jimi Hendrix's guitar ability.

maybe i will just make a new thread, "good guitar players"
