Helpful skiing tips that you may not know...

If you take lunch with you avoid cheeses and other fatty foods that taste best at room temprature, go for jams or chocolate spreads not only will they taste better they will also give you an energy boost to get back on the hill after lunch

My Threads!
I live like 30mins from my resort. Always turn the heating off like 10mins before i get there, that way im not getting out of a toasty car straight into the cold.

i believe you mean "fog" instead of "defog like a mother ffer"...
:D
and to the pole guy above^^
just get some cheap rental poles; if you break one you can just swamp em for someone elses in the lodge...i know thats mean but it works so great ...

Not really the way i look at it. I have a pair of Scott Team poles and a pair of rental rocket/junior poles. The rental rocket/junior poles are better for park because it's cheaper metal and they will bend when you fall awkwardly as opposed to a sturdy Scott Pole which will jab the shit out of you. Did i mention they are smaller too. Some bigger rental rocket poles are like solid steel with Iron and those would prolly fuck you up.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i was always under the impression that carbs are turned into energy quicker than protein. isn't that the reason why athletes are told to eat pasta and such before a big game?

and ya, mittens are way warmer than gloves

this thread is legit though, lots of useful information

no no no you're right. at dinner you want to eat a huge meal with lots of protein and carbs to replenish your muscles and prepare yourself for the 8 hour fast that is sleeping

most people on here know nothing about nutrition

Always keep your lift tickets on a Key Ring you leave on your gear. That way you can give it to a friend if you bail on the afternoon or switch it between gear if you are on a multi-day.

if you keep snapping out of your bindings prematurely, check to see if the heel pressure is set correctly to your boot before cranking those din levels.

Also only increase the din level by 1 at the max. Its better to find out that they are set to loose then to find out there set to tight.

when your ptexing a ski dont let the flame go yellow, keep the burning ptex close to the ski and keep the flame blue.
when waxing skis only let about 4 inches or so remain "wet" as you pass the iron over it.
if your skis are really fucked take a sander to the bases

Dont be lazy and carry ALL of your gear in from your car...prevents unwanted rust on skis.

Lost and Found will sometimes let you borrow gloves, hats, or even goggles depending on the Hill and depending on how polite and courteous you are. Sure beats spending 60+ bucks on gloves that u forgot at home. Don't abuse it... that's why mountains get strict about it

Know how to check the forward pressure on you, and your friends' bindings before cranking your DINs to 500. solves a lot of "why did my ski just pop off? issues.

turn your DINs down to "0" over the summer time. releasing all that tension on those springs for a few months while they're not in use can only be a good thing.

you should also wipe down your skis with a towel after every day

this will ensure your edges wont rust

When clipping in on a slope, cross your legs so your uphill leg is downhill (with your legs crossed) so it supports you when clicking in, then you have your downhill leg clipped in first and it makes it a lot easier to clip your second ski on.

I always do this and I feel so smart when I do. If you don't do this already, it is super solid advice. It makes putting skis back on when on a steep slope easy.

dont yell or make fun of kids trying to learn our sport we were all at that point to.... if you see a kid fall on a rail time after time, help him out show him some points a lil bit of somthing goes a long way and remember KARMA is a bitch....... also proper park edicate get off the LANDINGS of jumps it hurts when you get landed on.

The most important gear is the boot. - You cant ski good skis in bad boots but with the perfect boot (fitted properly) you can have a good day with bad skis. first the boot then all the other gear

the easiest, and cheapest way to get through the day (food wise) is to eat a huge breakfast at home, have a lunch of one maybe two cup-of-noodles later in the day, and that should take you to dinner. fuck resort prices

I know there's a lot of bunk about food, but if I could add one more thing. About the carbohydrate thing, what with them giving quick energy, this is true, but the secret to getting the energy from carbolicious foods is by getting WHOLE GRAIN products. Regular white bread is made from white flour, which actually stores in your body as a starch if you don't expel all of the built up calories that you get from it. This is why whole grain is the better choice. Whole grain products fill up the same amount of space in your stomach, but yield fewer calories. If you stay away from other "White" foods, (i.e. rice, white potatoes, 'white flour noodles', etc.) it will actually help eliminate the thin layer of fat that your body keeps in front of your abdominal muscles. Advantage? Healthier carbohydrate foods = weight loss = easier hucking = defined muscles = WAY more poontang. Best of both worlds if you ask me.

Sounds like a Win-Win situation eh.

Sorry if this has been said before, but invest in a good spine plate if you're trying big stuff, you gotta keep your spine safe, nobody likes back problems

nahh put the boot on. Bang your heel to slide it back into the heel cup and then buckle the second buckle from the bottom. This will slide your heel back into the heel cup. Then continue buckling the rest of your bbuckles

oh yeah. on cold days wear mittens.

they will make your day better. and if you wear a bandana, put something under it like a neckwarmer or one of those goofy things with a nosehole and mouthholes( they look ridiculous but they are super warm). if you don't know what im talking about heres a link to a picture of one.

Proteins most usefulness is in rebuilding your muscles after using them alot, 90% of this is done within 30 minutes of finishing whatever you are doing.

Really big skiis make you go faster and make cushy cliff landings.

When you go to the ski hill put your ski socks on right before your boots, alot of times your feet sweat in the car and that makes them get cold much easier.

If your gunna go BC and hit cliffs and jumps, dont use camel packs when you land on them and they blow up you will hate your life.

alcohol lowers your core temperature but increases temps in your extremities like your fingers and toes.

mythbusters did a show on this.

cheesesticks and beef jerky are the best lift line food items. although you can fall on them and it doesn't matter.

Beef jerky and sunflower seeds are great snacks, they provide alot of energy and are relatively healthy compared to other options.

In dutch there is no other word for "multi purpose" besides polyvalent ...There was no "showing off" intended it was just the first word that came to my mind ;)
