Help me straighten out my quiver for next year

alright. at the moment i have 179 seth vicious mounted at +4. they kill everything the mountian has to offer. they're great on hardpack, they make tight snappy turns in pow, and with a light swing weight, i can toss 'em around easily in the air.

i used to have the 189 seth vicious, and they made huge arching turns at mach 4. at the time i needed to make snappier turns, so i downsized to the 179. due to financial reasons, i could only have one pow ski at the time.

now i have the opportunity to own more than one ski. i want one everyday ski.. something that can do everyting the 179 seths are doing for me right now. Then yet another pow ski that makes those huge big ass arching turns in pow. i want one shorter ski at around a 180cm length, and one longer one at around a 190cm length.

one option is to stick with the 179 seths and get that other big pow ski i was talking about. these are the ski i'm taking into consideration-

190 VCT

189 Maden AK

188 Jp Vs. Juliens

190 Gotama

190 Mojo 105

Tha 187

189 Pontoons

now the other option would be to get rid of the 179 seths and step it up to the 189s. then i would need to get something around a 180cm length that kills it all mountain. i'm considering these skis, but are open to other ideas-

179 maden ak

179 prophet 100

183 sir francis bacon (don't know how this will do all mountain...)

183 volkl gotama

at the moment, i'm thinking of getting the 189 seths and the 183 volkl gotamas. my worry is that the gotamas are almost as burly of a ski as the 189 seths, but that's why i'm asking you guys. somebody has to know.

now it's off to find me a park ski.. ahh. as much as i don't like it, i was a fucking park rat this year. i don't give a shit about skiing all mountain as well as park on this ski, so don't offer up things like public enemys. here are some park skis i've been considering-

183 STL

181 T-hall

next years 182 Troublemaker

181 Mojo 80

179 Ninthward Rory Silva Pro

182 Surface Watch Life

179 Maden AK mounted at +10

try to remember that i'm a stick. 6'3" and 155 lbs. my legs most definitely aren't dump truck sized, but i consider myself an advanced aggresive skiier. so... what do you guys think i should do?

since i'm not a huge guy, softer skis usually are a little more up my alley, but i'm open to anything.

thanks for the help.

dude take what i say with a grain of salt but id say keep your SV's, get some VCTs for big moutain, and a pair of t-halls or next years TM's for park in the sizes you mentioned..

that would be the sickest quiver yet.

you would dig the JP's for pow days at mammoth. also, i've been riding motherships centermounted in the park this year and they are ill.

yeah, i've been skiing centermounted pistols in the park all year. they fucking kill it, but everyone tells me i need to spin to win and try out a real park ski. i don't know how i'll like it as i've never skiied anything under a 95mm waist.

you should get all maidens, that would be sweet. or id say get either gottamas or ants for the biggest skis, sir francis bacons, then maidens mounted at +10.

i'm way to fucked up right now to actually read and post...but I will.

but without reading anything......

189 toons.

186 BMT.

179 SV.

FUCKING SICK.

ill write more later

193 big daddy, I know it's not a twin, but if you really want a fast arcing ski, lays down those figure 11's. If you want to land switch in pow use your sv's. I'd say get the pontoons (I'm guessing you're still at mammoth). I bought spats last year, best decision ever, makes the anticipation for a pow day that much better because I get to use them. Trying to have a haul ski and quick ski is a little silly to me unless you're really going to pick what kind of terrain you're going to ride every day. I kind of have that, usually end up leaving my 188 K2 axis XP's (super stiff) at home because I'm more able to ski at speed on my nimble skis than be nimble on those beasts.

As Far as a park specific ski, I had that thought last season too, bought a pair of stl's, they were great in the park, but if I wanted to take a run anywhere else they sucked. I figure unless you're skiing strickly park or competing get a more versitle fatter ski. Slow spins look better.

So, get the pontoons, or buy my spats so I can.

at 189 cm and 130mm underfoot i'm a little skeptical on the pontoons. the 189 was almost kicking my ass, so if the pontoon is ANY harder to ski.. i'm fucked.

as of last week that was exactly what i was going to get. i'm leaning towards other things now.

i want my big ass pow ski to be one that i could take on a heli trip (not that i would ever go) and use it for stuff like that. i can't see the jp vs. julien being the best ski for that, but i may be wrong.

enlighten me.

Get the STL's for park and some VCT's for powder and you'd be all good.

I know you didn't mention the VCT but with your current job and the people you know I'm sure you could get a 4FRNT pro form.

That's a good call all around bro. Then Sean once you kill your 179 Seths you should re-up to 179 Prophet 90's then you'd have real definition within your quiver.

In general as for the big skis, stick with either 190 EHP (VCT), Jp's, or the Super Mojo 105's, because these three are light and fairly soft. I know people are going to think I'm wrong but I skied next year Heads and the 105's are awesome but fairly soft, I dig them you would too Sean.

Parkwise go with what you can get your hands on cheap. I know you had fun skiing park this year but not enough to track down a pair of Watch Lifes and pay 5 hundo for them ya know? Cop the Tanners on Proform dog.

good points. aren't the vct/ehp stiff? they would kick my skinny ass left and right...

and the jp vs. juliens... i've been considering them for quite a while. just, i've heard they are more of a back country jib ski. i don't want that. i want a backcountry pow ski. something that skis like the 189 seth vicious.

christ, a made'n at +10 for park...lol thats wicked

defiantly get a skinnier park ski and if you can proform the armadas, do that.

and Silva on Ninthward now...fuck

JEAaaaaaa~~~ bitches, my JP just got here I will OWN all you mofos!!!! Wait...I can't even ski yet...FUK!!!! haha

But lets say its BEAUTIFUL

183 gots are not as beefy as the 189 SV...but close. They do ski shorter cause of the huge ass tail.

but next years are stiffer and have a less obnoxious twin so they shouldn't ski as short.

190 got is also a few cm (at least 2) shorter than the 189 SV...with a huge tail kick. something to consider.

My vote still goes to the BMT. 186, fat, custom flex, pretty wood. you know it is sick.

and the 189 pontoons would be easy to handle. and it is a powder ski. do it.

179 SV are great everyday fuck around sticks. I think keep them or get something similar, 179 made, etc, and get a park ski (STL).

seriously.

189 toons.

186 BMT

179 SV

183 STL

Fucking dope.

scott, i can't afford a custom ski at the moment. the only reason i'm getting new stuff is because i can proform the shit out of them.

custom ski will most definitely come in a year or two when i fill out. i had a dream about it last night and i,m going to get something in mind...

What to say here... Okay. I would say keep your 179 vicious if they're working for you. If not, get 183 Gots or Mojo 105 181s... But I can't see any particularly compelling reason to get rid of the Seths, and keeping them will save you money.

Secondly, get Bacons. They're made to ski longer, remember, by about 10cm. And yet you won't have to worry about switching sticks quite so much because the actual difference in length is less. I haven't put this theory into practice, but after switching from a 180 Ar5 to 189 Seths on consecutive days the bonus of having a quiver of more or less uniform length appeals to me if you can do it without sacrificing performance in the areas you need performance in.

Park ski should perhaps be an Ar6 if you want to go a little softer, or a Mojo 80 181 for stiffer. I like the latter, since you can actually ski it on groomed and icy shit should you wish to, and it'll rip. Ar6s will, I predict, be a good all around ski, and stiff enough to support you at the shorter length, but you don't exactly need an all around ski when you have a quiver. Others will likely be too soft for someone of your size/ability at the shorter lengths. Unless you're into feeling like you've got rollerblades on your feet, that is.

I'm not sure what the Line chronic series is going to be like next year length wise, but that might also be an option if there's one in the 180s. However, my first choice for a park ski for you is the Line anthem, which I think is coming out in a 185, has a 93 waist (you know you want girth), has butter zones, and will retail for like 379.00 so it won't break the bank (and you won't mind so much if you beat up on them; the bargain park ski is becoming a more and more appealing prospect). They look very promising.

So, it ends up looking very interesting.

All-mountain ski: 179 vicious +4

Pow ski: 182 Bacon +reccomended

Park Ski: 185 (I think) Anthem centermounted

It looks odd because your park ski is longest, but it'll feel shorter than the Vicious ultimately because of the centermount, and it's noodly. So you have a ski you're used to, a shorter pow ski that skis longer, and a longer park ski that skis shorter. Well personally, I think that quiver is just a work of art.

(If it was me I'd like to add in a fourth pair like a 191 ANT, 193 EHP, 190 Got, etc etc etc... but if you had trouble with the 189 SV then that's out. But in general, I'd be all over this setup.)

Okay, so you got the 06 Vicious. I'd build of off this. As far as a big powder ski goes, I would be thinking the head Mojo 105. I really like the look of these skis. Okay, so now you got your all mountain and your powder, now you need a park ski. From you considering the Maden as a park ski that I can assume that you like burly stable skis in the park. SO in that case maybe the Mojo 90 or the MSP's or something. How do you afford So many different pairs of skis? Amazing, I use one pair for about 3 years.

Sean, if you plan on being able to afford Custon Capitals in the next year or two, I would try to avoid buying 3 new pairs of skis. Even at proform prices, it can get expensive. I would keep your 179 vicious for an all mountain ski. If you want to mix it up between park a little pow and some trees all in one day, there are few skis better to do all of this.

Secondly, a dedicated park ski. Since you can get Armada proform, get 181 t-halls. You know what a fat ski mounted at center feels like in the park on your 179 pistols, so unless you really like that, a park ski is probably your best bet for the park. Unless you're Andy Mahre. The 179 Made'n @ +10 does sound awesome, but at your weight the t-hall is probably better.

Lastly, your dedicated pow stick. Because of your weight I would toss out the 190 Mojo 105, 190 Gotama, and 191 ANT. So we've got 189 Vicious', 189 Made'ns, 189 'toons, 188 JPs, prophet 100/130s, and I guess 182 Bacons. Since you already have a park ski and an all mountain ski you could take into the park on occasions I'd rule out the Bacons right away. Your 179 Vicious would ski similar to the 189s (and you know how they ski anyway). So I would have to decide between 189 Made'ns, 189 pontoons, 188 JPs, and the Prophets. If you can get reverse camber Made'ns thats something to think about, but maybe cause of your weight go with the JPs, esp. with proform.

I don't have the funds to throw around like you, but I have a park ski, old blue 177 1080s @ center, all-mountain ski, and 1st gen 179 pistols at midsole (which I'm moving to +3/+4 this weekend). I'm buying a dedicated pow stick next year and I've decided to go with the 189 pontoon. I'm shorter than you (5'10) but weigh more (175). I just couldn't resist the draw of the crazyness that is the pontoon.

I forgot to mention VCTs/EHPs and Tha 187. The EHPs are probably too stiff, I know nothing about Tha 187, which leaves the VCT. Probably rips, but stiffer than the Made'n, Vicious, JP, and from I have heard, 4frnts aren't all that great for reliability and warrenty issues.

I can't tell you how disappointing that is. I saw an early specs sheet and I thought there was a 185 length on there.

i ride the jp vs julian and there great pow skis, plus they work allright in the park and are moderate on hardpack. id go with those

getsome ANTS. they are supposed to be sick at everything especially backcounbtry. they are supposedly a softer backcountry ski and they kill it at backcountry jumps also they are supposed to do pretty well on groomers. try them out

... Why some people shouldn't be allowed to post in here, exhibit A.

I'm aware I sound like an asshole, but it's just so irritating to see all the misinformation in here.

Not to sound too much like Iggy here, but get some skis made for you. I think I'm going to go with a pair of Capitals for next season, either the BMT or the El Jeffe.
