On another note I'm out of the Army on Monday. It's the greatest feeling in the world getting your orders and clearing papers. Fuck this shit I'm out.

Any thought to collecting unemployment for a few months? Why the fuck not?
 
I start school January 21st. BAH for my county is $2300 a month so I'll be making more money from that then I do actually being in the Army. I'm on the fence about unemployment. It's a nice bit of extra money but I just don't feel right doing it since I constantly rag on people receiving government handouts.
 
Look at that this way, If anyone deserves a handout, it's veterans man. Plus, take a few months to get on your feet. I have buddies who wished they took the advice of unemployment especially while focusing on school. My bah is 2200 which is fucking lovely. Add the unemployment I collected for a year, I was making more than my e4 pay..

Goverment funds are all bullshit anyway. It's all a big nothing. If they are going to give it out, take everything they will give you because once the money stops from that and the GI..your on your own man!!
 
Holy fuck please don't take unemployment. Set standards for yourself. Everyone on unemployment should have to wear a scarlet letter.

Going to college and getting paid to do it. I took advantage of the year not working and made up for the time I spent overseas. Got a lot of hiking and skiing in plus made time for the million other activities I also missed out on. Sort of like the government paying ya back even though "serving" your country today is a bit of hogwash because it's not about freedom and it's more like working for a giant corporation because wait..you actually are..fuck.

I mean I have no clue what I'm talking about but isn't your education free if you give them so many years and doesn't the gi bill give you enough money to live until you find a job?
 
When you exit the military they promote taking advantage of the unemployment until you're settled in. Ya know, what it is intended for. When you get out your pay stops. What if you have a family and moving across the country? Jobs just do not appear. Especially if you want to start school and don't have your parents to support you. A lot of people have no choice with their bills and families but to renenlist. Some people actually need the goverment benefits.
 
You have a clue because you're on the right track. The housing allowance is for that, housing. Seeing numbers like 2200 is not typical and it just so happens that we are both from NY. Not sure where he is planning to go but I'm lucky where the community college is that I go to 20 minutes from my house. There is another community college 20 minutes the other direction from my house and the allowance is only 1400..go figure. With numbers between 1100-1500 being standard..a little extra help from the man is great. 1200/4 weeks is not enough for rent and to live..and what if the veteran has a child or a family? Well besides a better thought out plan in that instance but unemployment helps. And fuck working for a little while..remember?
 
Yeah I just hate handouts. Move unemployment to a different name and id support it because they earned it. I really don't want to try and criticize you but if you have a kid going into the military you knew what you were getting yourself into and should face the consequences.
 
Ya it is that easy. By Vets you mean those shiny dudes in the Marines commericals. Those are actors. And for the recruiters in your lunchroom, they are acting too.

..don't give a fuck about what people think and collect some funds and enjoy life for a bit. Not talking forever here. Just a few months.

Side note:Not defending my collection of it. Past those days and enjoyed it while it lasted and didn't give 2 shits what joe smoe thought about unemployment benefits, no offense. Rather, I'm defending the case of doing it because it's a great luxury. I mean, benefit..
 
Great options after college. Some vets go straight to the work force..

Some also dive in too quick because our attitudes are set on overdrive. Upon getting out, ya need some time to relax and assimilate to civilian life..money causes huge stress. Adjust to your surroundings then find a job..

Going from getting paid decent to out in the civilian world with no guidance is tough. Planning ahead is smart but let's be real..easier said than done
