Hellbent help!!!!!! quick

169 would be a perfect size for you actually. they measure about 172 and at your weight/height would be perfect. 189....waste of money

True dat. All K2's measure out super whack too,i have them in 179's and i measured them tip to tail and their actually 185 and im around 5'10",so yea, just let it go and find some smaller ones man.

Personally I would go 189. Thats just my opinion though, I like longer skis because i like to charge stuff but if you want something more playful then go for the 179s or even the 169s. You really have to been on your game and ski well to ski the 189s, theres no problem if you are but if you are just getting started or want a play ski then 189 is way too big.

The op is 5'8" and 150 lbs though... I could see a 189 if he was bigger or taller but that seems like overkill.

5'11, 130 pounds. Weight and height are a big factor but it also comes down to the skiing ability and what your skiing too.

I'm a little bit smaller then you and my center mounted 179's feel a bit short...

I would trade them for 189s if i got the chance so i think you should go for it.

i would say too big. i am 5'4" 135lbs and i bought the 179's and i did my research and everybody said go big cuz they ski short. but i found that they were awesome for pow for me (obviously) but they werent as playful as i would have liked them to be. so i just bought some 169's and im gunna be skiing them this weekend for the 1st time. I clicked in them today though and i can already tell a huge difference off the snow.. i cant wait till im on the snow saturday.

If you are a really good skier and can handle a ski that long then go for it, but if you have doubts i would go 179, if you could get them..

oh and my friend told me they run 5cm longer than what the actual size is.
so if it was 179 it would technically be 184cm? is that true?
++karma for a good answer to that

idk about the 5cm length difference...but youd be fine on a 179...or 184 for that matter. i think you have it mixed up maybe? i think theyre shorter in base contact area than measured length if that makes sense

yes the ski is measured short. the running edge length is 184, but if you measure them tip to tail in a straight line, it's 179. and out of that 184 only about 150cm of that are on the snow

dont go 169 thats stupid.
for this type of ski u want to ski it big. got at least 179.
i got 179 obsethes and would have got 189 but i live east coast so its kinda overkill....but if ur skiing pow and trees on a daily basis longer wont hurt.

go 179 ull be happy with em.

thanks guys i got them and i taled to a kid with 179 and he said hed trade me if i didnt like them haha thanks for all the help

One thing I hate on NS is people pressuring other people in to buying a size that is too big for them. It doesn't make you 'a man' to ski a size that is too long for you. Yes terrain does make a difference but a 189 is far too big for you under any circumstances. I just bought 179 obsethed and im 5'11" 170lbs. a good length for an everyday ski. a 179 would be pushing it for you and would be suitable if you were using it strictly BC. 189 is a waste of money, you wont enjoy it.

While I will agree with you that 189 is probably wayyy too big in this situation, I actually totally disagree with you on your sizing opinions. Ski size is an often complicated subject and should be based not only on one's height and weight, but also on their ability, as well as personal preference. For example, I am 5' 7" 145 lbs and I rock 179 AK Enemies for the pow and 176 AR6s in the park. I'm a) good enough of a skier to handle and control skis of these lengths and b) personally prefer longer skis and would thus suggest going a little longer to anyone debating on the subject. Longer skis provide you generally with more speed, more stability, and also allow for easier grabbing in both the park and the pow. If you're coming into a 60-foot kicker, for example, you NEED both speed and stability to make it off that lip and land in control. Similarly, if you drop a 30-foot cliff into deep pow, a longer ski will not only give you a more stable landing, but will also give

Your ski sizes may be slightly long but well within proper sizing. 179aks for pow and 176 AR6 for park are in the upper end of sizing but not overly big for you by any means. But for the original poster A 189 Hellbent which measures ~192cm is too big under any circumstances.

Of course sizing is personal, terrain specific, ability specific, weight and height specific, but there is an upper and lower threshold for proper sizing. Your skis may be slightly long, but are well within your threshold. A 189 hellbent is outside of the comfortable range for the OP.

I prefer a size in the middle of my proper sizing bracket. I have been skiing for 18+ years , freestyle for 12+ and am an expert level skiier. I also know how to size a ski. It really erks me when I see people on here recommending skis outside of someones size bracket. NS is a place many go to get opinions on gear, especially if a demo is unavailable and it can really screw someone up to be getting opinions that are just plain wrong (Not saying yours was at all). I don't say it often, but recommending a 189 Hellbent (192cm in length) for the OP is just plain WRONG.

It also depend where you ski normally.

High speed cliffs jumping open space like in the West or tight woods low speed some moguls and couloirs like often in the East.

First case: go for longer skis 1,85m to 2,00m (1,79 maybe 1,89m Hellbent)

Second case: 1,70m to 1,80m. 1,69

I've bought 1,79m few weeks ago and it's nice ridin' on hardpack open trails but not so nice in moguls and woods.

So I've to buy 1,69m...

yhea they do but 189 is suprisingly playful and they fly over anything in there path and they r supper stable and fun in the park
