So recently i was listing to a couple of resent rap videos of 2015 young thug and shit like that and lemme just say . Rap today is total shit like 80% of rap is fucking horrible . Like some underground like joey badass and flatbush zombies are good etc. but the "popular" stuff is garbage . The worst part is that its making it to ski edits to . so what do you think
 
So many of my friends think shit like Mac Miller and Drake are "fire" I can't stand that shit, I wanna blow my brains out hearing every new song today. This is why I listen to stuff like wu tang, mobb deep and gang starr

You obviously don't understand how good Mac Miller actually is at rapping.
 
Well yeah. Go on Spotify and look at how many people follow Lil Wayne and Drake... My Spotify account is connected to facebook and at least 40 of my friends are following those shit artists and 2 or 3 are following Nas, Wu-Tang, Tupac, Immortal Technique ect. All the preppy douchbags have given these terrible rappers fame that they don't deserve. Its only popular because most of society is brainwashed. People try to enjoy the same things as their friends. There are still some good artists and songs but they aren't popular because people have terrible taste. It's like a disease.

most popular music = shit

most good music = underground

basically don't be a lazy fuck and there is plenty of good music for you to find

Jus sayin thugger took the place of lil wayne already. He stole birdman and his new album is Barter 6. Which by the way has some dank tracks on it. Mostly check and dome but yeah those two songs are incredibly catchy. Sosa also sucks dong in almost every way. I enjoy maybe 2 or 3 of his songs compared to thuggers maybe 10. Thuggers lyrics are also on point if you go read them hes a smart dude. sosa is kind of a dummy with gucci mane behind him doing all the work imo.
 
And to reply to the thread, anyone who says any song today is better than any tupac track, any nas track, any wu-tang track, any biggie, any bone thugs, any tcq, and many many others every created or concieved of is a fucking idiot who should probably listen to dubstep instead, because theyre only listening to the production, which arguably has gotten better

The style of rap has changed. It's useless to compare current rap to the older stuff because they're two different sub-genres of rap. It's not about the lyrics anymore, it's about something that sounds catchy.

I agree with you and that's the problem rap isn't real anymore. All the OG's of the rap game are either dead or they quit rapping. So therefore rap is totally changed mostly for the worst. Except for a couple good rappers like Vince Staples and A$ap Rocky. I think Rocky has always been good and he's one of the last good rappers out which really is a shame.

This is a very dumb way to think. I'm a die hard to the 90s East Coast classics, but there is definitely stuff that has come out recently that is on par with the old stuff.

Even the shit rap is great to listen to when you're getting fucked up. You said yourself that production has gotten better. The lyrics aren't great, but who cares? They're catchy and usually hilarious.

these days if you can put together a 4 bar midi track you're professional mainstream a rap producer.
 
I could talk about this subject for hours. (Read my music interests) I know rap, it's been my favorite genre of music for a long time. I'm not saying I don't respect other people's opinions but here is mine. Rap today is complete and utter garbage disguised with beats that bang. THE ONLY people that have quality lyricism nowadays are Kendrick And Cole. Lyricism is pretty much gone and forgotten at this point. People who call themselves rappers like Fetty, Drake, Wayne, YG, Young Thug. IT honestly disgusts me. Keep it old school.

People liked tupac because of his views and what he said when he wasn't rapping he is sure as hell not even close to the most lyrical or best rapper and songs come out every year that are better then his music
 
There's a lot of rap out there that's still pretty good. It's just not all the popular stuff. I'll come back in later to make a list of good rappers in the game now.
 
I think of it this way.

metal was once very popular in the mainstream. then hair/glam metal came along and ruined it. metal wasn't cool after that. it got old, fat, and moved underground where only "core" fans know or give a shit about it.

rap is going through its hair metal phase right now. it's over the top simple and completely image based. give it 10, maybe even 5 years, and nobody will give a shit about rap besides a small core audience.

None of sosa's actual fans think that. Think about it dude, you're arguing in favour of some bullshit interscope commercial album he made when he was 16 years old, whereas over the last two years he's personally been like the sole driving force behind the evolution of the drill subgenre.

In my opinion rap is slowly making a comeback. Kendrick Lamar, Ghostface Killah, Earl Sweatshirt, Shabazz Palaces, Websterx, MF Doom, Pro Era... there still are many out there being creative, even though they aren't very popular.
