Guns dont kill people........

You come across an important issue to me as well. That's a huge reason why skiing is so important to me. When I ski its as if nothing else matters. Only nature is around and i'm alone with it. It makes me think that nature is that omnipresent being that so many people are searching for.

and where do u suppose those illegal guns came from. did gangbangers build them in the same place they make their crack. i think not. they were all legal guns at one point. ban the legal ones and they cant ever become the illegal ones.

so when you get shot are you gonna say "hey guns aren't legal! wait a minute! no no none of this is adding up at all..."

or you can get shot by an illegal gun and shoot the mother fucker with your legit one.

i never said it was impossible that would be idiotic of course you can. but its a hell of alot harder then. i dont expect gun violence to stop completely. but a reduction would be nice. there are still gun deaths in england, and no doubt they are smuggled in from other countries, but handguns are illegal there and take a look at their gun violence compared to ours.

and to the guy above you a) i dont plan on getting shot, and regardless i wouldnt own a gun cuz i dont believe in them. so no i wouldnt "shoot the fucker back"

Crime rates by firearm are less in England and around the world, this is true. However, their crime rates of serious crimes in general are higher. With vastly different gov'ts, police forces, etc, it's hard to extrapolate one countries data and make a conclusive argument about a different country.

well guns exist whether you believe in them or not.

no one plans on being shot

a gun could be the only thing that would save you or someone that you love

alcohol can be bad for you, but it has to be drank.

how is a gun bad. a bad person has to shoot it

regardless of that factor you have to agree that if guns in the US were illegal the number would be drastically reduced over time. true they could be purchased over the boarder, but the added difficulty would make for less overall guns. true they would never be completely eliminated but they could be reduced by quite a bit. and since they were those of you that claim you need a gun to "protect yourself" wouldn't need them anymore

I don't think they would be drastically reduced over time. It takes a certain caliber of criminal to use a handgun. Not necessarily get one, but to use one. Especially when alot of crimes carry much higher penalties when armed with a firearm. If a person is desperate enough to use a handgun in whatever situation they are facing, then I don't think them obtaining one in the first place would be too big of a worry.

Plus, if someone really wants to commit a homicide or something, there are other ways to kill people. Even if handguns became illegal to own, I don't think it would have much influence on the crime rate one way or another.

yea but guarntee that even if there were no handguns people that shouldnt have them will still have them...think of it this way, marijuna is illegal but do people still do it?...People should take pride in the second amendment because its giving you the chance to secure yourself from threats or other incidents concerning danger. For instances, there was a guy at a local wal-mart in new mexico shopping in the food isle one day. He came across a man stapping his girl friend to death in the isle. The guy had a concealed weapons permit and was carrying a handgun in which he saved the girls life. Of course you never hear about these acts of patriotism in our gun-grabbing liberal media though, because they along with many other stuck up liberals, dont care about the good things done in this country. Personally, wouldnt you want to be carrying a gun if you were getting robbed, or would you just let the guy rob you because you didnt take pride in the second amendment. All I am saying is that putting limits or rules on gun control in this country would be unconstitutional, violating the right of the second amendment.

First of all of course there are other ways of killing people, but i would much rather be up against a guy with a bat or knife than a gun.

also how can you say that they are "desperate" to use a handgun. so many deaths are from accidental shootings or shots that didnt hit their intended targets. these kind of deaths would be gone if the people that have access to them now didn't anymore. yes there are still going to be gun deaths for the people that REALLY want them. but as i said thats a smaller number than there is now.

i really cant be wasting more time on this thread but I do want to say that yes my friends, and I do hunt in grizzly territory, and now someone will say, "why dont you use bear spray?" well i do carry that too, but its always good to have two lines of defense in my opinion. there are always a couple bow hunter's during elk season that do get attacked by grizzly bears within a 50 mile radius of my house. I totally disagree with everyone on here that wants to ban handguns because they are easily concealable. concealed carry has been shown in most instances to reduce violent crime in an area. I feel having armed responsible citizens is crucial to the safety of the public.

i will completely agree with your last statement though. I cannot stand the patriot act, it is so unconstitutional, but strict gun control is unconstitutional as well.

Say some one wants to rob a bank with a hand gun. are they more apt to do so when there is a high chance that there is one or two well intentioned citizen customers in the bank as well. for the most part when people are thinking straight guns really just lead to safety. It is only when people lose their right mind that they become dangerous. Thats why laws banning firearms inside places that serve alcohol such as bars and night clubs make sense.

Sure you can say that people can go crazy with out being in a bar but then again if more people carry fire arms there is a chance that they can be subdued by some one else before to much shit happens.

As for grizzly's a 9mm won't do shit a 45 might, but usually it will only make it angry. And it will then have more of a reason to rip you to shreds then just for the fun of it.

Now a moose it might do some thing to. or a cougar. While most cougers are easily scared there are some that will fight you if all you do is shout at it. place a 45 in it's side and it will run away if it is still moving. Also if you antecedently get between a black/brown bear and her cubs then a hand gun that can take it out might be nice.

basically don't go whining about gun laws there are bigger issues on our hands

If some guy has it planned to rob a bank....... he probably has more things on his mind than one wondering whether or not anyone inside had a gun.
as for hunting you have a rifle.... if you get fucked up by a bear... well you were hunting, it comes with the territory dude, no excuse. especially since its a TINY fraction of the population that hunts around bears.

"Most people don't walk around with guns in Canada and commit robberies."

your right, but what would you do if you had the chance to shoot someone who was in the act of hurting someone you cared about ? i would not blink an eye to subdue them and make sure the act was not carried out.

"Even if this situation did happen, I have a sneaking suspicion they would be punished by the long dick of the law."

what if the "situation" ended up with someone(not the criminal) dieing.. i dont know about you, but i would happily set in prison knowing i saved my sister, mother, ect from death...

rather then them being dead, and the criminal being "punished by the long dick of the law. " i would say my bullet was punishment enough.

hunting yes you would have a rifle for your primary. but say you are fishing on a river in the wilderness and a bear comes out of the woods and is pissed at you for stealing its fishies. a large caliber handgun would be very necessary. if i ever go to alaska i'm shelling out the $1500 for this little bodyguard. s&w 500. 2600 ft/lb of muzzle energy. about 6 or 7 times more than a .45 acp.

although a 8 3/8" barrel is practically cheating at 10 yards. its a cannon.

Depending on the size of the bear you may still be going through your 6 rounds pretty fast and trying to reload.

there was the one grizzly that it took 8 .45 shots before the hunter brought it down. then they found aprox. 2 clips of 9mm in it and two high powered rifle shots in it and the rest of the first hunter.

Unless you are 100% vegan you have Zero moral authority here.

The definition of helplessness is domesticated cattle.

Bred into utter stupidity and without instinct to live in a pen until slaughter in a meat packing plant. Why? So one can spare themselves the discomfort and inconvenience of having to kill their own food. So we can waste it carefree like a cheap mass produced commodity. That is truly unjustifiable.

To hunt & take the life of an animal with your own hand is to understand the cycle of life & the impact of our existence. This animal was wild, free in body and spirit. To take it’s life is to feel the thrill, the grief, sadness and gravity of the situation. It is an authentic human experience. In this we understand that life is sacred, eating meat is an action that one should not take lightly.

This experience is absent in modern life, thus society treats meat with mindless consumption leading to over production, waste, pollution, etc.

IMO: Shallow and empty people who hunt and waste, do not use/donate the meat they harvest are despicable, but no more so than the average wasteful consumer.

CEO's may be people, shit people, but corporations most certainly are not. they are pieces of paper or made up authorities. Give them no respect.

Not all CEOs. Look at guys like Gerard Arpey, CEO of American Airlines, who saw that his company and employees were having a hard time and refused to accept the bonuses the board of directors approved for him.

Good thing corporations have nothing to do with skiing.

Oh wait.

Shit.

Uh....

Corporations are evil man! It's just a ploy by "the man" to keep you down! The spiked boot of capitalism is designed to confuse you and enslave you into eternal slavery through conformity. CEO's are just rich aristocracy that sit in their offices all day calculating evil formulas of how to dominate the world. Fight the power man!

...seriously though. You guys are toolbas.

What the fuck? I'm sure some CEO's are douchebags but seriously? All CEO's are shit people? Come the fuck on.

To go along with your point, I read this story in the NY Times or something like that a couple of years ago. A young man, about 25 years old or so became the CEO of a profitable company. The former CEO was making multiple millions of dollars a year. On his first day starting there, his secretary came up to him and asked him what he wanted his salary to be, he is the CEO after all and he can make however much he wants. He told his secretary he wanted $500,000 a year. She was surprised and said how little money that was for a CEO. He said he wanted 500k, and to take the difference from the previous CEO's yearly salary and put it towards funding the companies R&D. I was pretty impressed with the CEO at least.

This thread has decomposed into childish jiberish. Its not about corperations or CEO's, we were talking about firearms. It is funny to see you guys argue. These posts go from one stupid comment to the next, so here is mine. I don't believe you are all so naive as to believe that corperate America is trying to destroy you. Yes, they do bad stuff...tear. However, all of us enjoy the benefits of living in the wealthiest country in the world, from skiing to religious freedom and dictating policy for other weaker countries so they can help us be more powerful by joining us in our struggle for wealth. Without corperations we would not have most of the products and services which allow us to be who we are. Go ahead and chastise me as a bully American, but I like it here, and I like to shoot handguns for fun.

True, and I was writing when you posted your last comment, which I do not include in the childish jiberish. I actually enjoy reading your posts most of the time.
